Yes yes i know, it's me yet again with a silly question! ;)

What weapon type(s) would you recommend for my Raptor/B'Rel and Penquin?

I have always been a fan 'o disruptors but to be honest i find the sound that my dual heavies make rather...disappointing! And YES i am not at all obsessed with DPS so would like to hear all options!

However i do know that DPS is somewhat important, especially since i am an engineer...and lack some! :D

    Anyone?

I keep hearing cannons that make way more sound compared to my disruptors...

Well, there's already a clear volume difference between Cannons and Heavy Cannons but my guess right now is what you're hearing are Heavy Plasma Cannons.
They've got a very cool and deep sound effect.
    And they're green.;)

For PvE (shooting the computer-generated enemies, etc), it doesn't usually matter what energy type you're using. About the least useful would probably be polaron, as the enemies are already so weak that an energy-draining proc won't make much difference. Same for phaser. . .disabling subsystems doesn't make much difference when the NPC ships are relatively easy to shred. Everything else is quite usable, just pick the one you like the look of and stick with it :)

For PvP, it's a different matter. In high-level PvP, it's usually recommended that you stay away from plasma beams. That's because almost everyone in high-level PvP is running anti-borg shields that reduce plasma damage by 20%. The other types are useful depending on your build and your focus. Anti-proton is especially useful for spike damage, due to the critical-damage bonus it gains. Polarons are nice in conjunction with an energy-draining build (siphons, Tyken's rift, etc). Disruptor's a good standby with it's damage resistance debuff, phaser is useful for catching players offguard with a subsystem disable, tetryon's useful for shield-stripping builds. . .

In the end, all the weapons have the same damage output per level. The only thing that changes is the graphics/sounds and (more importantly) the 'proc', or random secondary effect.
My PvP toon is Krov, of The House of Snoo. Beware of my Hegh'ta of doom.

If your looking for loud cannons, there are four types that stand out. The first is the quad cannons you can get from the cstore. The second is antiproton very loud. The third is plasma cannons. Lastly you can polaron cannons which are decently loud.

This is quite a good thread and please forgive me for asking yet more questions. I will keep this simple.

I too am using a Qin Heavy Raptor (not mirror) currently using X4 Purple Polaron Mk XI Accx3 cannons (FORE) I enjoy PVP very much, with Raptors somewhat shy turn rate is my weapon choice a good 1 for PVP?

What I learned in sto was its not the weapon type that determines a good ship build, its what you build around it. Meaning say I take a full tetryon build and then I use transphasic torpedoes. This to me would be stupid because tetryon is designed to bring the shields down quickly so why use a torpedo built to penetrate something your going to bring down fast anyways.

So polaron takes away from energy level of another ship, so maybe getting a quick reload torpedo would be the best choice for that build. The next thing would be to make sure your using tactical consoles designed for poalron damage. They will do more damage this way over a refire chamber, a refire is good for if your mixing multiple cannon types.

You say your using a raptor so I would think the Jem'hadar set or the Borg set would be the best for your escort. Borg is really easy to get. If your using good gear it will take you about 6 elite space stfs, and 3 normal space stfs. Thats not counting if you win a drop. The Borg one has a very strong regen shield, and if you go that way. I would strongly re command you get it before Tuesday. After Tuesday my guess is its going to be a pain the TRIBBLE to get.

Oh and if you ever decide to go cruiser for pvp read this persons guide. http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=285491 Turrets and non dual cannons do insane things in pvp.

For PVE, just pick whatever you find the most appealing to the senses. The actual difference in damage done is almost negligible. I personally like Tetryon and Polarons.

Polarons work great with the Jem'hadar set, a Plasmonic Leech console, and full points in Flow Capacitors. You'll shut down both the shield and engine of PvE ships when it procs.

Tetryon works great with the (2 piece) omega set. They'll strip off shields in seconds when combined with Tetryon Gliders.

For PVP, stay away from Plasma. Everything else is workable.
