Oddy Thought (moved here from a different part of forum by poster)

I was doing some thinking last night while I was waiting for a loading screen with about 140 seconds of SERVER NOT RESPONDING going on, and my mind drifted to cruisers. I love em XD. But they suffer from a low dps as a result of how you have to build them to counter their low turn rate (beam arrays).

Then I remembered an excelsior build one of my friends told me about, instead of running beam arrays he ran DBBs, which was understandable due to the faster turn rate of that ship. That then reminded me of a thread I read once here with a comment that Assault and Star Cruisers were actually viable for using DBBs, since they had enough turn/enough CC to keep a target within 90 degrees of their nose.

So that got me thinking. The oddy doesn't get a lot of love in STFs and other high damage requiring areas, even though console-wise it's great for those kinds of things. But if you have an operations oddy, you get the saucer separation which takes it's crappy 5 or 6 degree base turn and turns it into a much higher and actually usable 10-11 degree turn. Add on the BOff layout and console possibilities, and the ship suddenly becomes MUCH better at turning and moving in general, esp combined with engine batteries.

After thinking all this out, I then wondered, what would happen if you got an oddy, gave it the separation console and then stuck DBBs on the front? Would it finally be able to get rid of the stigma that it's not nearly as useful in STFs? Thoughts would be appreciated on this one guys.

    well in some stf's you just need to sit still and take the beating, so DBB are ok. (infected, KA)

    i use a oddy starcruiser with my engi officer, ltcmdr tac with 2 tac team 1. Although i prefer single cannons and turrets, i can't see why i couldn't be using DBB, since 80% i'm looking straight at my target.
    even tanking a tac cube becomes easy, when your shields never drop. incoming torpedos i take out with tractor beam repulsor or point defense console.

    in my opinion, yes it is possible for stfs, but i wouldn't encourige anybody to do so, since unexperianced people can easily wind up with doing 0 dps.

    D'oh! Should have been able to figure that one out.

    As long as I'm exposing my ignorance here, what does AFK stand for? I've seen it used regarding players hiding in a corner in STF's

    -shrug- 4 DBB's with 4 turrets seriously out DPS the 6-8 beam arrays that most people prefer. I'd suggest TT1 and AP:B1 for tac skills and EPTW1 cycling for maintaining 120+ weapon power. Truth is I think it'd work just fine, you'd still catch grief in Elite STF's but this wouldn't be as bad as some other bright ideas I've seen.

    What would you want to do with the Lt.Cmdr Universal? An engineer won't give you much in that slot in my opinion, especially if you're comfortable with the Damage control engineer system.

    Using a Tac officer would give you access to AP:O1, BO:3 or T:spread 3 if you wanted to grab the borg torps for some solid AOE's. I think that running one [borg] torpedo for T:SP 3 and T:SP 2 cycling would give you a real advantage clearing out nodes when paired with AP:B1.

    actualy I run an oddy battleship. Im using the sep console on a sci oddy with a tac captain.

    I use 2 tt1's bo2 and apd2 the thy3 when fighting borg I use disruptor weapons for the damage resistance debuff.

    disruptor breach plus sensors analysis plus APD

    weapons are 5 arrays 1 dbb the wide angle torp and a hargh'peng.

    Alrighty, everyone who posted in this threat, I thank you. I ran a few tests this morning substituting my sovy in lieu of an odyssey and it performed quite well. I was able to not get left behind in dps by escorts, and it did great damage to the borg in the stfs.

    So I have decided, yes viable, and likely to start using.

    i would love to see a reskin of the oddy actually. i like the stats of the ship but i hate that split neck so very very much. If the whole neck was cut away and the deflector dish part reshaped just a little, that ship could actually look awesome.

    Valuable info but I don't know all these abbreviations. tt1's, bo2, apd2, thy3, APD... Please clarify.

    tt1 = tactical team 1
    bo2 = beam overloas 2
    apd2 = attack patter delta 2
    thy3 = torpedo high yeild 3
    APD = attack pattern delta again just no rank specified.
