Steamrunner for non-Steam Players?

red01999red01999 Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Does anyone know how to get the Steamrunner class while it's still for sale with Steam if we don't have a Steam account? Specifically I have never even touched Steam, and my account was converted from Cryptic to PWE. I'm not too keen about switching to Steam (and would rather avoid it if possible), but I'd still like to purchase the starter pack that brings the Steamrunner.

Also, is it an account-wide unlock? What about the starter pack bonuses (e.g. the BOffs), do we pick that up for every toon as well?

Finally are we able to reclaim both Steamrunners if we ditch them?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum; unfortunately, I don't know what would be more appropriate for it, since it's not in the Z-Store yet.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

It's not switching to Steam. It's still a PWE account.

Steam is a gaming platform. It has many games on it.

There is no cost for signing up for Steam, and you're not switching accounts to Steam if you choose to do so. You simply buy the pack after signing up for Steam, put in the codes on the STO site, and you get your item.

There must be something wrong, because yesterday I purchased the Steamrunner pack while it was still on sale, PayPal says the transaction has completed; steam says I have puchased the pack; I have received a confirmation e-mail of the papal transaction AND I printed the final Steam window with the purchase ID number. But I have not received any code to redeem on the STO site, and no Steam pack is undo the Bundles tab of Cryptic store for me to claim. Any idea what the TRIBBLE up is?? By the I have the retail version, and I also checked the My Account section on the PWE site, but no code was found. Do I have to log in to another version of the STO site to see a listed code so I can click on it and redeem it?

It's not going to email you a code, you have to open up Steam and check the CD keys section of the game in your library. Copy the code there and redeem it on the PWE website. The bundle should unlock then.

The Code can be found in the Steam app/programm itself. Select "library" then "Star Trek Online" and then "CD Key".

Not sure whether you can get the code on the steam website.

EDIT: to backyardserenade , I just saw your post :) I'll look into it when I wake up :) thank you. ill let you know if and when I find it.

It really seems more complicated than it really is. Here is what I did.

    1. Bought the starter pack from steam.
    2. Installed the Steam app on my computer and launched it.
    3. Open store tab and fiind STO and select the play now button.
    4. When it began the install of STO, right click STO and pause download.
    5. Right click STO again and select view cd key and copy.
    6. log onto the STO website and select My Account
    7. Select Redeem Key and enter key.
    8. Log onto the game and claim the pack from the C-Store bundles tab.

You can then uninstall Steam from your computer afterwards though that is not the point of the promotion.

Yeah you don't actually have to use steam other than the first install, start the download, pause and get the key.
Once you have done that you can uninstall it and never look back if you want.
I am sure there will be other promotions including steam eventually down the line, so it really isn't that much of a hassle to make a free account.

I only really buy games from steam nowadays, other than mmo's of course :D

Seems kind of a waste on a level 50 character....the lower class version of the ship. On the other hand you can load it up with admiral gear and go out fighting just for lulz I can't wait to see what I can do with it, using my engineer. My new tactical liberated Borg - courtesy of a recent lifetime subscription purchase - could make good use of the lower class steamrunner since she is only level 29...

Keep in mind, it is the Steam Starter Pack. That is why the low level ship. :)

The Tier 0 version has the special console, that you can also equip on the Tier 5 steamrunner. The rest of the pack is quite neat for running a new toon, though. At least the first couple of hours (or dare I say minutes?).

I copied by 'star trek online' folder into my steam common directory, bought the Steamrunner, got the code, entered it on the website, deleted the copy 'star trek online' folder, and went back to using my game as normal.

I know you can claim the pack on multiple characters, what I haven't had the nerve to try to confirm is if you can reclaim the ship multiple times. The overall pack tells you that it's only able to be claimed once per character, after that it's locked. What I need to do is go to the shipyard and find out if it will let me reclaim the Tier 1 ship after deleting it. That should inform whether we can reclaim the Tier 5 ship as well.

And yes, you want to open both ships. You need to get the Team Fortress console off the Tier 1 version, then move it to the Tier 5.

Either ship can be reclaimed from a shipyard if its deleted. If you discharge this ship, speak to the 'Starship and Shuttle Requisitions' contact to receive another token to re-claim it.

For some reason, I wish I had the Steamrunner, despite the fact that I don't -need- it. But this desire to collect ships (if that's what it is) will remain unfed due to the emptiness of my Steam wallet. :(/:) (there's nothing that resembles a neutral face, so I mixed two together. :D)

are you clicking on redeem key from the my account page and not using an old outdated link?

Doesn't seem to be an outdated link - heck I just bought the Steamrunner pack today. The product code listed is only 7 digits while the PWE site is looking for a 25 digit code.

here is my advice. don't download steam and don't buy the starter pack. chances are you will not get a redeem code. getting my $12 back from paypal and deleting steam ASAP.
