Starbase24, purple mkXI consoles if you win...1440 dilithium guarenteed.

yakumosmithyakumosmith Member Posts: 101 Arc User
As much as I want to rage about the STF's, can't say i'm complaining about Starbase 24.

During play, i've received a purple MKXI console for first and second place and 1440 dilithium regardless of final position. Cool down is 30m.

A nice quick way to get your dilithium needs. As more of the STF'ers are popping along, completion time is around 10-15m.

Shame the market is going to have a slight adjustment with all the high end consoles appearing :)

    I know!

This missions was shockingly well-populated with decent players, for the first time in ages. That part of design intentions succeeded.

Anyone know the similar mission on the KDF side? Not being snippy, mind you, honest question.

Killing the first 50 Klingons used to take ages, now it's a race to find any still alive. People packing torp spread 3 and scatter volley 3 are making short work of things.

I just realised what they have done.

They have not made dilithium that much harder to come by, they have just changed it around. so as you say you can grind out fleet actions instead of grinding stf's, but you cant just do one type of content any more.

so before, people could do stf's and events. they would get dilithium, fleet marks and different endgame gear by just doing the 5 man content over and over.

now they have set it up so players have 4 main objectives. dilithium, omega marks, romulan marks, and fleet marks. the thing is almost none of it overlaps. so if you want romulan marks you do the romulan events or new romulus, then you go do some stf's or defera to get omega, then you go do some fleet events for your starbase, then you go do some fleet actions, exploration, foundry dailiy etc to get your dilithium.

4 types of content to get 4 types of rewards, means people are in game longer.

they are not restricting dilithium, but if you want dilithium and all the other stuff you are going to have to be in game much more often and do a much wider variety of content.

Honestly, considering how dead a lot of that content is, finding new ways to funnel people into it isn't a bad thing.
    Relax.

Which sucks like any other mission with 10000000000000000000 enemies where you need to park your brain and ship and use csv or faw
.Also if you live in Europe and have a non stop lag you will hate that mission even more because 1000000000000000 enemies means the lag of lags.

Yup nicely put and a good analysis. It did seem strange that they were removing easy dilithium (console clicks) but effectively turning on the tap with this mission.

Also agree with Adrianm63, it's not exactly rocket science, not much thinking involved and no concequencies of popping.

Eh cause haters gonna hate... I bet they just gave up on trying to fight the wrath of the forum and probably only care about insightful posts. I sort of figured it out too and was getting so annoyed with all the short sighted doom and gloom threads. They are getting rid of all the hacky ways to get DL and really making it about rewards for specific content. I bet when they looked at their numbers for pre season 7, no one did fleet actions compared to the other content. Pretty good idea as far as I am concerned.

Also I have no idea why so many are Dilithium hungry. I run fleet gear and stf sets and my DL expenditures are minimal and not really recurring... I don't give much DL to the starbase, only when above 300k. Also, It just doesn't pay to spend DL on Zen. As I said in another thread, if you work one hour cleaning toilets for minimum wage of $7.25, say you get $6 or even $5 after taxes... That's 500 to 600 zen for one hour's worth of work. It's impossible to make that much dilithium in one hour (158/1z * 500 = 79000) let alone days and days in STO. While I know some are not as lucky as others when it comes to working and getting paid... it just doesn't make sense to spend time in game for zen.

I do think the Devs have given up a bit on the forums. Usually things get quiet when a new season starts up but every time one shows up it doesn't matter what they post they'll get backlash.

So I figure they have an idea of how things should work and the user base will eventually figure it out too.

I'll do it for you then:

    Starbase 24 is stupid.

Like several other missions that I stopped playing because they were stupid, this is a mission built upon the basic premise of a handful of allied ships taking on roughly every single enemy fleet in the history of the universe. The "strategy", if you want to call it that, is for everybody to sit on the edge of an enormous cloud of hostility and spam Fire At Will, Scatter Volley, and Torp Spread. There's no support. There's no maneuvers. There's no tactics. It's just raw firepower sprayed as fast as possible to create a wall of death as the enemy swarm slowly annihilates itself. It's the space equivalent of Serious Sam.

As time goes on, I can't help noticing that more and more content is about this kind of fake difficulty involving implausibly massive and utterly ludicrous engagements. And when you do get a nice small engagement, you're fighting a boss that uses the most incredibly cheap one-shot kills and un-counterable attacks in order to be "challenging".

    *sigh*

oh so THAT is what they are doing....?

so in 2 Months when i'm done with the STF Reputation System i will stop playing STFs.

Endgame with an END to it?

Yeah that makes perfect sense... NOT!

Same with Rom Rep... once done i see no reason to ever return to Tau Dewa (unless i can turn obsolete Rom Marks into Dilithium somehow, at Tier 5?).

And i already stopped playing Fleet Mark stuff because my Fleet is crazy and doesn't even let me contribute the Stuff that i have.
And i got all the Fleet Items i wanted anyway so what would i need more Fleetcredits for?

And before i go back to playing Fleetactions i will play PvP Arenas all day long!

    Because FLEETACTIONS SUCK!

    - OLD Content is OLD
    - Visuals are horrible, framerate issues, bloom overkill, waiting minutes for certain NPCs to spawn....

    horrible, just horrible.

I am enjoying the starbase 24 again, now that it has the dilithium reward. So does the Gorn minefield. Instead of grinding stfs, ill be grinding these. Now if they can just fix the bug that warps you out as soon as you enter, itll be great!

Fair or big rewards. Pick 1. If it was a fair fight, the match would be over in seconds and it wouldn't be fulfilling either from a combat perspective or even rewards. You want big rewards then the AI gets to cheat. You can't have both. Although, some of the tactics that Cryptic has given to the AI borders on completely unfair.
