Mask energy isnt all that useless if you are willing to use it in a wierd way.. ^^
Having MES III on a science ship was my way of 'decloaking' in ker'ret near a BoP to feed him lots of sci-heavy carnage.
To get this effect you have to have multiplie sci boffs ^^, have aux pretty high, and change your MESIII boff for a more aggresive boff when you are ready
Surprise with a target engine/shield, tyken rift, tractor beam, (subnuke if necessary) and photon shockwave them ^^ (but then again now since PSIII got neutered... meh)
Of course this is best used on inexperianced KDF players, but still fun to play with :P
edit: forgot to add my personal 'pointless skill'

'I am a smooshy tactical captain, target me please!' ah.. i died, how unexpected

That or abandon ship,
[Combat (Self)] Your Bite deals 2378 (1475) Physical Damage(Critical) to Spawnmother.
Photonic Fleet is nice to get a little bit of extra DPS, and to TRIBBLE with carriers. Abandon ship is a good "I'M TAKING YOU WITH ME PUNK!!!" ability (keybinds help with this one).
Beam Overload however, has no... practical... use... at... all.

I beg to differ. Just use it right before your target's shields go down. With any luck the beam will impact the hull.
That mask energy signature thing (also called the "poor man's cloak") is almost useless to me. About the only time it worked for me was in that one mission where I had to scan a mineral amidst a lot of enemies. Got the scan done as it went down and got blown up soon afterwards...
*sings* "I like Gammera! He's so neat!!! He is full of turtle meat!!!"
"Hah! You are doomed! You're only armed with that pathetic excuse for a musical instrument!!!" *the Savage Beast moments before Lonnehart the Bard used music to soothe him... then beat him to death with his Fat Lute*

Not sure if serious....
Beam Overload III combined with Purple Dual Beam Array is like having the Death Star laser. I can normally take out a shield facing or do 15K in hull damage without critting.

I had forgotten about those. Most ships don't use dual beam arrays anyway. :P With beam banks it is very useless.
Back on topic... Emergency Power to Engines is not that great, Auxiliary to Dampeners+ Evasive Manoeuvres does much better.
Boarding Party is really cool, but there are so many counters to it is not worth it.

I'm the same way. i have BO2 and I use it as an opening move. I can chew through a lot of shielding with it.
And I love my Photonic fleet, even if it is just in the "OH!!! DISTRACTION!" sense :P I tend to save it up until I get to 50% health, then I throw down my Fleet support, Photonic Fleet, and then I high tail it out of there. Distracts some players, they have to play shell game with the ships, and it scares the TRIBBLE out of noobs in kerrat

Then, the most ships are equipped wrong. Even on a Cruiser I would use one forward slot for 1 DBB.
BO III combined with an alpha strike can be overkill. BO is even much more better then CRF in PvP where you rely on burst damage more than on constant damage.
TBRs (Tractor Beam Repulsors) various pulses, various distances various re-targeting and takes longer for torpedoes to reach ships in some cases. I've observed and noticed with the same person clicking it all the time can make the game last longer.... yep fun fun. Only useful use they have is when you're tractored and things might explode on top of you if you don't thus saving 30-60 seconds at best of having to respawn.

its actually one of the most useful things when you are in a pug for some elite stf. with that power, you can push back the spheres in infected, the assimilated klingon ships from the kang and in KA, you can push back the probes. saved a lot of stfs for me
centersolace, you've obviously never used BO with a dual beam bank on a cloaked ship. I can just line up, activate a bunch of abilities, decloak, and fire. Over 30k damage easy. BO can be absolutely devastating when used properly, so you might want to try it out before saying it's useless. On the other hand, abandon ship and ramming speed are useless since we can't set a timer or lock onto a ship. I mean come on, how do you miss a ship?

I guess if used right it's cool. I've just experienced a lot of inexperienced users using them or figuring them out x.x I guess.
Ground: Sweeping Strikes. We can already melee, dammit!
Space: Photonic Fleet. Nothing but fake ships.
Sweeping strikes is the most powerful melee move you can use. You're far more damaging with it with NO WEAPON equipped than with the most damaging sword/bat'leth.
Its so good because it can be spammed since it has no timer, is 360 aoe and can knock back targets.
Photonic fleet increases in effectiveness based on capt. skills. Read the description of it and you'll see.

I agree with abandon ship. For me its pointless because most deaths are so fast there just isnt time to react. If I could not click a heal fast enough how can I click abandon ship fast enough?
Beam Overload is a VERY good ability. Perhaps one of the most powerful available. Hint: You combine it with another set ability and with a certain ship setup and its just brutal.
Personally the most useless ability in my opinion is directed energy modulation.
Yes, it is good on paper but in practical use its just silly. The bleedthrough damage is so small that normal ship crew repair under combat fixes the damage...and PVE npc's have SO MUCH hull that its like trying to cut through a solid lead pole with a kitchen knife.

"I do not like Green BoPs. They are annoying and make me wheeze. I will not fly one with a goat, I will not fly one with a coat. I do not like BoP's and ham, I do not like them Sam-I-Am." :P
I do not like the ships they are useful on, therefore, I have little use for the ability. It's not ignorance at all.

Aceton Beam isn't good for damaging an enemy, but it's awesome for keeping an enemy from damaging you. It reduces their energy weapon damage by at least 50% (for AB1). It's great for boss fights.

Yeah this. The fact that it does some DoT is a bonus, the main reason you roll with one is for tanking. Debuffing their energy weapons damage gives you some time to heal up and let cool downs happen.
Is an integral part of how I can single handily tank an elite tac cube in a cruiser and not die.
My vote is Mask Energy Signature.. Complete waste of a boff slot for a half TRIBBLE cloak that a half blind escort can see.
In PvE it's near useless. In PvP? It's a poorman cloak. Without some skill in stealth your very likely to be seen very far out. About 5Km +/- 1Km is the range I get spotted. Which is to say, I'm likely already uncloaked and firing. That's not why I use it though.
The not getting spotted part is nice, but the +30-50% defense is very nice when a escort tries swooping in.

Abandon Ship is just horrid. Really. But at least it's not one of these powers.

Are you kidding? I'd kill for Launch Crew. And during.
But why airlocks? We do have Torpedo Tubes, afterall.
Because, yes, please intentionally disable my aux power and any sci skills I may have.
Mm, no.

The best starbase defense and No Win's I've been on have at least 2 people who know how to use repulsors well.
Seriously, in No Win some NPCs will park their ships square on the transport until they blow up.
