Basics for Making a Good Build and Knowing if your Build is Good

First ask the question: What is the purpose of the build. PvP or PvE
Next Ask: What Role am i? Tank (PvE only) DPS, Healer.
Now Ask: Do I have the skills, Boarding party, Tachyon Beam, Gravity Well 2, Photonic Shockwave 2, Attack Pattern Omega 2, or more then 3 team abilitys, If you have any of these your build needs work. Grav Well 2 is the same slot as 3, Same with Shockwave, and Attacj Pattern Omgea. If You have more then 3 team abilitys you become horibly ineffective.
Now Ask: Do I have Tactical Team. If you said no, you need to work it into your build.

Now, for your build. Class matters little. Tactical, Engineer, Science All Can DPS or tank. But, healing is optimal for scis. Science officers can buff there team with class skills, engineers can not.

Must have Skills: Emergency Power to Shields, Tactical Team
Escort:Must Have skills, Attack pattern beta (PvE), Attack Pattern Omega (PvP) Cannon Rapid Fire/Scatter Volly
Escort:Ineffective Builds Beam Overload (Its Accuricy is broken) Fire at will, (Beam scorts do not work, get cannons or be ineffective) Torpedos (PvE) Dual Beam Banks (PvP) (***Exclusions include Target subsustem 3 setups)

Cruisers: Avoid, Rainbows, using many energytypes is pretty, just not effective. Pick 1 and specialize ur consols. (Unless your a Healer, Focus on Chronitons, torps and mines, also Tricobalt works)
Cruisers: Must Have: Emergency Power to Shields, Reverse Shield Polarity, Extend Shields (healer) Engineering team (Healer) Directed Energy Modulation (DPS/Tank), Hazzard Emmiters, Attack Pattern Delta (Healer), Fire at Will (Tank)
Sugjested: Eject Warp Plasma (Tank/DPS), Engineering team (Healer/Tank) Fire At Will (Tank/DPS)
STAY AWAY FROM: Boarding party, Tachyon Beam, Cannon Skills (Exceptions for Dkora), Fire at Will (DPS)

Sci Ships
Not knowing Much about sci ships
Avoid Charged Partical Burst, Tachyon Beam, and Unskilled use of Tractor Beam Repulsors, <-- For pvp
Must Have for DPS: Gravity Well, or Phontonic Shockwave (Recently SuperNerfed btw)
Must Have Skills: Viral Matrix, transfer shield strength, Tactical Team, Hazzardemmiters, Science team.
Must have Healer Skills: Transfer shiedl Strength 3
Good Healer Skills: Photonic officer 3

CONSOL SETUP HELP: DONT GO OVERBOARD WITH C-STORE CONSOLS!
NEVER EVER USE MORE THEN 1-2 C-Store Consols.
The only useful consols from c-store are.......
Plasmonic Leech
Transwarp Coil
Point Defence System
Isometric Charge
MVAM
Cloak
Chevron Sep
Saucer Sep
Also DO NOT USE Aqurius/Worker Bees on oddy.

ARGUE WITH ME ALL YOU WANT OVER THIS. Words dont mean a thing. You show me valid math which shows a C-Store console will give better mathmatical results I will change my entire post around this data. But Standing data shows C-Store consoles are jokes, No math has proved this wrong, and Id love to be shown up.

There are a few exceptions in certain circumstances. Antimater spread IS A JOKE. DO NOT USE IT. For every consol u use lowers your effecency.

The Stat boost consols are worth 3 c-store consols.
AND NEVER USE YOUR C-STORE CONSOLS IN TACTICAL SLOTS UNLESS YOU ARE A HEALER!

    1 quick thing.

    HE 1 and TT 1 are needed on any ship. Thought you might want to put that.

    As a tact captain you can train Boffs in omega 3 and it is necessary for survival. Beta is also good but so is alpha.

    You say no beams on escorts but mention dual beams if doing a target subsystem build. Well which one. Your own logic says a target subsystems escort would be ineffective.

    My main question is. Who asked?

    Don't forget the Enhanced Plasma Manifold aka Poor Man's Red Matter Capacitor. The boost in shields is nice but the boost in aux power directly effects just about every sci ability.

    I run an escort without HE, it works, HE is recomended for Sci and Cruisers, Escorts can focus on more shield based stuff
    Don't forget the Enhanced Plasma Manifold aka Poor Man's Red Matter Capacitor. The boost in shields is nice but the boost in aux power directly effects just about every sci ability.

    This consol is a joke. Sorry. Its a boost every 3 minutes for what 15 seconds? Red matter doesnt take up a consol slot, this takes up that extra 2k shield capacity, or extra 10% healing.

    Some good advice, some not so good.

    - Roles, in PvE the only role you should concern yourself with is DPS. Now that doesn't mean you shouldn't slot in some CC and/or utility but DPS should always be no 1 concern.

    - Not all ships need tac team in PvE

    - My Quantium Defiant build would like to have words with you about beam overload and torpedo escorts being bad. A single BO will drop a pesky cube shield facing allowing my torps to shred them. And against structures the torp beats cannon in raw DPS.

    - Boarding parties do work in PvE, there aren't that many eng abilities to begin with worth taking anyway.

    - Cannon cruisers work very will in PvE, like the Excel, that new Cstore one, galaxy-X, Sov can to a point, etc. Also, the only real role in PvE is DPS first, tank/healer is the utility you can bring not your role.

    - Sci ships need to focus on a specialty in PvE be it power drain, shield shred, mobility control, etc. Torpedoes are a good pick if running high Aux otherwise DBB+turrets work well with high weapon power. But once again, DPS is primary role everything else is secondary.

    - Mines suck.

    1. Not everyone wants to be DPS, if ur doing no win scenario, well. U need both a healer and tank.
    2.Yes however these are the BASICS, yes builds dont need tact team but anyone who needs this guide should be using it
    3.I said they werent Optimal. Meaning ull get more results from raw energyweapon DPS. Torpedo and spike builds are ineffective agaisnt Smaller targets, and Superlarge targets. a spike build wont help with the tact cube (as much as a DPS build)
    4.I said there were exceptions, Cannon builds is exceedingly hard to pull off. Again its a basics guide, More advanced players can pull off a cannon build.
    5. Im not the king of science ships. Ive only ever done healing in a sci ship. No idea how it works. I always advise using anything except a sci ship.
    6. Mines on a healer for pvp, since u said it, healers arent viable for pve. Mines in pvp however are very powerful in exces. Have 5 people spamming Chonitons and anyone without Attack Pattern Omega wont be able to move.

    Futhermore im not telling you how to play your game, Im just telling you how to be optimal. Torpedo builds are harder to pull off, if ur using a workking Torpedo Build then you dont need this guide.

    I wouldn't use this console. The +22.9 to warp core efficiency may look good but it will still only work out to about +2 for power levels at 25 and +1 for power levels at 50. That means all you really get is +5 power total spread out amongst 3 power catagories.

    I do think the MVAM console should be on that list of c-store ships though.

    I agree with most points just have to add on stf you can get away with nearly anything

    Including playing in a lower level ship and tanking on the ground fresh on level 50

    Well if your a healer, stick it in tactical, And ur right i need to add the Unique2ship consols.
