They were removed because they [Borg] modifier did not worked in some cases and because many Borg enemies were not even classified as such.
Also because the new Reputation ability does the same as those [Borg] weapons (and lets hope it actually WORKS this time, not we can tell since nobody could even test it)
In short, people that run around in full Borg weapons were pretty much running around with sub-standard ship weapons, the only thing good about then was they were free, I am now laughing about people saying the Quads sucked in STF and they were in fact outperforming the so called "superior" [Borg] weapons.
I do not know of a single person that set a space stf record that was not using borg flagged weapons.
Pugs R Us fleet completed a 5 man cure space elite optional run in 3:42 seconds and hold the record for fastest optional run on CSE. They used borg flag weapons and good luck beating their record if you do not.
And for those that do not believe that anybody could knock down an opt win in 3:42 for CSE - well they posted the run on Youtube. I think they still have their 2 man cse win posted up for others to watch.
Free Borg flag weapons were great for players. Before they arrived rare mk xii blue space weapons were selling for 5 million each on the exchange. Once mk xii purples arrived for free the price catered and even casual players could afford good gear if not free gear.
Just so much to hate about the removal of salvage and loot drops from stfs. There is going to be a re-emergence of price inflation back into the game and we will see setbacks to season 4 pricing on the exchange.
If the Borg flags were not working then just maybe Cryptic could have fixed it rather than nerfing away the weapons forever.

That's all well and good, but perhaps you could point me to somewhere in-game that isn't the Exchange or a Fleet Starbase where I can buy some purple Mk XII weapons?

I think the point is, once you get full Omega Rep, you won't *need* those purple anti-borg weapons because you'll have any/all of the skills those anti-borg things could do, but as passives.
Which, if that's the case, I actually like *better*.

Would those passives stack with a [Borg] modifier on our weapons, making ships with those weapons amazing Borg-killers?

Which, if that's the case, I actually like *better*.
And the point you're missing is *what* weapons are you going to use with that mod? Currently the only non-Fleet weapons available to purchase with Dilithium or craft are Mk XI.
If you were to level up a brand new alt now, your only end-game weapon options are either Mk XI's, extortionately-priced Mk XII's off the Exchange (which will only increase in price since STFs no longer drop them) or Fleet Weapons (= lots of Fleet Credits + Dilithium).
I don't consider the taking away of the [Borg] Mk XII's *better* (even if they were effectively blues outside of Borg content) since there's no reasonable alternative in place.
The question is, where can be purchase Mark XII very rare weapons now, other than the exchange and fleet bases? There needs to be a store with Mark XII stuff, or add Mark XII weapons to the dilithium store. We need to be able to purchase Mark XII very rare ship and ground weapons. I'm still wondering why the dilithium store only goes up to 11, it needs to have Mark 12 stuff.

Sadly Mk XII are very rare loot, I understand your point but the old [Borg] weapons were pretty much just 2 proc weapons with a proc that may or may not even work.
And the 'working' procs were [Acc] and [CrtH] - good procs to have. Even the 'broken' [Borg] proc works against specific Borg NPCs (cubes, spheres, probes) - heck, the proc was 100% effective on Torpedos against those enemies.
A very rare Mk XI would be equal to those old [Borg] weapon since they were nothing but glorified Blues.
Maybe if it were [Acc] [CrtH] [Dmg] but since the Borg weapons are Mk XII's without the [Dmg] mod they'd be effectively weaker (I won't get into the whole [Acc]x3 debate here). Also, for things like Anti-Protons, Phasers and Disruptors, those Mk XI very-rare aren't cheap and the Dilithium store sells some very poor variants that cost 22,000 Dilithium a piece.
You rather have a Blue Mk XII? besides they were not guaranteed either as you could only get those Mk XII [Borg] by Proto Salvage that was a random drop, the only ones you "work" for were the Mk XI [Borg] since they could be brought by EDC, meaning they were actually Blue MK. XI weapons and as you said, you can get those easier be it by drops, crafting and the Dilithium Store.
I'd rather have Blue Mk XII's freely available than no Mk XII's available. And before the Omega conversion I had around 40 Proto Salvage - that stuff dropped like rain.
All I'm saying is that the Borg weapons worked fine for STFs, they were better than most Mk XI gear and more readily available (and much cheaper) than Exchange Mk XII's or Fleet weapons - and now they're gone - and the alternatives are either weaker or far more expensive.
I'd rather have Blue Mk XII's freely available than no Mk XII's available.
Same here. With FAs only dropping Mk XI loot and Fleet Advancement system still hating small fleets, the average player lost ANY chance of getting MK XII weapons.
Of course, now we have Romulan Mk XII plasma weapons. But plasma will not work in STFs like Infected Space. You down your generator to 10% and the plasma DoT kills it. Failed optional is failed.
Bottom line is, they should have fixed [Borg] proc instead of removing the weapons all together.
You do realize that in order to unlock the Omeg reputation you need to defeat the Borg on Elite several times. Which is a huge PAIN IN THE TRIBBLE without Anti-Borg weapons. So in order to get the thing you need, you need to defeat the thing that you need the first thing for. Can someone tell me the logic in this? If you have already beaten the STFs, then what the **** do you need the special weapons for. If you can't beat the STFs without the special weapons, you are ****ed. Who designed this?
You don't need anti-Borg weapons to handle Elite STFs. Disruptors are better, due to their stacking damage resistance debuff which benefits the entire team.

You don't MKXII Borg Weapons for Elite STF. White XI are good enough. You won't break any DPS records and your error margin is much lower but is doable.
Besides you can get cheap MKXI purple weapons from the exchange OR gather them in den Fleet actions like Minefield, Starbase 24 etc.

Let's be fair here - this is how 90% of games work. You kill [x] to get gear that allows you to better kill [x].
1) Question: My (main) toon already has all Mk XII [Borg] stuff from before Season 6. Are you guys saying it doesn't actually work anymore (that my Mk XII Elite gear is better)?
2) As for wanting a "free" store for a reliable source of MK XII gear, forget about it.
Cryptic has said they want to make "very rare" stuff actually be "very rare" (or at least make it less common). They also want to make money.
You'll now only ever find "elite" gear "locked" behind grind-barriers such as the Reputation or Fleet systems or in the Pay-to-Win Z-Store.
That's Star Trek Online: Free-to-Play. You're welcome.
3) As for the Catch-22 point, that you need to do the missions to get the Elite gear, but you need the Elite gear to do the missions... Well you really don't. You can complete STFs without the gear (though it may be harder). And the point of continuing the STFs once you get the gear is that loot can then be used as a dilithium source.
You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.

Based on this post, I'd say they never actually worked right. I can't find their post, but a member of my fleet parsed it out and found that the [Borg] modifier added about 7.5 DPS to a weapon when it did work. That's not exactly earth-shattering.

Wow. I didn't even know that about the [Borg] Tags... And thanks for the infor... I recently bought Mk XII "Elite Fleet" weapons for "every day" use, but switching back to the Mk XII [Borg] stuff when running STFs. Since that isn't even working now... I'm kinda confused.... Maybe it's time to vendor-cycle it? Your thoughts please?
That "Black Friday Sale Advanced Escort of Winning" build is pretty cool. If 3k is supposed to be the "basic" and his 5k is considered "good"... I wonder what kind of DPS my ship is putting out... Do you know what "parser" he's using to get this picture, he posted?
Also, do you know, does the [Borg] tag also not work for ground or is it good there?

No the borg space 1000 dmg proc still works, I get it all the time when running STF's.
The complaint with the Borg Space Weapons is that not all Borg ships were being affected by the Borg modifiers. Probes, Spheres, and Cubes had the Borg modifier working fine, but other Borg ships weren't being affected by it. So if you run Infected Space all the time, then it is not a concern, but if you do Cure Space, then it won't work that well.
When we switched to F2P, we were told that the "best" weapons in the game (Purple MK XII) would only be available via elite STFs.
I guess Cryptic decided that, now that F2P has been around for a while, they no longer need to stand by that statement.
I only wish I had known about the switch. I would have gotten a few more purple weapons and traded the rest in for dilithium.
There will always be better gear at some point in the future. Assuming that there won't be or that you'll keep your gear for a year or so is a mistake on your part. When they raise the level cap probably in two or three seasons from now, I am sure Mk XIV will be the new hotness. I just wish there was a way to recoup something from them except for low amounts of EC.
That is just how it works. I know that for most people this is their first MMO and I am here for Trek not another MMO, but it's always like that. Every new type push of end game content brings more new gear to get.
Can't wait to see everyone's reaction if Tier 5 ships ever becomes completely obsolete... at least they give you a discount for some Tier 5.5 ships.

Well, [Borg] sort of works. Sometimes. It's just that it doesn't work all of the time, and when it does work, it's in line with other weapon procs- a relatively weak effect overall. They're not bad weapons, and you put a lot of effort into getting them, so... maybe phase them out over time as better stuff comes along.

The "3k DPS" figure is from a pretty simple calculation of the amount of hit points everything that needs to die in a STF has, vs. the time limit for getting the optional. So we figure 3k as a floor figure for everyone in the team.
Also, do you know, does the [Borg] tag also not work for ground or is it good there?
AFAIK the [Borg] mod on ground weapons was just a flat kinetic damage boost against Borg, and the Anti-Borg weapons still available through the Omega Rep system are unchanged. That's simple enough that even Cryptic couldn't TRIBBLE it up.
There are Mk12 purple space weapons in the Romulan rep tree, tier 4.
EDIT: Bummer, looks like there aren't any space weapons at all in the omega rep, except for the set pieces.
The Romulan weapons are Plasma-Disruptor hybrids, too. Plasma damage, both procs, available in [acc]x2 form. They're pretty nice, if you're into that sort of thing.
I think (or hope) Cryptic plans to use future reputation systems to make a wide variety of such weapons available.

I could have sworn I saw space weapons listed before, but checking it now, all I see are the cutting beam array and the Omega torpedo launcher.
Man, am I glad I managed to fill out all my Mk XII anti-borg weapons before S7...
