What class of officer should I pick for my next Fed character?

cptmcauleycptmcauley Member Posts: 26 Arc User
Hi everyone!

As per the title. My human tactical officer is nearly Rear Admiral, Upper Half, and though I still have plenty of game content to get through, I want to start thinking about my next character.

I know he will be Caitian.

So, in your opinion, what class is better between Engineering and Science?

Cheers! :D

    Hi,

I would recommend the Engineering Officer career because you get some great defensive as well as offensive abilities and plenty of toys to play with, such as the Cover Shield which combined with the Caitian/Ferasan extra 75% jump height will allow you to get to locations many other players can not (this is simply for fun and not going to improve your combat ability).

Check out the Career Specific Abilities (click) for each career path.

I would also recommend taking the following traits.

    • Accurate

    • Pounce

    • Resilient

Lastly I would recommend commanding an Escort, but overall just some ideas for you to ponder.

    Eveybody is Caitian these days.

Perhaps you should choose something original. Become Deferi!

As an 'alien' species, you can create a Deferi. It's all on the website.

That's a good point! I do want a Caitian toon, but I hadn't considered creating a known race through the 'Alien' species - might look into Romulan... A defector obviously - trying to keep with the cannon ;)

    What excites you? :)

I'll be honest I have several of each, my tacticals remain my major characters as I love the pure damage dealing role, that said I enjoy my engineers as I can slap random turrets down, force field domes and mines to help protect my team, or I can take the fight to the enemy with equipment malfunctions and transphasic bombs (boom!). My science similarly lets me heal my comrades or to make the enemy cry like little girls with some awesome debuffing (try Tachyon harmonic and tell me I'm wrong...)

I dunno - I've always had a tactical officer, as it is the class that I'm instantly drawn to. I've never really explored other classes, so this will be my first time. I will make a third toon, it's just what class to pick first... Though after your help above I'm leaning more towards trying out the engineer first! :D

Engineer is a lot of fun. On the ground you can spam turrets to shred your enemies. In space you get the EPS power transfer and miracle worker, which in my opinion are 2 of the best abilities in the game.
