In your latest Ask Cryptic, you said you guys said that you couldn't wait to get the Neverwinter Foundry up so you could port it over the STO. If you have the tech already, why not release it to tribble (or re-activate redshirt) to do some serious testing on it or is there some sort of hirer-up premade decision about it?
There is only 1 Foundry team at Cryptic, and right now it's working on NW. Part of the team would need to stop working on NW to start working on STO's Foundry. Right now the priority is getting NW launched - as that's costing PW millions in development and they want to start making that money back.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Also, what they're working on is Neverwinter's Foundry. Porting that code over to STO is a major job. It's not something they can just throw into an STO test server; it would literally not work even a little bit.
Once they've got it stable for Neverwinter, I'm sure they'll start the next round of porting to STO.

Don't expect dev responses in this forum, I don't think they look here anymore. When dstahl said in the ask Cryptic that Zero would be putting together an asset request thread, he seemed not to know that there was a very active thread already (I tweeted him after to that effect). Tacofangs/tumorboy had to be linked to it. Not to mention that we've been making such threads since the Foundry began.
BranFlakes would be the first to tell you that he's not a developer. No developer has posted in this forum - the Foundry Discussion and Feedback Forum - since the 18th when I last posted in this thread.
Don't get me wrong, its great that they've been talking in the Foundry Bug forum, and they really handled the lag issue well, but the dev feedback in this section has been lacking of late. Not to be critical, that's their choice, obviously. And maybe there's just nothing they want/are willing to say on the subjects we've been discussing here. I was just telling the OP not to expect a timely dev response here.
The devs should definitely release it. Even if it would be really buggy, they would get a chance to hear feedback from us, improve it, and fix bugs.
That's kind of what they've been doing. STO Foundry is still technically marked as a Beta. In fact, a fair amount of that stuff they have shown for the NW beta is feedback we've already given and bugs we've already reported.

It's not that it would be buggy; it's that it would be completely non-functional. NW and STO are different games. A lot of development work would have to happen for it to be able to function AT ALL with STO. They will schedule that work when it makes sense for their business. It's not something somebody can do in an afternoon.

Well, I've said before I don't understand why they didn't have the Foundry team working on STO and then port it to NWN, rather than the reverse. Maybe there's some solid reason for it (not having to TRIBBLE up existing code), or maybe it's just a matter of accounting (x amount of money is allocated to NWN, so that is where the resources have to be allocated). Who really knows?
Bottom line, hopefully we'll see some improvements eventually. For the time being you can either accept the Foundry for what it is, and do what you can with it, or you can move on to other things. If your choose to do the latter, I think anyone who has used the Foundry could understand your decision, even if they don't make the same choice themselves.

My suspicion would be that Neverwinter's branch ties into the ways NW is fundamentally different from STO.
It was stated in press reviews that NW has a different control scheme. That would likely mean a somewhat different "feel" for interacting with the world. NW also has interior construction that works a different way and an emphasis on melee by nature of the IP and the video released shows contacts who must be physically approaches in order to talk to them. Dan Stahl mentioned once that Neverwinter has a different dialogue system.
I CAN'T SAY for certain what is different.
But Neverwinter should have a different feel. And keep in mind that some features like the interior construction seen in the preview videos for Neverwinter will require art assets specifically prepped to use that system. The Cryptic presentation released on the Neverwinter Foundry shows that you can place rooms next to eachother and then have a door between them (which is movable) that overwrites a wall. So even if the code could be ported over, STO doesn't necessarily have 3D models or the gameplay elements equipped to use that code.
It might require code overhauls, UI overhauls, and brand new art for STO to be able to make heads or tails of the new features. And perhaps some of the new features will have to be tweaked to make sense in a world with ground and space.

There's been several dev posts here since you typed that, BTW.

Only now are we in a position to receive those.
