Negh'Var or Vo'quv

Sooo, a few days ago I joined the dark side :P and I built myself an Orion engie (because I liked my fed engie so much) and I am now rapidly approaching lvl 40.

Bearing in mind that I am used to flying an Odyssey Operations cruiser, which is the best bet for my free lvl 40 ship? The Vo'quv or Negh'Var? I am looking to tank nicely yet do more DPS than my oddy, which is sadly lacking in that area :o

If you could give me a few pointers I would be very grateful, as i am loving the KDF side already, and i will shortly be making a Tac BOP pilot because those things are a blast to run:D

Thanks all,

Vo'quv. Negh'var is pretty much the same as a Federation cruiser with a slightly better turn rate and a frustrating BOFF layout (what do you do with that eng ensign other than ET1?). Vo'quv is something different that you can't use on a Fed character without hitting the c-store. It seems dull to try 'the other side' and then do more of the same, and for that reason alone, Vo'quv.

You may find the Vorcha a good choice as well for tankyness and Damage output. Given a battle cruiser's turnrate you can almost fly one like a big slower Escort including cannons.
    Leonard Nimoy, Spock.....:(

Though if you want to do that, you can buy a Mirror Battlecruiser for pretty cheap and get both. :D

The Vo'Quv is the better choice for reasons already stated. However, it is also:

-A %^$#%!@ whale (20 inertia base and turns like a straight line)
-not great for firepower (3 each fore and aft weapons) although you make up for this somewhat with effective use of your hangar bays
-Surprisingly fragile even with that 4000 crew (which die easily even with buffs like Jem'Hadar crew bracing)

That said, I still love mine, it's a great ship for my KDF sci.

As an Orion Engineer I chose the Vo'quv,

Using a build that focuses on energy draining/leeching you can quite often have your power levels constantly green 100+,

Though you only have 6beams you can fire them at a strong power, and you have two sets of hangers to bolster your dps too! (i highly suggest you DONT take power syphons, my experiance with them is they are not worth the hanger space) You might want to pick up an advance orion slaver or two, they are decent dps, litter the map with quantum mines, and have a chance of stealing small amounts of EC, common commodities, or small stacks of contraband!

Stf wise, the voquv is very good, you dont have to worry about your turn rate, as you can mostly predict how the borg will move (slowly..). Having your commander SCI ability as gravyity well and your second boff's commander a tyken drain, you can dual role for stfs, (being a control ship then switching to a debuff ship for bosses)

With your innante engineering abilities you can also find yourself supporting yourself and your team, while maintaining a fairly good dps too.

If you do choose a vo'quv be sure to build wisely and have fun ^^.

    Edit:
A good tip for the voquv is keep its axuilary fairly high, better cooldowns on your hangers AND it helps your sci abilities and overall tanking :)
[Combat (Self)] Your Bite deals 2378 (1475) Physical Damage(Critical) to Spawnmother.

Thanks guys (and girls) you have all been really helpful, when I get there, in 4 levels time I shall probably go for the Vo'Quv as it seems to be a unique and interesting choice, as I have never flown a carrier before.

Besides I can always pick a mirror vor'cha later or a negh'var with dil :D

    any advice on builds now?
