So Cryptic, how long until we get a mobile game for Doffs and Fleet missions?

theultimatextheultimatex Member Posts: 489 Arc User
Since it is highly unlikely to be exploited or game breaking, it just amazes me that something like the Doff missions and the Fleet advancement missions have not been turned into a cell phone game Cryptic could sell as an additional revenue stream at $2.99 a piece. What is the hold up? Also, the option to show off your Captain's log and the status of your made characters should be back on the site already.

What is taking so long on such obvious projects?!

In 3 years they havn't even made a Mac port...

Seriously... Do you really belive that cryptic is gonna make a mobile version?
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Well, since Dan Stahl said in an interview they're already writing it, yeah, it seems likely they're going to continue doing so.

Sorry, forgot there is no Mac version, so I guess I should not hold my breathe? I wonder how much it would cost me to make one of my own and then license it from CBS/PWE.

I swear I feel like one of you has bugged my desk at work lol

We'll have information on the STO Gateway (working title) in an upcoming Season 7 Dev Blog. I will say that, in its initial Beta release, it won't have access to the DOFF system, but it is a goal of ours with it. The initial features are pretty cool, though, and it can only grow from here. I squeed when I first saw it.

    Cheers,

How about a first step: making these forums less annoying to read on an android?

I'd like that prior to my Zen app.

Yes, I am aware that you like to bash everything I say... Wouldn it be easier to just add it to your signature?

Cryptic has said a dozen times that they are writing something... They even said once that they were working on a Mac solution... Nothing happend...

You know... That comment about the Mac port was also from a Cryptic employee...

Or what about the Comment from Stormshade that C-Store prices would go down (most of wich have in fact increased by 30%)...?

Or that comment about borderless sector space...?

Don't get me wrong... I would like to be able to manage my Duty Officers from my android during work, but you can't really blame me for being sceptical...

I missed the Mac port comment. I've never seen any comment that suggested there would ever be one. What did I miss?

Most C-Store prices haven't changed. A few jumped up by 300% or so. A few ships did, yes. And newer items cost more. But the bulk of items did not change.

Now that is truly backwards. You would think that the Doff system would be the premier function of any mobile app, and then any other features would be added later.

I'd just like to say I'm glad to hear it, but I hope its not an app! If its web/mobile-web based so all you need is an internet browser? That'd be perfect. You'd support more people without having to fool around with versions of the mobile OS, device specs, etc. So, someone could be using a $99 Android tablet their well-intentioned family member bought them, a top-end smartphone, a random Windows XP computer, etc., they'd be able to use it :D

Probably the most work, and not everyone likes/uses DOFFs. At the very least, email would be great, seeing friends online, seeing the events calendar, etc., would be broadly useful. I'd love to work with the Exchange online, certainly!

Shows you that their priorities are way different than ours

I too would have thought the DOFF part of it would have been the main focus out of the gate

The doff system is a mini-game that is perfectly adaptable to a mobile app that could synchronize with the game. Does checking your in-game calendar and friends list sound like fun to you? At least doffs would be a cool little pastime we could do while sitting on the couch or lying in bed.

Well as much of the boring click click stuff as possible i would welcome, Doffs especially as there is some click-i-tee-clicking that needs to be done for Doffs and you can advance your toon. Likely more people would do the Doffs if they could with their iphones or low end work computers, heck i would not be typing this if i could be Doff-ing off at work...

the more functionality the happier i will be, but i am hoping for character leveling ability rather than just some silly chat feature with friends as there are so many other ways to do that already, TS, FB, forum messages, steam, etc...

And I agree, but its probably a lot more involved than other, lesser things, and needs more work. As such, to start with, having the in-game calendar and seeing friends would be a good start.

I use the Facebook mobile site on my phone more than I use their dedicated app. i wouldn't say they failed miserably! Its functional, works, and I'd rather see it in that format.

Seriously, once you get into apps, then you have to ask, at a minimum, who will you support and who won't you support? Where's your cut-off point? Will you keep versions of the app behind or try to keep them all the same?

Typical behavior for Cryptic World, though - they have a long track record of proficiency in figuring out what feature the community wants most and then deliberately omitting that feature. Ambassador class, anyone?

Or just releasing it unfinished, only to finish it later, which is exactly what's happening again.....
