Tactical Officer - build help needed

britrabbitbritrabbit Member Posts: 18 Arc User
Hey! I have a tactical officer (Human, Warp Theorist and Peak Health) that im aiming to be a tank in any form of cruiser in space and dps/tank on the ground.

Now, I have a problem right here, AFAIK you should only really put six into each skill you want, at Lieutenant Grade 7 right now and I have too many skill points, I'm wondering if its worth putting more skill points into skills I already have or getting new ones, here is what I have so far. (Typed up, not sure how I use the build tools)

SPACE

Starship Weapons Training [6]

Starship Hull Repair [7]

Starship Shield Emitters [6]

GROUND

Weapons Proficiency [6]

I primarily intend for this to be a PvE build by the way, anyhow, should I just put more skillpoints into these skills till more skills become available or should I get new skills?

One last problem, do you have to acquire abilities manually or are they automatic?

I max those skills on my 2 tacs and on my characters of other classes, all of those are important for your damage and survivability. It is ok to max lower tier skills, just when you get to captain and admiral tier skills it gets expensive to max out.

You get your new captain abilities as you level up automatically.

Be VERY careful where you put skill points. If you don't do it right you have to buy a respec for 500 zen, which is what I did. I'm currently in the process of figuring out where to put points. So don't rush, I would take time to plan it out carefully where to put skill points. As for the skills you mentioned, they're good. But as I said, consider all ranks of skills before placing points anywhere.

Thanks guys :), I'll be careful and only go for the skills I think I'll need, I might get starship attack patterns though, found myself using attack pattern alpha a lot.

Attack patters alpha is your bread and butter.

Also you should put at least 3 in all your ground abilitys so you can switch kits and not loose effectiveness.

if you havent noticed yet there is a limit per level on how many points you can spend and a limit per tree. (ground tree space tree) (lol space tree)

Wow o-o I'd pay to see Q getting punched in the face...

Im a bit wary of putting points into grenades as I never use them but I suppose it can't hurt.

Don't sweat about how you spend your skill points as you level up. Save your respecs as you level up. When you get to level 50, you will then want to get serious about how you spend your skill points, and will want to have some free respecs as you figure things out.

Before you do your level 50 spending, or for any respec, use a skill planner. STOWiki has a good one.

For me, I put 6 points into grenades because I cannot live without my grenade satchel. But unless you're like me and plan to use a greande kit all the time, I wouldn't put more than three points into grenades.

Hmmm..... you used to be able to buy respecs for in-game currency - captain's skill points, maybe. They shouldn't have taken this out.

I am interested in skill selections as well. Your selection in the skill planner is the sort of way I was thinking of going. Interested in knowing if people have any thoughts on this. I want to get things right to make the game a better experience.
