that star trek feel

rgrgeomrgrgeom Member Posts: 83 Arc User
i love this game and have played since beta. i have to say though it doesnt have that star trek feel to it. there are many ideas i would love to happen but i know the never will so i will suggest a small change. please change some of the sounds. when i hit certain power such as abandon ship or evasive manoeuvres i would like to hear someone give or talk about the command. similarly just before you explode into nothingness it would be nice to hear someone say something like the "warp cores going critical" or even "structural integrity failing". Those wee nice catch phrases that give you the warm star trek feel. another good example would be brace for impact. You hit the button and someone says "All hands brace for impact" or even simply "brace for impact". Of course the key to it is picking the powers that arent used overly. You dont abandon ship too often (i hope) and similarly brace for impact isn't over used. You really couldn't do something like "firing phasers" every time you fire phasers or it would get very boring and repetitive. Hope the devs pick this up and make a comment or take it on board. if not then what about some sort of external plugin or dare i say it a mod of some sort. anyway love to hear some feedback. i know this has been discussed before and there is a youtube video (not mine) showing what possible sounds could be in the game.

Tie this with Bridge Officers. Just as you can set their stance, you could set their voice pack (as in Baldur's Gate). That voice is what you'd hear from the various positions as you fight (relevant to the powers/systems being used).
    Leave nerfing to the professionals.

    great idea!

Would be nice to have some more trek feel to it. Maybe give them a few different ways to say each phrase too

    Two Problems...

    1) Cryptic will have to pay someone to do the voice overs. Then pay someone to encode this into the game across the powers.

    2) As for the Bridge officers and my sounds, they would be different from other people's crews. For example, my Ops officer is a young human Male, so having a saultry female voice would ruin it for me. Others might have Vulcan crew, whose deadpan aflection would seem inappropriate for other races, but a standard voice would be deemed highly inappropriate for others.

You also added bits of "humanisms" in your dialog options, such as "We'll have her fixed up in no time." My Andorian Bridge officer who has not spent much time with humans would sound awkward saying that.

That being said, in order to pull this off, Cryptic would have to add another layer of customization to Boffs by adding a personality/VO options. While it could still be done, it would be a major season update and lots of bugs before this would be pulled off.

glad to hear such positive feedback to the thread. some nice ramping up music would be pritty cool as well but to be honest i would be happy with the boffs just talking

TBH, with how often I'm in and out of space dock this would be like playing epic music when you pull out of your driveway in the morning. It's just another day at work, so to speak :P

For undocking, it should be a proc, just like the random Enterprise-F encounters. Happens every once in a while, not every single time.

The game's sound directory has literally hundreds of voiceover files in different accents already done for Boffs and NPCs, but they were disabled before launch due to bugs. Hopefully the devs will take another look at them and find a way to hook them back up into the game and make them work properly.

Interesting to note that both Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto recorded generic NPC voiceovers for the game in addition to what we've heard from them already. A player could make his or her own Spock Boff. :D

how awesome would it be if when for example the enterprise turns up someone on your ship says "rank another ships coming in, its the enterprise!" similar to the start of first contact. perhaps some theme music when your playing an STF or certain missions. I think the fact is it can be made to work one way or another it just needs worked on. Will cryptic do it, to be honest not likely but maybe with enough backing from the community or a stray dev looking at the thread just maybe. this may be possible with some sort of soundboard plugged into the game somehow but to be honest again its slim because we don't have a massive community in that way

sweet. thing is remember its cryptic. they don't ever put anything that would actually be of help or fun... no offense to cryptic
The Emperor isn't please with Cryptic apparent lack of progress for the Empire. Lord Vader is on his way

I really like this idea. Definitely something worth the devs revisiting.

The customizable bridge/DOFF voice packs is the selling point IMO (literally) - the company isn't going to pay people to develop content that has no moneymaking potential at all but by adding new voice packs down the line for Zen they will be able to build the P2P on top of the F2P as they have with other areas of the game such as duty officers.

And as long as people are so eager to spent money for basic features a game should ship with we're in for a very short ride.

Maybe we could have Nero scream "Fire everything!" when we click the fire everything button lol.

While this would be fun to a certain extent it would take valuable time away from developers who need to spend that time fixing bugs.
