I've noticed I've been doing this a lot with my character to the point where I've created a spreadsheet where it has my bridge and duty officers as my senior crew members which even includes shift rotations for some. I also have been using the game's log system to create a whole bunch of my own captain's logs. Along with this I have written bios for all my bridge officers and my own character.
I do. I started out my character with no intent at RP whatsoever. I started making friends in-game, hanging out with them more, then I found the "party scene" which is really quite fun considering it's just a bunch of pixels dancing around on screen even when you add music. I finally wrote a bio for my main as well, haven't started any for my crew yet.
its funny that you post this because I planned on modeling my captain and bridge officers after the characters in "Ender's Game"(HS Book) complete with bois and everything. kodos, you not alone sir.
Everyone on my ship, my captain, my boffs, even the odd doff I don't want to loose get backstories, personalities and so on. Their bios are all filled out and I sometimes RP with my fleetmates, though not often in game. But when I am flying solo, you betcha I'm rp'ing my captain with my crew.
When I started, I did make logs for each mission and incident. But they started to get heavily repetative due to the nature of the missions, so I kinda stopped that. Though I did make logs when a doff mission went really well (or bad. A Vulcan crewmember died in a lab explosion. There was a log about the funeral services. Poor guy).
Now I finished the missions, I'm mixing it up a little. Instead of rp'ing everyone as a proper starfleet ship, in full uniform, I have relaxed things a bit. Everyone now has different uniforms, usually from the various packs I've unlocked with the in game reasoning it is either the mirror universe version of my characters, or everyone has gone on shore leave for an extended period of time and the uniform code has been relaxed.
Of course, my Klingon I have just started is being fully rp'd. A Klingon that thinks the Empire is only for Klingons, so will be getting rid of any non klingon officers on his ship once he has enough, and he has a youthful appearance but will gradually bulk up and age as I play the missions. He leaves non klingon members of his security team face down in the dirt where they fell.

A Romulan Strike Team, Missing Farmers and an ancient base on a Klingon Border world. But what connects them? Find out in my First Foundary mission: 'The Jeroan Farmer Escapade'
I really like RP in Star Trek Online, especially with the Foundry maps you can make. Ok...they can be a bit limiting, but then again, it's somewhere that roleplayers can meet up and actually RP in different scenarios. Also, you can trigger visual effects to occur as well, so that you can fully immerse yourself in the experience.
I am thinking of making an Alien on either the Federation or Klingon side, but I want my captain to act as a neutral and external alien species. It's going to be difficult setting it up, because every Federation ship has a general theme to it, and the KDF ships are the only ones to feature cloaking technology and that could be a good RP topic to develop.
What do you guys think? Has anyone else thought of creating a 'rogue' faction for RPing?
I wrote backstories for my mains and most of their crewmembers, in the bio fields, but at this point I've got 12 characters and I don't care about them all enough to write up bios for every one of them. Most of them, but at some point a Tellarite's just a Tellarite. Tellarites were set up by the franchise as one-trick ponies anyway. Same with the old Ferengi bank alt that's doffed its way into the admiralty. You know one Ferengi, you pretty much know the entire species.
Never written a log though. Don't you lose those in the generic log spam?
I would, if I wasn't so terrible at being a Vulcan. My sense of humor is just a little more powerful than my sense of logic.
When I get around to making more characters, I'm most likely to play a Ferengi in total RP mode though.
I haven't thought about making backgrounds for my BOffs, but I do get a feel of a unique personality from each one of them.
Vulcan Science Officer -- Captain of the I.F.D. Gallifrey [Tholian Recluse]
Ambassador of The Order Of Gallifrey // Representative of the 1701 Renegades "Be the person your dog thinks you are."
I've started to do this more and more of late. If Cryptic ever allows Boffs to use MACO, OMEGA, and Off Duty outfits on Boffs, I will completely re-do my entire crew.

Yes, we have, the Deferi. They are independent of the Federation or KDF, but we did create an alliance (treaty) with the Federation, it explains why Deferi fly Federation ships. It's fun RP being Deferi, they really add something other faction do not have, and they have a visitable home planet.
Funny, I started out keeping excel sheets on doffs too (missions, who excelled, who got wounded, who died), but as you get along and upgrade them, you get more doffs with the same names, that kind of stuff. And the missions are very limited. So I quit doing that, seeing it didn't make a lot of sense. But naturally my boffs and character all have stories and are even registered in the Defera Citizen Registry (together with those of other players and Deferi you meet in missions).
A funny thing with boffs too, we design them, give them bio's, register them online, and then exchange them with other players. That way they can have careers on several ships, being upgraded on the way.
i have done backstories for 2 of my 4 characters, the others are KDF so what is to tell really? it's all honor, duty to a house and respect for those around you.. with the occasional glorious battle.
one of my characters has a backstory to their BoFFs as well, all but one officer on the ship has classified records though. one day they may get shown off at some point.
i do more then thinking of RP, i may actually write a book based on star trek and see about getting it approved by CBS one day.

That's not nice. Not even the Vice Admiral is allowed to see them?

And back stories for my customized ships.

Sorry if my English is bad.
