Insane antiproton damage with "unknown ability".

Somebody please explain this to me:

"[Player Name] deals 22229 (22146) Antiproton Damage to you with an unknown ability."

Anyone else seen this before? Is it a bug? Or is it... something else? (IYKWIM)

I'd like a logical, rational, reasonable explanation. Please.

Thank you.

unknown entity can simply be a lag induced error in generating the logfile. And that damage form a AP beam overload.

Roger on lag error. However, it was a BoP with all cannons; I was cooked in half a second.

    Doesn't add up.

Found this guy, which might also explain the "Unknown ability" entry. Maybe there was so much spam the beam overload didn't render (or you didn't see it).

I ran into a certain italian team who used that weaponery and had somewhat similar "errors".

Could it have been a Bio-Neural Warhead? I think they deal Antiproton damage...

Interesting, but log said AP, not Chroniton. What gives?

Also, it was a Capture and Hold match. I was, well, holding one of the outposts by myself, guy uncloaked (alone) from my 2 o'clock and I -with max shields and hull- went poof before I had time to react. There was no one else around and no spam involved of any kind, so I had a good look (and hear) at the aggro: it was cannons.

Please bear with me. I have a fairly decent build, and while I'm not by any means invincible -not by a long shot- I can now put up a good fight for at least a minute before getting whacked. I'm just trying to understand what happened.

    More theories, please. :)

Fact is it can only be beam overload as i see it and then 22k isn't even that much. He probably had 3 cannons and 1 DBB.
    Noone.

It does AP damage with a Chroniton proc.

Have you asked you enemy what build he used? Might be the simplest way to find out what happened.
Also the chroniton dual beam array does antiproton dmg but the beams have a blue color. Now if you are sure there were no beams involved that doesn't help.

That number is too high for a DHC crit and I can't think of any special consoles/powers that do ap dmg the moment but I will give it some thought.

Fyi, the AP damage it from it's energy attack, the warhead deals kinetic via Tricobalt.

Gotcha, thx. Read specs thoroughly right after posting. My bad.

Tried sending a tell but system said "Cannot send a tell to a non-friend with a newly created account". Beats me, I've been in this game since S5 (F2P). And I didn't want to ask in zone chat, not in the middle of the match.

Anyway, thank you all. Keep 'em coming.

Chroniton Beam is Anti-Proton damage with the Chroniton Torpedo proc. It very well likely was a Beam Overload III from an Chroniton dual Beam Array. The damage is well within the range of my Tac Captai in an Escort uding Dual Beam and BO3.

The BioNueral deals Tricobalt damage and only has AntiProton damage for its onboard defense array.

it could also be Iso charge. i've seen it hit before saying "unknown ability". BOPs love using iso because of the extra damage it helps put out on an alpha strike. and it can also hit between 20-50k+ damage sometimes.

An ISO WOULD make sense here-I didn't know you could equip it on a non-cruiser.

You can. But it would show up as electrical damage.

But it used the antiproton mag regulator as the weapons console according to that STO wiki.

I think, like some of the borg, it is anitproton under a chroniton skin.

    Maybe I should not think.

Couple of things to know. What was your health when it started? How far away was this BOP? And who else was involved? From full health no one will be killing you with just cannons in a half second. I'm sure you said that for effect, but still it would take five to ten seconds to do. And as someone already noted, that damage figure seems a bit high for cannons.

But if you really were destroyed in what looked like a half second to you, BO3 would do it. You may not have even seen the beam. It can happy VERY fast.

It is nice you keep logs that is a good place to start. Get fraps or some other video capture method and take some footage of yourself. It can be VERY helpful in aiding your memory (and your eyes) when reviewing logs!

Some ships that exploded very quickly. At TIMES. Not always. Still fun to watch. I reccomend skipping right to the end and watching the carrier last 3 seconds. Save yourself a bunch of time!

Yep, nothing better than sneak-attacking a hapless Feddie with BO2/BO3 and HY3 quantum torps. When it works, it's an amazing sight to behold :P

Yupp, nothing better than wacking helpless klinks with FAW and PSW chaining. When it works, which was usually always, its an amazing sight to behold!

Its all true. Most of my targets, if they aren't profoundly handicapped, are usually eating dinner, or the dogs are barking, or Klingons are landing on Uranus, or some other magical thing is happening to prevent them from realizing they are in a PVP match.

Really. Feels bad. Wake up and fight back so I don't have to spend my nights cutting myself.

What I dont get, unless for the pure entertainment value, is why people are bragging or even saying how great they are when they rush in with e.g BO3+HY3 to smack a ship dead. I mean, its not a big feat to go in cloacked when the victim is already being attacked by 2-3 other ships+pets and then proceed to brag in chat after the kill. Its simply just zerging, and zerging aint skill. And doing this over and over is not helping said player evolve, on the contrary its making said player way too easy to predict.

Sure ive been a victim to it a gazillion times before, and meh like I care it happens. Im too old and too immune to the taunts to even bother. I just pity them who do it constantly.

Anyone can do it, heck even my 7 year old pupils in the 1st grade can do it.

What? I thought doing an alpha on an overloaded target or a fail dilithium farmer was the mark of a great player?

I do love those thissler videos though. I've been there on both ends in my playtime.

I do miss the old FAW, only because it made decloaking so much more riskier when your hull could melt in a short while. :P 5 man FAW cruisers in an arena, and if you could get one kill on them it felt like the greatest thing in a PuG.

Or how about getting hit with a random beam while positioning for an alpha, forcing you to use a movement buff to get closer and taking an option for exit away? :P

Well, for afk`s and farmers, make them burn. Cryptic really needs to do somethig about that.

And yes Thissler actually has entertaining videos, heck im even in one :D

Old FAW was fun as long as it lasted... the new FAW is rather balanced.
