giving the borg a taste of their own medicine

I snagged the omega torp today... apparently its one of the few things in the t4 rep rewards that's working properly. Anyway, I gotta say, this torpedo launcher is awesome.

Firstly, you get 5 charges that you can fire in rapid succession (minus global cool down, course) but they're all lil mini vger torpedo balls, not the standard green plasma torp. With a high yield shot comes the big slow moving vger ball, complete with the sound effect as from the unimatrix ships.

The thing i'm loving, in addition to the pew pewness of this launcher, is the high yield shots do dissolve their targets. A quick run of ISE saw spheres just vanishing into nothingness, even the cubes went through the animation, though they still asploded as well so... hrm on that

but still, credit where credit is due. This is truly a fun weapon to have, and its practical! It's got some pretty high dps on it, andcoupled with projectile doffs, the thing recharges fairly quickly so a single launcher up front with this can fire fairly often.

Do proj. weapon doffs recharge the "ammo" when they proc, or just allow it to refire more quickly?

it recharges the ammo which is where it gets its firing rate from, but its not a slow recharge.

    Nice.

Follow up, does a multi-proc (IE more than one proj officer proccing on a single torpedo shot) regen multiple "ammo" units?

honestly, I haven't paid that much attention to it, all I know is when the counter reads 1, then a few seconds later when I glance at it, its back up to 4, its gotta be charging pretty fast.

    *edit

just for reference, im running a green blue and purple projectile doff so, I really donno exactly how much they're affecting it. I'll get around to testing it in detail at some point, I just know at this point, its destroying stuff like there is no tomorrow and has one helluva plasma burn. Granted, its still not like the magical 1 shot torpedos but still, its nawty.

I read the title of this post and for a second I thought maybe we were assimilating the Borg into Americans....

I will let you all assume what properties come with that. (wink)
No, I am not who you think I am. I am someone different. I am instead a banana.

Can the small torpedos be shot down?

Dammit, I guess I'm going to switch from quantums to Omega fore and Hyper-Plasma aft if that's possible.

Spiffy. Hows it work with Spread?

From what I remember bort (or possibly flakes, don't remember off the top of my head) saying it would function as a volley of smaller projectiles (basically the same way a generic plasma torp functions with Spread).

Have not tested it myself yet, but from the text it looks like the embassy science consoles with +X% plasma damage would probably work as well.

How much is this thing costing though? I am getting very close to reaching tier IV, but want to know if I need to catch up on anything I may be short on for it. I have been lusting after this weapon for a long time! My most wanted of all time!

Same as the Cutting Beam. 500 Omega Marks and 15,000 dilithium.

Wow, that's a bargain, I was expecting at least 30k dil or even 60k. Excellent, I was afraid I was going to be short!

Me too actually. I'll reach tier 4 later this week, so I'll certainly pick that up for sure.

I am basing the cost of the Omega Torpedo Launcher on the cost of the Cutting Beam and Assimilated Console. There is the possibility that it will cost more, but since all sets that we have seen have the same Marks and dilithium cost, then it is highly unlikely.

no, that's right. I think there was also some commodity cost in there as well but it wasn't much if any. I was unlocking other things at the time as well so can't really remember, but ya, 15k dil and 500 marks for sure though.
