5k Dilithium for "Rare Duty Officer Reassignment"

runtimeerrorboyruntimeerrorboy Member Posts: 16 Arc User
Charging players 5k dilithium is a monumentally terrible idea. It's absolutely clear the only reason to manipulate the global availability of dilithium is to incentivise players to buy more z-points...

Every player knows there is a direct exchange rate from dilithium to z-points to real money, and the game developers know that a decrease in dilithium available in game will cause more people to spend their real money on z-points...

This is simple supply and demand economics. The developers take our supply of fake money, and our insatiable demand forces us to buy stuff with real money....

If cryptic could stop acting like greedy Ferengi for a single season maybe they'd realize their players will quickly tire of their profit driven schemes -- much like the federation grows weary of the Ferengi...

Season 7 is a loaded with boring time wasting grind missions to obtain what was already obtainable prior to the update. The "Embassy" is an even more boring duplicate of the Starbase, and to be completely honest NOTHING in Season 7 is any good.

You wasted a whole month of work only to BREAK OUR GAME and I just hope your corporate masters are satisfied by next quarter's short term profits because in the long run you practice a strictly profit driven business strategy that will destroy both Star Trek Online and your company...

You probably won't fix this OBVIOUS problem, or re-evaluate the greed that has lead to countless other problems because I'd be surprised if your corporation even acknowledges this complaint rationality.

In the business world profit is part of life, and I will be a cold day in hell before any video game company pledges to make a good game regardless of their ultimate profits.

I wouldn't hold my breath that they are going to change this system. Maybe they might up a few mission in dilithium rewards if more and more people start to complain about this crappy and idiotic system, but even those odds are slim.

Further I totally agree on the embassy being another expensive dumpzone for players and the endless grind that STO has become.

P.s Maybe Crpytic/Perfect world should be renamed to The Ferengi Alliance.

    Agree. Entirely...

I've said it before, I'll say it again: The cost is reasonable if they'd let us pick the exact specialization, or at least the department, of the very rare Doff we'd be getting out of this. As is, it's a 5000 dilithium slot machine that eats your Doffs and spits out bartenders and refugees.

Frankly, that part of the Doff system always has been a disappointment. When they'd first put it in, I was expecting more of a trading card interface, where you're trading your bartender to the ship that just had its Irish XO promoted to captain, and get back something you actually needed in return. Instead I go to Starfleet academy, and they take me to a special building where I get five random graduates crammed in an unmarked crate. This just seems like something we need to have more control over. And unergonomical.

And the less said about the exchange, the better.

If you try the Vulcan, Andorian, or Telerite exchange officers it costs 6k Dilithium!!!!

Upgrading 25 uncommon duty officers to 5 rare and then to 1 very rare now costs 17,500 dilithium... Upgrading from 125 common duty officers to 1 very rare costs 20,000 dilithium....

To turn common duty officers into very rare would require at least 2.5 days of dilithium harvesting... Basically I'm enraged beyond comprehension at this amount of grinding...

It's FUBAR what they did on this, we should all seriously consider finding another game to play.

Star Wars Online just went Free-to-play... People are going to leave. You'll see.

I completely agree w/this. We really never needed to introduce a Dabo table when it comes to Doffs. It's just a dumb idea.

To runtimeerrorboy: I also completely agree, and this is why:

There are 2 (two) major rules in business.

    1) If you have no customers, you have no business.
    2) If you drive away your customers, refer to rule #1.

    It's a very simple concept.

If something doesn't get taken care of from the S7 update, STO WILL TANK.

I do not want this game to tank.

Please do something about the Dil sink. Fix this, please. It isn't even a sink anymore. It's a wormhole.

But guys dont you see this is just to "bring it in line with the pricing of other doffs"

Because thats really fair to drive up the costs for a random purple doff whereas the packs have a chance of multiple uncommons or better.

But hey who wants to bet the next season/dev blog/state of the game will say "Concern 1: Not enough people using the doff grinder."

The prices of duty officers going up is just the most recent example of their intentional dilithium shortages.

It all began with the release of Starbases and the "Special Projects" that cost 200,000k dilithium a piece.

Then they increased the number of contraband required in doff assignment "Turn Over Confiscated Contraband" from 3 to 5, but gave the same reward of 2,000 dilithium. This is a 40% decrease in dilithium.

Special Task Force Missions (STF) prior to Season 7 reward 480 dilithium per mission, and now it rewards 1,000 dilithium after completing 5 Elite STF's. This ALONE is a reduction of 58%!!!

Let's not even get into the problems with the Embassy....

There are MANY examples of increasing dilithium costs, and many examples of dilithium becoming more difficult to earn.

It sickens me because they have done all these irresponsible things to our game on purpose to make more money... I really hope a few of them lose a little sleep.

I doubt anybody will lose any sleep. They will hug their paychecks instead of a pillow.

Once they realize that they sabotaged a gravy train, they'll start losing sleep. It's just too bad that it's going to take time for that sink into their heads.

Yeah, then they will come back when they find out you need to pay for button bars.
