A big "thank you!" to Cryptic for setting Mine name and reticles to disabled as default. I really couldn't have done it without you! :D

lol... fixing screen-spam by making the most dangerous objects on the battlefield invisible to n00bs... well done...well...done...

EDIT: I think people have to get used to the idea of mines dealing damage. If I came at the cruiser with a full tac-buffed DHC attack, he would have been OK with having to fire every skill on his tray to survive. Because my attack is different, though I'm equally committed to it, he does not see the risk. My attack is far easier to survive than a DHC alpha, my whole build can be nullified by a dozen abilities. The way I see it, mines, if used more frequently, will force players to think not only about shield and hull healing. They will have to sacrifice one ability to deal with mines. Maybe, just maybe, this will make PvP healing a little bit weaker? (at least i dare hope..)

    so twofold problem:
    1. Mines being invisible to common people who don't adjust their UI
    2. People being used to conventional Escort thinking.

A fork in the hands of the right person can be a deadly weapon, if people choose not to defend themselves... :D (And I've spent weeks now, working on my forking skills ;) )

(also, i'm pretty max out... pull set of 4 purple XII trics, and 4 purple XII TCD consoles, and ofc skilled to the rafters in everything relevant... just wish my captn had acc/elusive traits :( can't wait for my 5-console AE though...)

hmm... maybe I can make a list.... just for fun...

Active boff abilities to clear mines:
    Warp Plasma
Scramble (scramble me, and my mines will kill me)
    TBR
    PSW
    FAW
    GW
    Tykens

Passives (to run away from the mines, who travel slowly):
    Evasive
    EPtoE
    Engine battery
    AuxtoD
    Subspace jumper

    Consoles:
    Impulse burst
    "warp-plasma related consoles"
    Isometric charge
    AMS
    (Point defence)
Edit: Acetone Assimilator! (the best mine clearer of all!)

or... carry a photon mine launcer on autofire.

If everything else fails, target and shoot the mines.

Any one of these counters, if timed well, will save a ship from my dirty trics! :)

There wouldn't be half so much screaming about mines if Cryptic would go back and make the Admiral Ackbar BOff available to everyone straight off at level 1.

Add Aecton Assimilator to that list of mine cleaning
[Combat (Self)] Your Bite deals 2378 (1475) Physical Damage(Critical) to Spawnmother.

In my BoP, I utilize a few of those passives. I don't have room for the active skills in my preferred build. I usually just hit evasive maneuvers or Pattern Omega to haul my behind out of the area quickly.

Yup, it's funny to see how most people don't consider my mines a threath... (ofc, some can not see them because of poor UI settings). I've had a lot of dogfights, where my opponent for some reasons don't suspect a trap, even when seeing that my escort has two blue phasers with no power as its only weapons...

I think the idea of stationary hard-hitting objects is adding something of a new layer to PvP. "Active defence" has never been much of an issue for other ships than escorts, who try to blow up their opponent before he can wear down the escorts defences. Now all captains have to use some attention and also build their ships to avoid getting tric-popped.

Yeah, I don't underestimate tricobalt mines (especially since I fly a Hegh'ta in PVP), now that they are far more effective through shields. Nobody else should, either. The other mines are manageable. . .it's the trics that can kill you if you're not careful.

Basically, they need to make tric mines visible even when you have the 'hide mine boxes' option enabled.

Lets talk about optimizing the UI first and make it properly GPU accelerated yes? I'd rather have as least as much reticles as possible, at least with my older PC.

You need a good i5/7 with good instruction per clock performance or a very fast clockspeed in order not to drop your fps to below <60 in a spam heavy area lol (Where 3D rendering of the mines is obviously not the culprit)

I say we equip all tric mines with firework devices! It will be spectacular, and the lag guarantees a clean kill! :D

But yeah, trics are a UI issue more than anything else, and the UI sucks big time.

How about giving the tric mines an intense bloom effect? Just to make them visible without invoving the UI? Or would that mess up people with weak GFX cards? I like the idea of dropping clusters of little stars :)

but it has to be for tric mines and heavy torps only... so you know what mines you can/can't afford to ignore... or... it just occured to me... maybe if they were just a little bit different looking? So it would add an element of difficulty/skill to the equation...

holy fudge! you expect me to ask all those mines their name? One by one?

I try to drop my trics along with a cluster torp... that's a more dense cluster than you'll have strength to read through even out of battle!

With a swift sweep with your mouse you should get a good general idea whether an area is safe or not. If the mines still prove to be a major issue for you, I've ran out of ideas to help you, sorry :c

EDIT: disregard that, I'll make you a togglebind for showing and hiding mine names later :]

    Hud settings

First select the settings you generally have and type "/ui_save_file off"
Then choose the settings you want to switch to with a keystroke (mine names on, for example), press apply and type "/ui_save_file on"
Then add to your bind file the following:

    add "ui_load_file on"
    substract "ui_load_file off"

Now pressing + will show the mine names
Pressing - will hide them again.

    --

If you want to toggle it from one button (ctrl for example), make 2 txt files called "toggle1" and "toggle2".

    toggle1 should have this:
    control "bind_load_file toggle2 $$ ui_load_file on"

    toggle2 should have this:
    control "bind_load_file toggle1 $$ ui_load_file off"

    Happy toggling-mine-names-on-and-off.

MT Brony is right, this is the worst UI ive ever experienced in an MMO. Cryptic would do well to take a few steps back and re do their UI

no problem for me, I have mines visible all the time, and anyway, I'm the one dropping them ;)

great! i'll link this post in zonechat before decloaking, and then the pugs will have only themselves to thank when they run into my mines!

come to think of it, i'll add the text message in a keybind to my decloak button, to save time! :D
