Title says it all, Bring them back. They had story, they had a plot... They were better then what we have now -_-
Heres the idea, You can join the current STFs Via the queue OR you can join 1 of these stfs at The systems in gamma orionis. These STFs would give 1500 dilithium Ore, Corrisponding Borg Retro Piece, The final Drop will be a Mk XII [borg] item with a chance at the Borg Medical Analizer Kit. And a Box of Tech. This tech box has a 1% chance for a Rare 0.2% chance for a proto, 10% chance for a Salvage, 100% chance for 2 EDCs.
Intergrate them like the STF bonus days. Except Over a week, Each week a new Retro STF will be open to run. So week 1, Infected, 2, Cure, 3, KA, 4, Infected etc.
This will make older players who enjoyed Story over ubergrind happy, and you grinding grinders who grind to grind grinding grinds can grind. And by old STFs i mean LIKE THEY WHERE.
KA, where u could end up fighting 20million SPheres if u dont watch out.
Infected where they come at you wave after wave!
Cure................. THREE HOURS OF GROUND (rawr)
KA, Where donatra ruunnnzzzzz
Infected, where the end boss is still fail
Cure, where u can solo space in 1 second...
I seriously doubt this will happen, and I'll tell you why - story.
Simply put, while this is the only MMO I have experience with, any vestige of story seems to evaporate the instant you start requiring more than one person. Because there will always be at least one person who somehow manages to complete the entire level in two minutes (yes, I'm cynical, but it seems like everyone does it in half the time I do) and will rush through the dialog (and usually then complain that STO "has no story"). Anyone who wants story will nervously try to enjoy the story while keeping a good pace for the speedster - and in attempting to keep a balance, do neither. And everyone else is caught in an uncomfortable sandwich between the two preferences.
Plus, there's also the grinding aspect. While it's entirely possible to enjoy the same story in the same level several times, and in fact enjoy it more subsequent times than the first time, this does not work out nearly as well when you have people doing the exact same thing at least once a day for months. Although I will grant you you seem to be in favor of it being a weekly event, it still follows the general principle.
So in essence, it's a bit of a one-or-the-other situation. I'm sure someone will yell about how I'm wrong, but this is how I see it and my limited exposure to such elements overwhelmingly supports this. While this is a good idea, I just don't think reality will help this out very much.
I miss the old STF's. Granted, I am a fan of the currents as well, for quick runs... but nothing (at least for the teams I ran with back in the day lol) built camaraderie like the marathon mission.
I dont expect they would get the same action (players) interested in doing these... but to me they were more fun... more immersive (not sure if that is a word). I also got a bigger sense of accomplishment out of them.
The players doing these would be the players you want as a friend. Do you want the player who never looks up from his Dilithium/EDC grind or the player who wants to have fun with friends on a mission? I mean they both have their own player bases.
CRYPTIC: To make the most money apeal to ALL playerbases, not just one.
Ever since F2P Testing, I've wanted them to bring back the old STFs. It was the only thing in STO that really got people to socialize and get to know one another enough to form real friendships, not just the current versions of the fast world of grouping. And because of this, it always felt that Cryptic took STO a step back.
Secondly, the old STFs actually had storyline that was lost with the change to the new format. Nowdays, people just don't have the time to even think about reading, because they are in a rush to beat the optional.
Third, outside of the old Big Dig, the old STFs pretty much was the closest STO ever gotten to an old-school MMO dungeon (even though STFs were 1-way).
People avoided the old STFs like a plague, but I do miss the story part. I actually just dropped the Infected mission (as in the old story mission) from my mission log from my first toon.
Hi, my name is: Elim Garak, Former Cardassian Oppressor
LTS, here since...when did this game launch again?
It looks like your old STFs I've never played were harder.
I don't care how it could be done, but I vote +1 for a genuine elite mode, not an elite-for-noobs mode.
I'm getting bored in "elite" and the challenge of the optional objective is a joke, even in infected ground elite, if you don't pug. The toughest mob in game, the elite tactical drone, can be killed in less than 3 seconds. Is that something you call a hard setting? Why not a champion mode with greater rewards?
I agree...Bring back the old STFs. Actually have two sets present and retro. For the retro STFs the reward would be the retro Borg gear just as it was before. Originally I thought this would be the only way to get the Borg set but then realized most of the STO community would collectively groan followed by the rising sound of cackling from a chicken farm. Then I thought why not? Let the new people experience the retro STFs as we, those that have been here since launch, the veterans have experienced it in all its glory with the same benefits. I am sure the complaining of the present day STFs will drop dramatically if anyone decided to try the retro STFs. Although there would probably be that ultra small portion, .0025%, of the STO community that would go around saying "That wasn't hard." Well...we won't talk about them here. Seriously how many of us veteran players have sat 5 to 6 hours doing the back to back STFs just to get the remaining 3 pieces of the Borg set and only come out with 1 for that day? Raises hand...I did. There were no optional then...only death over and over again and again. We would actually plan a day for STFs so that we could prepare to waste a portion of our day in our lives in a game. We would have a pot of coffee made, an essential ingredient to any STF, a bowl of snacks and a sandwich at our desk. We would gather on Teamspeak or Ventrilo or whatever internet chat room the guild was using at the time and just....go....and have fun...dying a lot.
Then there was Terradome before it got nerfed. It was 5 versus 500. The first statement anyone made was "Why won't these ships die?" Followed by the "I've been watching this group for 5 minutes and none of these guys have flipped a coin yet". To "Holy cow there's a lot of Undine in here!" "Don't shoot the sacks hanging from the ceiling" was a common statement. Followed by the "Who aggro'd the room?" statement. I was playing Terradome with a fleet mate and some others that had formed a team in Gamma Orinis. We had gotten into the end room and started shooting the Sulu's and the Undine when my fleet mate started screaming "the sky is falling the sky is falling!" While shooting wildly into the hordes of Undine I became confused and said "What?" In a adrenalized caffeinated moment he frantically replied "Look up Undine Rangers!" I looked up to see a hundred Undine drop down from the ceiling. Good times good times.
I propose that the retro STFs be re-vitalized. The present day STFs would be a stepping stone to reach the retro STFs. Why? Simply put you would need the Borg gear to do the retro STFs to get the Borg space gear. Any veteran player will tell you that the Borg space gear is the essential to anyone's collection of space gear. If any limitations were to be imposed in access to the retro STFs then one should complete the MACO Team Specialist accolade. Although I hardly think it would be necessary since those who are fortunate to have the Mk XII drops will complete this accolade voluntarily. I'm still waiting for mine says the little blue guy as he goes forth onto the grind. In addition to the Borg space gear I propose that the rewards consist of 2000 dilithium and with 7000 xp. Both which are essential to the construction of the star bases. Nuff said.
I submit this proposal to Perfect World, Cryptic Studios, and the Star Trek Online community to its logical conclusion.

Whether you're for or against bringing back the old STFs, let's not bring back the old threads.
Please remember to check the dates of threads; and if you find an old thread raised from the dead which violates the PWE Community Rules and Policies just report it and avoid posting in it.
Note that you're more than welcome to start a new thread on the topic (unless there is an existing thread on the topic that has received a post within the last 30 days, in which case you can just continue to post in that thread)!

So be nice if they think about it.
