My advice to some of you bored people

jtmarshjtmarsh Member Posts: 0 Arc User
My best advice to you.. Also to anyone that this would help.

DONT GRIND! Don?t play for freking hours and hours a day. I'm a 900+ day guy. I have one toon. Well I have started a Kling 6 weeks ago lol. Until then? One fed tac toon. Plus I?m just about daily player;) I have both sets of STF gear. thorian stuff, complete duty officer chain missions & renown titles, All purple doffs, all mk12 purple consoles. So its not like I just frak around.

Want to know what a daily player since day one has left? I have not completed a defari invasion. I have not started a mining mission, I have not crafted so much a freking tricorder;) I have not re run the new remastered mission. Oh and did I mention the whole 1 full time toon;)

I just sip my drink:) Enjoy it! I may play a hour & half a day or 3 hours. This game is not Super Mario! Its not made to buy once and then throw away after beating Gannon. Take your time. I don?t think there is a MMO out that could satisfy hardcore grinders. Content cant come out quick enough for some people.

"game has woefully little content? then just play it less and slower to artificially inflate it and your problems will be solved!!"

"only able to afford one meal a day? just only eat 1/3 of a meal a day and your problem will be solved!!"

rationing gameplay may make it take longer to complete but the actually hours of entertainment it provides is the same

I agree, i plan to take it slow myself and simply enjoy the "ride"!

Usually play with only one toon myself...

My slightly different advice, for all games, is 'only do stuff that's fun.'

Might seem obvious, but... when something starts feeling like a job or grind? Go do something else. Otherwise you will get burned out and bitter when you finally achieve whatever Skinner token you were trying to get and realize FRAK THIS GAME.

If you enjoy doing stuff over and over for 6 hours? Go for it! If you don't? Don't!

(Right now my level of interest in the game is 'load it up and do a few pvp matches once a month,' but hey)

    11 Chars...

i am playing with all of them, sometimes more sometimes less.

the good thing is, i ALWAYS have something to optimize or change on some char, so i never get bored, never run out of goals to reach.

and yepp i also GRIND... i grind STFs, Fleetmarks, DOff missions... etc. etc.
but all at it's own pace, when i get bored and the next project still needs 150 Fleetmarks, i close STO or do something else, the fleet is big enough, there is no need for me to fill everything on my own, i'm only helping a bit here and there.

In the end, i don't think i would have played as many STFs if it wasn't for having fun because of other players.

The SOLO grinding of B'Tran or the Breen Dailies for... "Emblems" was really painful compared to the new Grinds. Or heck the PRE-DOff-System Diplomacy grind ...pfff

Even though I love playing STO solo some of the most fun I have is the weekly Fleet Events I schedule for my Fleetmates. When you get a couple of dozen of us all on Teamspeak and just having fun doing some Shuttle PvP, or Shuttle Exploration, or a Fleet Event/Fleet Mark Event it's really a blast. And even when I'm just playing solo I'm usually on Teamspeak and chatting with other online Fleetmates also playing solo.

There's a social aspect to this game which often gets overlooked and does add a huge dynamic to playing - even if you are just doing the same Dailies for the 1,000th time. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

My advice... avoid the grind... there is no prize for finishing first....

Explore the foundry, heck consider authoring your own mission... I am tentatively sketching one out... (my apologies up front ;) )

As others said... do what you enjoy, or add variety... there are enough things out there to do... repeating the same thing every day, or even many many times during the same day... will drive you batty.

Also, if you need it... take a break. Go away for a bit... Come back a little more refreshed. The projects will still be there to be done, the missions will be waiting, and the Federation or KDF will still be at war.

    I couldn't disagree more.

First of all pvp is not fun and has the least rewards. You must have run out of stuff to do a year ago ?

Second I just grinded all the way to a f2p carrier on stf exclusively... and yes I had to watch youtube while spamming the spacebar to keep from going insane

But now with that ship I have more fun in sto than ever even though there is nothing left for me to get

Simple fact is you want the best items and since you can only reach those by grinding - anything but pvp - there is no choice but to go to work if you want to have fun later

I do think both space and ground combat is fun in itself though but until you have the gear or items it is a job

I want to play for 2 hrs every day. So this game needs 730 hrs of unique gameplay. Is that too much to ask from a free 2 play game?

Fixed that for you. Some of us actually enjoy PvP in STO and find it very enjoyable and wish to see it grow.

I pretty much do what the OP does. I have 3 toons, only 2 of which (both KDF) I actually use right now. One is my PVP toon, the other is my PVE toon. I haven't actually done Defera Invasion, either, and I haven't even so much as set foot on Nukara or seen the planet, or a Tholian. I don't like ground, so I avoid it where I can nowadays. I either STF, PVP, or sit around shooting the breeze with fleet members in chat. I've been thinking of looking into the Foundry content and seeing what's good, since I'm hearing a lot more about it nowadays.
My PvP toon is Krov, of The House of Snoo. Beware of my Hegh'ta of doom.

Good for you, you sound like a balanced man.

Only, we are called Deferi, not Defari.

    My gen advice:

    • Play how/what you want to play and don't get stressed (i.e if your given advice on your playstyle don't feel like its a bad thing, learn, improve and you will have more fun and try not to rage over things)
    • Don't play only one game jump between games in gen (be it pc, xbox, ps3, handheld; this helps mitigate the feeling of "burning" out on a game)
    • Make good friends along the way, not people that want to friend you for the sake of contacting you when they need you or you need them so that you can get together on a regular basis and have fun enjoying the game be it competitive or casual

There's plenty more gaming advice out there but these are general enough. :P
