I can understand that you want to slow people down on Duty Officers exchange, but the prices you guys put it at is just stupid. Why pay 5k for Very Rare DoFF when I can buy one for that price and, guess what? It will have what I'm looking for in stats and not be random. Doing this to the players, making the alot of the fleet projects cost dilithium, now the embassy as well. For most avg players like myself, this is nuts for the cost. We only have a 8k dilithium refinement limit per day. I don't have countless time on my hands to have 3 to 5 toons to farm dilithium all day long or the money to keep spending on Zen. Even at 500 dilithium per Very Rare DoFF, a player could maybe get a max 16 per day. Thats if they had the 80 Rare DoFF to pull it off. With the prices now, for those 16 Very Rare DoFF... That's 80,000 dilithium at farming 10 days of max.

So ... why not just buy one?
Since you can dismiss DOffs for Dilithium, AND exchanging some for one is essentially dismissing the unwanted ones anyway, then dissmiss what you don;t want and get Dilithium, then go buy the DOff with the stats you want at Cryptics price.
To me, you will actually GAIN Dilithium from the above equation.

That's besides the point. You can't always buy one exactly how you want anyway.
The prices are excessive. With all the exchanging (White-Green-Blue-Purple) it works out at around 30k in Dilithium just for a Purple. A Purple that might be a Chef or Bartender no less. :rolleyes:
The doff grinder is EXTREMELY overpriced for something so random. At the price they're charging, we should be able to at least select a category (engineering or civilian or medical).
Cryptic's stated reason for raising the doff exchange price is that the exchange was previously *underpriced* compared to other means of obtaining doffs, but those means are much less random. You can specify a category for fleet doffs; Lt. Ferra shows you exactly what you're buying.

A Very Rare DOff from the store costs 12000 dilithium.
If they wanted to increase prices they should have used that number in factoring in the prices.
I had earlier suggested the prices for these Doff upgrades:
Common->Uncommon: 70 faction/100 race specific
Uncommon->Rare: 400 faction/500 race specific
Rare->Very Rare: 800 faction/1000 race specific
Also the General Recruitment packs need to be cut to 500 dilithium.
All in all, this makes grinding a Rare DOff to be around 3000 dilithium, half the cost of a Rare DOff in the store, assuming you did not use the General Recruitment Packs. Now if you really wanted to grind for that Very Rare, it will likely cost you 16000 dilithium compared to the Store's 12000. You could increase the Store's dilithium prices to 20000 to make grinding worthwhile, or you could leave it, most of us stick with Rare DOffs especially the unique ones and would only grind 5 rares to a very rare if he/she really needed it.
I see the need to try to make people buy the DOff packs. But at 200 Zen (which at todays exchange prices is at 29000), it's not really a worthwhile buy, at its worst case, it is really worth 8000 dilithium (assuming you get 2 uncommons and a rare, with 4 commons). If you REALLY want people to go for the Duty Officer Packs, you need to pack more high-value officers in there to make a really tempting buy, or lower the price to 100 Zen. After all, there is a good chance that the commons will be traded off anyway.
Also, consider selling commons in the DOff stores for 100 dilithium apiece. Pain in the butt to look for specific duty officers for fleet missions.
I agree the new prices are steep, its annoying for people who used to DOFF a lot, until you realize how the system could be abused.
It was so easy to just have a bunch of alts and just send all the DOFF to your main who would simply turn it all into Purple with a few clicks (well, it was a ton of clicks, but still)
And its not just the Alts from the same account: you could have several other accounts just for that. All it took was to get the toon to level 8 (which takes about 2 hours or so) and you were golden.
Now, I also agree with the person who was saying that the price should be normalized with the price of a purple DOFF on the the Dil Store, mostly that exchanging it is random.
I agree as well, the prices are way to high, and arbitrarily harm lower level players as they're not able to get that much in the way of DIL early on, and they're the ones who can use the upgrades the most.

Err, all doffs dismiss at a rate of 1 dilithium per dismissal, hardly a feasible rate :P
Why is this stuff so expensive? Seriously? And before telling me I have to traverse the entire cosmos because Cryptic/PWE want me to spend 3 dollars a grind... + all the other stuff... tell me how i can REASONABLY grind 100 DOFFs without having to watch paint dry.
This is a downer, I appreciate PWE/Cryptic adjusting the STFs back to where they said it would be after Season 7 but I don't appreciate the surprise and deception. Let's remove the arrow from the backs of PWE/Cryptic customers and find some sort of middle-ground where free players don't have to be walled in by changes like these.
I've paid plenty of Cash for things in this game I otherwise wouldn't have done except I like Star Trek and I wanted to support the game not contribute to it's detriment. I want the option of being able to get something that's slightly better but not be stone-walled from being able to relax my wallet a bit.
Dilithium costs are up because of equipment, Starbases, Embassies and the Rep system. Asides from the kind move of PWE/Cryptic to adjust the game based on feed back; still see a lot that can be improved.
The question even for myself still remains, where can I park my rear end; and grind doffs as effective as the previous free method without having to pull out my wallet?
AHA - my point of view rested on the idea you could choose the DOff you wanted as posited by the OP.
So, seeing that part of the orginal argument fall aprat, so does my reply
My Mistake, I misread.
You Win!

I'm surprised they (the developers) haven't addressed this yet. They've completely ignored any mention of the duty officer system changes. It's almost as if they don't care. :rolleyes:
