Just getting a starbase up and running.

So I've finally managed to (basically single handedly) get my fleet starbase to the point where I can finally go there. :D It's level 0, and has the most basic features. Now I can actually use it, I had a few questions about the starbase. I currently have the 1000 military XP that was required to unlock the base in the first place, am I right in assuming that to begin the upgrade to level 1, I have to get another 9000 XP from the various other starbase missions?

Another thing I spotted was that I'm able to buy consumable Peregrines and Phaser Turrets from the starbase. It says these are one use things, is that one use in a Fleet engagement (like the starbase attack from the PvE queue)? So if I'm fighting around someone else's starbase, I can launch those Peregrines, and then they're done until I buy more?

I know I had some other questions, but they've escaped me for the moment. When I remember them, I'll add them in.

every time you unlock a tier in military, science or engineering you get the ability to make its respective holding.

ie military will be a shipyard. science is the comm array and eng is the fabricator. (the transwarp gate does not count as is a seperate thing)

built the shipyard for example and it gives you 1000 base xp, then you make a tier 1 base.

unlock and build 3 more holdings and you get to build a tier 2.

yes the things you can buy to use are one time use items, and can be used anywhere.

Ah, ok. So I completed the first Military assignment for the 1000XP, and I also have the first Science and Engineering assignments nearly finished (just waiting on enough Fleet Marks). So each of those assignments will produce a new outlying bit of kit for the starbase. Is it generally considered a good idea to split development between all three divisions, or would you recommend concentrating on one area at a time? Bare in mind that currently I'm about the only one of my friends who's able to play right now, so I'm pretty much building this thing myself. XD

yes if you have completed military, then in the fourth slot there should be a construction project for a shipyard. build that then build the tier 1 base after.

you can do it however you wish, but its probably wise to concentrate on 1 type first as best you can, the construct the holding while working on the next tier as son on.

most fleets im in then to work on military first, then eng, the sci, then back to military as people value the shipyards for fleet ships but you may wish to work on getting the space xii weapons first so may wish to work on eng.

just watch the projects requirements. there is often two types. one that needs doffs and one that needs less doffs but dilithium. the all doffs ones can be hard for small fleets.

Yeah, it's a long, hard slog to build a starbase in a small fleet. I've gone ahead and doubled my DOFF capacity so that I can just keep recruiting waves of them to be shunted into the starbase. I get most of my fleet marks from the Investigate Officer Reports mission, so they're coming in a lot faster than they used to. The next military assignment calls for hanger versions of Peregrine Fighters though, I'm not sure where to get those. I tried looking on the Exchange, but all I could find were Klingon fighters and drones of various kinds.

Actually, no. In order to build the Fabricator, Communications Array, or Shipyard, you will need 10,000 xp in the related field first. The starbase upgrade takes 1000 starbase xp, which you earn each time you upgrade one of the outlying structures.

I've built a LOT of my Fleets Starbase so far, they got a bit done before I started working on it and there's been some contributions since but my main currently has a Million Fleet Credits right now.... He's earned more but that's what I have...

In regards to the Peregrine hangers, they are the ones you buy at the ESD Shipyard for EC's, I suggest you clear as much pack space as you can before go buy them as it cuts down on time switching back and forth to the Contribute screen. Some projects will require Photon Torpedo Launchers Mk I, those are from the same place.
Basically these wind up in the same category as Warp coils or Provisions, stuff you just have to buy for EC's and hand over. Speaking of such commodities, I find it's best (cheaper) to get them from one of the cheaper source freighters opposed to getting them off ESD or equivalent SB's (or from the replicator, ouch).

I'm partway thru the Tier 2 shipyard myself and that should open up the Tier 2 SB upgrade Project once finished.

If you have any Fed alt's make sure you keep up on their recruiting missions, also once you complete the Tier 1 SB you gain access to an officer that 'sells' random Common Doff packs containing a single Doff in exchange for FM's so having more slots can help you churn thru these. Once you contribute the ones you need you can then run the others thru the reassign Doff mission's @ the academy, you can then Exchange them back into different new Doff's at the NPC's there. You do lose in Quantity but having another chance at the Doff's you need is worth the loss in quantity and the Dil cost. Do pay attention to which ones are selling good on the exchange though, I tend to only exchange thru the ones that are not going for much as I need the EC's for other items to push the SB along.

Oh, one other way to get FM's, I don't recall if it's available before tier 1 or not. Commendation Reports, there's a console near the Duty Officer that you once you've reached a minimum of 110,000 Commendation XP it allows you to trade 10,000 CXP for 75 FM's. There's a assignment for each CXP category and it on a 8 hour cooldown. If you get a Critical Success you get 100 FM's (I love Critical Successes!).
