Hello everyone, why not use the WOLF 359 system as a "TEMPORAL" SPECIAL TASK FORCE or FLEET ACTION? According TNG episode "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II", a fleet of 40 vessels was assembled to attack a Borg cube!

What would the point be of putting in an STF that my tactical patrol escort can literally complete in 3 seconds? That's how long it takes for me to destroy ONE Borg Cube, as was the actual situation at 359.

You've answered your own question. One Borg cube. High tier ships in this game can destroy those by themselves.

The Battle of Wolf 359 was such an "exciting" disaster because that cube was carrying the assimilated Jean-Luc Picard (Locutus) and they knew Starfleet's tactics. But even with that, the "battle" would only take a few seconds (maybe a minute or two for low levels) because players don't fight the exact same way Starfleet does. ;)

Besides, even a tactical cube will go down pretty fast with four or five people shooting at it.

unless this borg cube can kill players in one shot and not allow respawns to keep it historically accurate, since its a "temporal" mission, meaning time travel and not simulation.

We kinda already went back to that in the State of Q mission, so I really don't feel the need to do Wolf 359 again. Really, the attack on Vega colony is kind of the Wolf 359 of this game in many ways.

I wish we could do something there, but meh, I really don't think it's too vital.

Now if there was something new there, like a Super Mecha Death Cube that needed 20 people to take down, ok then, sounds good to me. :D
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Within the game canon 25th century ships have learned how to defeat Borg ships faster then the Borg have learned to counter the tech advances. So what you'd end up seeing at Wolf 359 is basically what we already see in Gamma Orionis DSE: many Fed ships fighting many Borg ships. Since it's so common in GO any impact it might have at Wolf 359 is really lost.

I do agree with the basic premise, though. There should be something to do in Wolf 359 as it is a somewhat important point of Trek lore. I'm just not sure that beating up on a Cube, or even a giant-monster-like Super Cube, would really be all that interesting.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

now that depends. what if those players to go back in time were limited to T1 and T2 ships? and the cube was about as strong as the Tac Cube at the end of infected elite, i could see it being a pretty tough battle. especially if they could disable respawning in the instance. have it similar to no-win scenario or something, see how long the fleet can last before getting its TRIBBLE kicked.

I kinda feel that we need a high-level fleet action that's borg related. Sort of like how Starbase 24 is like for people who are leveling their characters. Borg cubes being such pushovers also doesn't sit well with me, although Tac Cubes and V'Ger One thru Ten kinda make up for it.

I'm, personally, not someone who likes giant monster fights. I don't get much enjoyment out of fighting something which has a million hit points and a bunch of people just need to pew-pew it down. That's always seemed like the most pointless of conflicts in every MMO I've ever played - unfortunately it's usually the end-game raid missions of every MMO I've ever played.

But even then I'd have to ask myself, why am I traveling back in time and why am I only allowed a T1/2 ship? I've already traveled back in time in several other STO Mission and wasn't limited to a T1/2 ship, so why would I be now?

A more interesting choice might be to make Wolf 359 the first Fleet Action in the game: something you do right after the Tutorial or after coming out of the Azura Mission - as a continuation of the borg fight in the Tutorial. At that point you're already in your T1 ship and taking on a Tac Cube really could seem like a huge deal.

    Here is an idea:

    Wolf 359 "re-enactment"

This could replace the space portion of the tutorial. Instead of starting out in the Vega Colony (Which you can't even get back to til you are an admiral), you are an Ensign on a ship at the "Battle of Wolf 359." Same premise, the entire command staff gets "killed" in the attack and you have to assume command of the vessel. The rest of the tutorial can work the same way. You do the ground portion in the holodeck at Starfleet Accademy. This would be your "final test" for transfering into the command track of Starfleet. You are then assigned to a ship for patrols that end up getting cought up in the war.

FYI, its actually been speculated that there wasn't just 1 Borg Cube at Wolf 359. Otherwise how did all the victims end up in the Delta Quadrant or Seven of Nine remember assimilating victims at Wolf 359.

Because Borg have something VERY much like Iconian gateways aboard their ships. That's what the Queen's comment was about in First Contact as well.

The Borg can move between ships instantly and also can branch around through space and time, which is why the Queen can die more than once.

If there was 1 cube at Wolf 359 that was irrelevant by the end of Voyager. Janeway had her ship one-shotting Cubes by the end of the series.

I would love a 20 player instance with 1 Unber Cube (think of a regular Cube, but 4x as big) and Nanite Spheres around for a challenge with a bunch of NPC ships flying around doing random stuff to bring Fed ships to 40 (and just to get one shot :D).

EDIT: Borg do not have Iconian tech, they have Transwarp Conduits, the Queen was implying a 4th dimensional solution, perhaps akin to temporal cloning.

yeah just what we need, another borg mission. but, im sure the devs could come up with a boss battle in space that would be...interesting. instead of a mountain of hps, large hull regen, always-on faw, "borg cutting beams" special weapon, shield neutralizer as always. susceptible to boarding parties, and antimatter spread. all in an encounter that has a "time limit" as you are stopping it from getting to earth-so its constantly moving.

reward with trophies and usable loot-tired of getting just ec's from stf's, i want something actually cool

My ship goes back in time to engage ONE borg cube.

    Activate Attack Pattern Alpha
    Activate Attack Pattern Omega
Activate the tactical skill that increases damage output by 20%
    Activate Rapid Fire 2
    Activate High Yield Torpedo 3
    Begin attacking the cube.
    "Enemy Shields are down."
    Fire off HYT3 Quantum Torpedo.
    Cube explodes
    Activate Evasive Maneuvers
Activate Emergency Power To Engines (to fly through the debris and get away before the warp core breaches.

"YOU WIN! Don't forget to collect your reward."

    Total elapsed time: 4 seconds.

That is pretty much the run down of a single Borg cube. Its strange that Spheres are a bigger pain then a single Cube. A Cube should be more menacing then a group of Spheres, yet it seems like 2 or more Spheres are enough to give someone a hard time.

only because of unadaptable torpedoes. if it wasnt for transphasic torps and the ablative armor voyager would have been obliterated early on in the endgame episode.

A long time ago, many people suggested a Wolf 359 Fleet Action for Gamma Orionis (when it was an active zone with the OLD STFs). The Borg Cube would similar to the Crystaline Entity in difficulty (since they both have fast regeneration rates). And storywise, instead of protecting Earth, the goal was to protect the Omega Fleet. (Who is hidden from Borg Detection).

For some reason, Cryptic passed over such a golden opportunity for a classic battle.

This is an interesting topic, i say that in part that i have always thought they should do something with it as it has always been a placeholder. But, perhaps they could create it as a museum with information to provide historical position and information which allows you to receive fleet merits, accolades whatever but something more than what exist currently needs to be addressed, just like Andoria.

Or how about a contest; people write Foundry missions that take place in W359 and expand what's there. The winning entry gets reworked into what replaces (or supplements) the existing memorial.

Now that is a great idea, that should be entertained far more in the game. It really should be expanded. Great idea!!!!!!!!!

Heres how to make a fleet action featureing a Borg Tactical Cube

    Name: "Proto-Tactical Cube"
    Hull:4,500,000
    Shields:1,250,000
    Hull Resistance All: 10%
    Shield Resistance All: 25%

The tactical cube has 6 diferent tactical "stances"
    Battle Stance
While in battle stance the tactical cube balances its shields and fires 18 beams. Perpetual FAW, Attack Pattern Beta, Torpedo Spread 1 Perpetual, Every 8 seconds it fires a torpedo spread it deals 2.5k dmg each. Each Beam hits for 1.2k
Note: Battle stance is the default stance

    Destroyer Stance
While in Destroyer Stance the tactical cube uses attack pattern alpha, beta, and delta. It uses 4 beams in this stance. The cube focuses fire. Its trying to obliterate one person, Each beam hits for 3.5k meaning it is doing 3500x4 DPS. It also uses torpedo high yield 3 perpetual, Every 6 seconds it fires a heavy torpedo that deals 100k damage.
Note:This stance will be switched to when enough aggro is generated by a single person

    Balance Stance
While in balance stance the tactical cube has perpetual tactical team. Using 12 Beams running Fire at will every 10 seconds for 10 seconds. Beams hit for 2k each when in FAW, 1k without. Fires a torpedo that hits for 4 seconds, hits for 3k Damage.
Note: This stance is activeated when Aggro is low and around 250k RAW damage has been delt This stance will replace the default whenever the cube is under 90% HP

    Healer Stance
While in healer stance he uses 2 beams each hits for 3.4k Perpetual faw. Perpetual Tactical Team. And it regenerates 6000 hull every second. And regenerates 1000 shields every second. Healer stance REMOVES 10% Hull and shield resistance.
NOTE: Activated when HP is at 50% Will be in this stance for 1-3 minutes can switch to balance or destroyer depending.

    Tank Stance
While the cube is in tankstance It uses 3 beams with perpetual faw. Each beam hits for 3k. While in tank stance Hull and shield resistance is increased to 80% allowing the cube to absorb an incredible amount of damage. It regenerates 1000 hull every second and 100 shields every second. Perpetual tactical team
NOTE: When 100k damage is delt withen 20 seconds this activates. It deactivates after 2-4 minutes.

    Endgame
This is the final stance. The cube uses 40 beams each hits for 3k with perpetual FAW. Increases damage resistance to 40%. Regenerates 1000 hull every second and 250 shields every second. The cube is resistant to draining and is extreamly deadly.
NOTE: Activates when cube is at 20%

NOTE: All cubes IMMUNE TO syphon drones!

NOTE: Cube can fire up to 15km away

Remeber thsi is a fleet action for no less then 20 people.
