Let me begin with I?m really enjoying the Winter event. So much so my personal dilithium accumulation has fallen way off average. Not a complaint mind you, just an indication how much time I?m enjoying spending with Q and Frosty.
The Winter event?s new Epohh pets and appreciation Test server Tribble reward is what has me posting today. I like them ? a lot ? and I?m kind of a hoarder (I prefer the term Collector). I find myself carrying upwards of 3 pets and 5 or more tribbles at any given time. Yes, this is good news for profitability as it must be encouraging me to buy more inventory and bank slots. And I have ? but ?
I?m hoping you will consider making a non-combat pet and Tribble system change at some (near) point in the future. Like other MMOs, I?d like to see Cryptic pull the pets and tribbles out of inventory and place them on a new character tab (maybe entitled ?Collectables,? ?Tribbles and Pets,? ????.?
I believe this will clean up the inventory management process, especially for new players (something we all want to see growing) as well and simply make the experience of seeing all your toys gathered together more pleasurable and manageable. I?m not recommending any change to the Power tab or process. You?d still pull Powers from the tool and drag to your toolbar. But the fact we could have one unified Pets character tab would also be coded so all a players pets are always available in the Power Tab list. No further need to swap inventory to get the Pet you want available.
I appreciate this ask does little for your bottom line. Frankly it may hurt it as players may not see the need as soon to purchase additional inventory slots. I also appreciate players might suggest simply allowing for Pets/Tribbles to be activated from the Bank (as Ship minor, major, critical heals work), and that could work too. Still ? I like prefer the way MMOs (like WoW, sry) eventually chose to place mounts and pets on their own character ?inventory? tab and think a similar system would benefit STO. Especially in light of the potential number of pets and tribbles any character can have is really starting to get up there in number.
That?s my ask for now. Thanks for reading. Thank for considering.
/Signed. I'd like some bank space back please. Allowing us to add pets and tribbles to an extra tab on our character sheet or inventory would free up at least 15 spots in my bank - Epohhs, Gekli, Shuttles, Tribbles, Horta... The list goes on.
OP, WoW originally had the same system STO does now. Mounts and pets had to be kept in your bags or bank. When they changed it, the vast majority of the player base appreciated it.
... one quick self promoting "bump," then will allow this to fade into the background with the hope the monitors have captured this and will add to the suggestion box
With all the Epohhs (between the winter event and Romulan reputation, 14 different types with with 3 or 4 tiers each for a 48 variations total (when you put it like that, it seems like a waste of dev time, doesn't it?)) that seems like a good idea, but a pet inventory like WoW's, destroying the original items, would probably clash with the trade-in for marks element of the non winter event Epohhs.
The best choice would be a pet inventory which functions just as regular inventory does (except you cannot put anything else in there), so you would be able to take pets out and put them back in your regular inventory, for whatever use you have for them there.
I would like this too. I'm starting to get a collection of winter Epohhs on a character or 2 while trying to get a specific special Epohh I really want and they take up bank/inventory space. I prefer to keep them, though I would like a trade in for duplicate Epohhs (maybe the GPL conversion unit?) because I only want 1 of each type I get, but there's another thread for that. I was lucky to get a critical on 1 character on the first try and got the exact Epohh I wanted right away and I haven't been getting any more for him since I got what I wanted but other toons are getting Epohhs I don't want but I do want to keep for variety, and because I LOVE pets. (Yes I'm that type of player that likes useless stuff like extra costumes and non-combative pets.)
Can't we just take a leaf from TOR's book, and have a separate tab exclusively for quest stuff and pets. Random mission stuff is a much bigger issue for me than pets.
Nukara gives you: Science Reports, Technology Reports, Shutdown Codes, and the crystal things you have to mine.
Defera gives you: the 3 crafting materials, the 4 items to help the partially assimilated Deferi, Cortical Arrays, and the explosives.
Mol'Rihan gives you: Epohh tags, Radiation reports, insect repellant, 3 rock types, Water samples, 3 report types, plant samples, and artifacts.
That's 25 items, not including any I've forgotten, and also excluding pets.
ETA: Completely forgot the Wonderland, so that's another 6 crafting-y items, plus the Q photos and Winter Epohh tags.

Frankly I agree fully with your broader recommendation. Now we can only hope Cryptic agrees too and sees fit to make this a feature to be included no later than Season 8.

Would love to see this implemented
Cheers!
