So, earlier today in the Vulcan system, I was pm'd and asked politely why I wasn't in a fleet. To which I replied that "I find the random fleet invite requests to be rather cold". To which they replied something to the effect of "have you even seen fleet yet". I responded no. I then beamed down planetside to procede on my merry way.
To be honest, I've been so busy grinding out missions that I've just deleted all incoming requests. Not one of those requests came with a message "hey would you like to join our fleet". I think that if a fleet invite request is preceded by an actual message I'd consider it. I've invested enough time in the game now that I think I could offer something to a fleet.
But there are so many fleets out there to look at and choose from, where does one begin to look?
Theres is like you said alot of fleets out there, alot of individual fleets that look for people just to help their personal starbase out ect And then there are few bigger fleets as well. Most of the "not so good" fleets spam all night/day through zone chat and or act like gold farmers and send messages to you ect. I just tend to put them on ignore and carry on.
The great thing with fleets is that, its fun doing missions and dailies but its an added bonus when you and someone in your fleet do it togeather. Its more enjoyable and also theres making a new friend on top of it all. Now with all the new fleet projects and additions theres alot to get from a fleet. Weapons/armor/ships ect. Some of this stuff is actually really good.
If I didnt have my own fleet for me it would be that Id look for a fleet that was best suited for myself. I personally dont like the big fleets out there because they tend to have drama. They may not say they do... but when you have over 10 people active eventually someone isnt going to agree with whats being done or being said. My own fleet is pretty small, but always active. And Iam really happy for that. We still continue to look for people but we dont go out and hound people or send "cold messages".
In the end if your enjoying the game alone, great, but if you want to share it with few or even more people it may be rewarding for yourself. Iam a pacific time gamer and if you are indeed looken for a home "fleet wise" or just want to play sometime in game give me a hauler.
i tend to ignore most requests straight away due to the cold nature as mentioned above and exactly the same reason, you are a throw away cog piece in a larger machine, so when you serve your purpose despite your ideas in the fleet, you are kicked out and that would be the end of it.
small fleets tend to be better because the fleet leader does not get all ahead of him or herself as overall leader, and the leader can spend time with their fleet mates and get to know them and listen to their ideas, it is a much better environment to be in but of course everyone is different. if the fleet gets bigger the leader has a lot more to deal with and looses contact with his fleetmates through others who are underneath him in the power structure of the fleet.
Fleets are good. Fleets will give you reasons to log into the game more often and enjoy it more. But not all fleets are made equal.
The most important thing is that your fleet mates should be active when you are. You could be in a fleet with some fantastic people but its important you don?t sleep or work while they play.
The next consideration is size. A larger fleet gives you more people to play with but a smaller fleet allows you to get to know them better, and allows you to distinguish yourself more. Ideally you would want a fleet that had 5 or 20 people online when ever you play. With 20 you have the right number for big fleet actions, with 5 you have the right number for smaller group actions. With other numbers people get left out, and you could be that person.
Leadership is also important. A fleet with a good leader can be much more enjoyable than a fleet ruled by committee. In the real world democracy may or may not be the ideal, but in games too many leaders often leads to drama and time spent discussing what to do rather then doing.
Finally a good fleet has good patronage. Now that we have star basses you are going to want to get some of the shiny new toys available to fleets. But to get those your fleet star base needs to eat a LOT of resources. Pumping them with commodities and data samples is simple enough, but valuable doffs and dilithium you may not wish to part with. Worry not though for there are fleets out there with wealthy individuals willing to poor their own resources into those aspects of star base development so you don?t have to.
So how do you find such a fleet? Ignore the recruiters. Play the game, join random groups and play with random people, get to know them, add them to your friend list. It wont be long before one of them invites you to their fleet, and when they do, you will know it has at least one person worth playing with.
But there are so many fleets out there to look at and choose from, where does one begin to look?
Joining a fleet can do many things...
1.) Stop the random join fleet requests
2.) Let you get rid of that excess doff mission CXP for some easy fleet marks.
3.) Let you get some decent stuff with your fleet credits and some dilithium.
I accepted many of those random invites. I hopped around a few fleets (6-8) before I found one I liked. Don't be afraid to join and then leave them if it's not meeting your expectations. Any fleet credits you make stay with you, so no need to worry about leaving them behind if you leave a fleet.
Check the Fleet recruiting window, some will have messages and/or website addresses. I look at the websites the fleets have built. That can give you an idea of how big/active/serious/organized that fleet is.
Our fleet is at the point where fleet projects don't fill up instantly. All the hoarders have run out of materials. I would guess many fleets are at that point too. In the working on tier 4 build phase. So gaining fleet credit should be easy now. Probably alot of fleet looking for new people to help those projects along.
Speaking of which...;)
If you like, you can try out our fleet. We don't do Vent or Teamspeak; just fleet chat channel so Fed and KDF can chat. Occasionally people get a group together for fleet events during the bonus marks time or running elite STFs, but most the time it's just chatting while you solo stuff. Starfleet M.A.C.O.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
There's nothing wrong with large fleets, if they're done *right*. The key is proper management, chain of command, and recruitment policies that focus on quality over quantity.
Good fleet management will listen to the needs/requests of their fleet, and act appropriately, rather than doing what they want because it's 'their fleet'.
Solid chain of command means that you will have the fleet divided into squads which each manage themselves, and tend to form into small 'families' within the larger community of the fleet.
Proper recruitment focuses on getting people into the fleet who do not seem intent on causing trouble, being greedy, etc. It's impossible to be a mind-reader, but when you have a system in place, it tends to weed out a lot of the ones who are there to cause trouble, grief, steal, etc.
I guess what I'm saying is that, the larger the body of people, the more important good management is; when a fleet is properly run, everything else tends to fall into place, and the drama tends to be minimal, and limited to a couple people here or there.
To the OP, I'd check out the recruitment areas of this forum, and also join some group activities in the game; you never know when you'll run across a couple fleeted people who fit your fancy. Good luck in finding a fleet that works for you.
Is this game fair enough about those who have no fleet ?
There's a lot of attractive stuffs to get in fleets... and if people don't want because they just don't want : would they be punished  ?
what do you think about that ?
Extremely Fair.
In all honesty, you do not need to join a fleet to enjoy STO. You don't need to be in a Fleet do do Fleet Events either. You can join in another fleets 20-man raid as a guest.
And Player Starbases, well you have to join to get access to Fleet Starships, but some fleets are actually selling their extra ship provisions now. Same with Fleet Ship and Ground equipment.
As for the Transwarps, you absolutely don't need that, since normal diplomacy Transwarps go to the same location. If not, you got mission transwarps, which is really cheap.

To be honest it seems you're more of the casual type, not suited for hardcore PvP fleets or large fleets in general. This also may exclude you from medium fleets such as the League of Extraordinary Captains which are a hardcore RP Fleet, though they do accept casuals.
My recommendation to you is a small to medium fleet that are mainly casual at play that do once in awhile STF runs.
There is a Fleet that comes to mind if you just want to solo and be casual with the occasional contribution to Fleet projects. Look up TERRAHAWX or PM @scorn. who is their Fleet leader. Its a great and simple fleet that own two other fleets, a reserve -TERRAHAWX- and their KDF counterpart House of Terrahawx.
If those don't do for you, I am sure there are other small to medium fleets that may offer what you're looking for.
For starters try one out, see if you like it, and if you don't; you can always go back to solo mode. There is no shame remaining solo.
The best advice is basically find a fleet that will suit to your needs - bond with members and have fun.
I'm in a fleet mainly for the social aspect of it - people in my fleet make me laugh and we have a good time without the added pressure of structural demands etc... I hate to be obligated to adhere to certain rules and regulations. I am as casual as they come.
BUT - I love grinding STFs, thats my thing - though its not for everyone.
there is no real reason to argue against joining a fleet...but i think you should search for one. Forget random invites...those are mostly (no all of them) idiots and not worthy of your attention.
join a large fleet, those are very active, have nice structures and community. Myself i joined a very large klingon fleet (house of kular) after my old one was left by 90% of the members, due to inactivity.
go to the fleet section of this forum and read through some of the presentational threads there. Those fleets are very active and full or other friendly members. Most offer TS or VENT, which is a must have to play certain team content in the game. Also you can only learn from the chat conversations. They often discuss builds, weapons, DOFFs etc...
I personally never wanted to join a fleet until before Season 6 started and joined one called Gamma Sigma Command and the sister fleet house of gamma Sigma. We are a close knit fleet and do some recruiting normally around ESD. But if you message me or ask about us someone can tell you how to contact us. Unless you have joined another fleet. We are active and do STF;s as well as PVP and Fleet events

I get a random fleet invite. I add a random person to my ignore list. Sure, I could go to social, hit privacy, and turn fleet invites off - but then how would I know who to ignore?
Perhaps it's just a case that I'm from another time. A time where guilds/etc were selective and people were selective about what guilds/etc they joined. You played with folks. If you enjoyed playing with them or they enjoyed playing with you - then tada, then folks would start talking about whether or not there would be a guild invite or a request to join one.
Maybe it would be a case of seeing somebody post something on a forum - seeing they're in a guild/etc - and looking that guild/etc up. Maybe it would be a case of seeing somebody post something on a forum - seeing if they are in a guild/etc or not - and then asking them if they wanted to try out for it.
Selective. Exclusive. Some might see that as a bad thing - but it can help cut down on some of the drama and all the other nonsense. Which is a good thing, no?
No doubt there will also be "starter/helper/tutorial" fleets - where they help folks out, show them the game, and hope that they remember that so they do the same somewhere down the road. Those are awesome...
...but again, they're not going to randomly spam folks with invites. They'll develop a reputation for such and advertise on forums, have their site, etc...
...so nope, I don't fleet. It's not because I'm casual, it's not because of anything like that - although some people appear to suggest that those that do not are somehow anti-hardcore, etc, etc...
...it's because more than likely, I'm just not going to like you and I'll probably point that out - graphically - in an anatomically impossible manner. I have a ton of patience, but I abhor stupidity and well... with all the stupidity that's rampant out there, I think both myself and others would have a more pleasurable gaming experience if I just kept doing things the way I am.
It's not a case that everybody's stupid but me... not in the least. There are a great many people that are far smarter than me. A great number of them - a large number - lotsalotsa, k? But take a look around your current fleet... there's going to be that one guy, right? Yep, and at some point I'd likely say something.
Joining a fleet shouldn't be about getting new, more, or better stuff. It also shouldn't be about feeling like you're missing out on something if you do not. Joining a fleet in STO should be about spending quality time with people you like. It shouldn't matter about how fast the Base is building or what tier the Base is at currently or who has the highest point total on the Leaderboard at of 8 AM PDT this morning.
Fleets are a social aspect of the game, enhanced by making available some goodies which cannot be gotten anywhere else. If you deliberately seek out certain people in game and spend the majority of your time doing things with them because you want to, take the Queen's shilling and sign on. You'll be glad you did and you'll enjoy the game more. You'll not be missing out on anything if you do not join a Fleet. If you prefer to go your own way and do things the way you like, then stay single. You'll still be able to STF and do the things Fleet players can do.
Joining a Fleet is an option, not a must do. You're not going to miss out on anything which is required to make make the game more enjoyable. To borrow a couple of phrases, ahem, "Trust your feelings." and when you do, "You'll have just taken your first steps into a larger universe."
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
I disagree.
Joining a fleet should never be because of "socializing". To achieve that, one can go facebooking, twittering, buzzing and whatnot.
I've joined a fleet but not because someone invited me (and I did get numerous anonymous invitations I just refused to join) and not because I want to chat endlessly, but because I've found a certain fleet with a description that meets my wishes.
While joining a fleet is really just an option, it'd be a waste not to spend anywhere all those fleet marks I've got from forge missions, all that XP I got after reaching level 50 and all those commision XP after 100K.
Find a Lone-Wolf fleet, a gathering of like minded independent players willing to wear the same Fleet tag if only to gain access to the ships and gear a combined effort will get them.
These are usually best run by an individual willing to keep the projects balanced and add major construction projects whenever they arise. I'm quite sure there's one or more already underway Fed side (and I surely have competition on KDF side). You may need to find one by fleet hopping for a bit, and I would not balk at any fleet that asked you to at least get on the Leaderboard before they ranked you to buy provisions - it would be rude to take things others worked for.
Heck, our fleet chat is usually completely silent, though I think we've wound up attracting people not on during my usual play times so I wouldn't see them chatting otherwise.
Good luck with which ever path you choose!

Is it possible in Star-Trek-Online to have for example ''Fleet versus Fleet'' matches or is there like a open pvp zone?
My second question if there is a open-pvp-zone where fleets can take over territories and fight over it such as in Eve?
Thanks in advance.
