Can some one please explain this tactic?

Ok the best example I have got, but i have many..

In cure space elite. We kill the left generators and then the transformers along with the spheres. We then turn our attention to the nanite spheres. I fire a Gravity well at them, bunching them into one group. I hit cannon scatter volley and start to take down all there shields. I also drop some tricobalt mines in the middle of them all.

Ok so this is the tactic i am scratching my head about..

Just as the mines are about to hit the spheres, some dumb TRIBBLE in his cruiser tractor repels all the nanites out of the gravity well and away from the mines, pushing all the nanites to safety.

Anyone?

    Well..

    My best guesses:

    The other player...

-miss-clicked repulsors (i have done it in the past)
-he was hoping to dish out some extra dps on nanites/cube
-thought the Gravy Well was soon to end and wanted to push them away
-perhaps he just didn't know your tactic
-He didn't see your mines (a recent patch made it so mines/small things dont have targeting circles (for the life of me cant remember how to spell retricilces?) unless you target manually.

Or finally, maybe he was just inexperienced and thought he was doing something to help keep the borg away from Kang.

Relax, not everyone is perfect in STFs,

I'll give you a personal example, I was flying my vo'quv in a Cure space elite recently, forgot to modify my carrier commands as I went, (i aggroed the neg/raptor and didn't last long) then after that I completely forgot to take my pets off of recall, meaning my dps suffered.

    In short:
We all make mistakes, we all have accidents, remain calm and have fun playing :p
[Combat (Self)] Your Bite deals 2378 (1475) Physical Damage(Critical) to Spawnmother.

Uh... I'm confused, which STF are we talking about? it sounds as if you're describing infected space elite, so I assume you meant that instead of CSE. The only two options really are that he didn't know your tactic or he made a mistake.
I ask nothing but that you remember me.

I'd wager a guess on the other player can't see your mines. I can't see them on the screen either. Or he just didn't know what was going on. It happens.

That's Infected, by the way. Cure doesn't have nanite spheres. ;)

Wait you're talking about Infected Elite, right.

However the main problem with running STFs ground or Space in GUPs, is people tend to run their own tactics which doesn't always work with what others are doing. Mainly due to lack of communication, this can be because others don't read chat or just don't care what others are doing or saying.

Yes like elandarksky said, they could have made a mistake. I have seen all sorts of things happen, like how some one repulsed the spheres onto the gate on Infected or blew a cube too early on Cure or popped 2 nano probes on every transformer in khitomer accord, because they said it is the best tactic. To have all 4 cubes out at the same once.

Some people don't have a clue, don't care or just do it to be an A***ole. GUPing is rolling the dice, do I get a good team, a bad team or just a bunch of A***oles.

On an example of what people are like.
In a CS our team consisted of 4 fleet members and a GUP. We explained the tactics we would like to run, multiple times in chat and the GUP never responded once in chat, so we went ahead and ran what we explained. However Mr,gup ran his own thing and soon everything went pear shaped. He then decided to started calling us all idiots on chat and how we are failures, because we use TS3 and we needed to be using Skype.

I've had similar instances like that where teamates have asked them to stop doing it and the responce was that they "do more dps than you do" or something similarly inane. I tend to get nauseous when I see TBR in action now.

Tractor Repulsors 3 can deal some hefty damage in and of them self (1200-1400 direct hull dmg per pulse and thats not fully specced), in a sci ship that's some valuable dps.

I've recently been getting into crowd control type builds on my ships with high sci abilities. Used well it is quite effective and often a pug saver. It's useful in all fleet events and often useful in STFs.

When using it I tend to have already bunched up my targets with GW1, then I can angle my ship so the direction they get shoved off into (once GW has dissipated) is helpful or non detrimental to the rest of the team.

If there's a bunch of targets in a grav well or plasma cloud I hold off on firing it until the localised AoE effects have worn away. Things like torp spread and CSV are very hard to take into account, often those are firing off so frequently I don't think it's much of an issue when TBR is used, unless they're close enough to warp breach damage each other there shouldn't be too much of an issue.

If used respectfully it's as worthy a skill as Grav Well. The trick is how and when to use it. Also one of the few sci abilities that still works well.

And when players use TBR without thinking/consideration of the other players who have lined up shots , and push targets out of arc/range 1,200-1,4000 per pulse is next to useless. TBR users need to know the better moments to use the ability.

I have miss fired my TBR before. Usually I use them to mess up some poor soul?s alpha strike on my Cruiser. Last night in one of the STF pug groups, I used them by accident after a team mates gravity well expired. What I wanted to do was activate my Anti-Matter Spread to keep them bunched up, Anti-mater spread is ctrl8 and my TBR is Num. Pad 8. I must have slipped holding ctrl down. It happens.

Other times, I try and push the probes away from their target destination in order to buy time. TBR in the no win scenario are great for pushing enemy targets out of range of the transport! They even stop those pesky warheads!

When its used right, TBR can be a great help. The problem is too many people DONT use it right, and other teammates get hosed for it.

I've just got to LOL at the lame excuses and "reasoning" here.

You guys are missing the obvious.

His bridge crew was ASSIMILATED! Hellloooooooo you're fighting the Borg! Some must have gotten on board by some clever ruse (selling subscriptions to magazines) and now the ship is in their control!

    Don't over think this!

But yah, TBR is sorta useless. Put GW in that spot, or just get rid of it.

I take it back. It is absolutely useless here.

first i really think we are talking about Infected space elite...not cure.

second, yeah **** happens. people do this stuff on occasions.

also i wasn't there, are you sure your gravity well +those extra dmg would have killed off all spheres before the the gravity pull was over...i doubt it.

Yeah, really weird stuff happens when two people try to do the same thing at the same time with two different strategies.

Based off of OP, I would say this guy was just an idiot. Last night I was on ISE, and we all know, you leave the gens at 10% then kill all of them at the same time then blow the transformer before the nanites can get there right? Well this idiot Klank (no offense to any KDF players out there except this one) in a carrier proceeds to go HERPA DERP I'M HELPING!!! and destroys a generator before we can get set up. We get the sphere spawns and the nanite spawns and almost lose the optional. Thankfully we had 3 trigger happy escorts and a Sci captain that was pro with his gravity wells and TBR and we managed to kill the remaining generators and the transformer without any nanites touching it. Then that @#$%tard does it AGAIN on the other side, after we SPECIFICALLY said, LEAVE THE GENERATORS AT 10%. Idiot never said a word the whole time too. What really really REALLY grinds my gears is then when we pick up the optional that %^&* gets the prototype salvage in the loot. Apparently there is no justice.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once. B)

In the right hands, used ONLY at the right time, TBR's can be awesomely useful. Sadly most people just spam them with little thought at all.

Sometime escorts end up wasting buffs as some fool pushes their target straight up. Sometimes they push a nicely held mob to safety. Sometimes they even push Borg ships towards the transformer or kang.

In PvP it's hilarious since when the opposing team uses it, it generally helps you evade the teams escort. On the otherhand if your teammates use it, it screws up a well aimed shot that would have killed the target.

Again it has it's uses, but it must be used very tactfully. GW though is much much more useful in oh so many ways, especially how it helps escorts with cannon scatter volley easily kill a whole mob.
