Ok guys don't rip me apart. I am really interested in this question. I am not interested in PvP myself but i want to know this.
My question is this What type of content qualifies for PvP content?
IMO PvP is just shooting down other players. More content then would mean getting more players into PvP. You can't have a storyline that can be played in a PvP situation. Kerrat shows this as a prime example. You go in to deal with the storyline of the borg but you can't get anything done because the PvPers, shoot you down before you can do anything, again this is just my opinion.
I left a game to come here because there was no content except 100% free range PvP. You could be trying to get enough fuel to get back to the outpost, or buy some ammo, and someone would see you and come at you and blow you up without you having even fired a single shot at them.
So my question to all of you PvPers is What qualifies as content? Is Content equal to brand new empty maps just to go shoot people?
What gives? I am looking for information not trying to flame or troll.
new maps, new game modes, intensive balance passes with our feedback instead of just bug fixes, introducing something new that doesn't harm pvp, introducing new ships wile keeping in mind that they are going to actually be used in pvp, stuff like that.
New Maps
New Map Play styles and Objectives
Any ship introduced to the game can count as PVP Content since it can be used in PVP.
Any Ship or Character based Equipment that can be used in combat can be considered PVP Content if it can be used in PVP as well as PVE. (Consumable Devices, Weapons (Fore and Aft, as well as Ground based weapons) Deflectors, Shields, Personal Shields, Personal Armor, Kits, Devices (Tribbles, etc) Consoles (Tac, Sci, Eng, Universal)
Any new Ship or Ground ability that gets introduced can affect PVP weither it comes from a Ship Specific Ability/Console, or from a Racial trait.
Anything that enhances or affects Combat, weither on the ground or in space can be considered Content for PVP if the change also effects combat in some way.
Doffs can be considered content if they are equipable and don't effect only specific non Player Races/Ship types.
Anything else that affects either how you, your team mates, or your enemies are effected in combat can be considered content. (Skills for example effect many aspects of PVP)
A leaderboard to track results of PVP can be considered Content.
Typically when asked for new Content, most PVPers that I have communicated with have agreed that we need more Maps and more ways to PVP in general, as well as perhaps some ways to improve the Pvp experience as a whole with out requireing us to have to rely on the Z store for those improvements as our only source of such content.
(For example, if they offered new PVP Maps, but you had to pay 5,000 zen to unlock access to that map, it would probobly turn off people that don't want to spend the money just to have a new place to play, but at the same time would probobly get unlocked eventually because it would be new content that is desired)
You think that your beta test was bad?
Think about this: American Football has been in open beta for 144 years. ~Kotaku
Primarily, it's new maps and places to PvP that seem to be desired the most, at least for now. 1-2 more open PvP zones like Ker'rat would be nice (maybe maps that have lots of floating hulks and gas clouds, to make things a little more interesting). More maps for the arenas and capture-and-hold, etc. Maybe more PvP-oriented missions, and more lucrative rewards for arena/capture-and-hold.
My PvP toon is Krov, of The House of Snoo. Beware of my Hegh'ta of doom.
Out of curiosity what game was it you say you left? I might want to have a look at it.
I don't know about anything in response to your question, sorry but I do have a related question:
Does anyone know if there will be additions to PvP of a more open type such as an area of space that fleets can compete over and conquer. Basically something where the combat isn't just warping to a completely disconnected fight with no meaning to anything what so ever. Examples of games with this would be: Age of Conan (I suppose, sorry can't think of a better example off the top of my head but they do exist).
Sorry for sort of commandeering the thread, that isn't my intention.
STO PVP can be fantastic fun. Maybe I'm being unfair in that I've never played any other MMO to see what others have to offer. But we all know there's nothing quite like a good fair game where you can't tell which the winning team will be. It's great!
But I've only been PVPing for about 7-8 months now, that's not even half as much as others. And I'm already bored of the same few maps and gametypes. We know they make new space maps, look at the latest feature series. How hard would it be to tweek them a bit and throw them in circulation? Hell, don't even tweek them at all. Put them in at the same time as PVP Fleet Marks and do a Season 6 Dev announcement about it to draw in some interest.
Bit of a toss-up between new maps and balance checks.

Out of those, 1 map (Solar Wind) is unplayable for a lot of people because of the massive lag it causes.
It seriously can't be that hard to code in spawn points on a map and throw it into the queues; new PvE maps are churned out all the time, and they've got spawn points on them. Just add a few more, add the code (copy/paste) to ensure that you spawn at a random point (to stop spawn camping) and you're done.
We're coming up on the 3 year mark for STO in a few months. The fact that there hasn't been a single map added to PvP is a complete shame - especially considering, on average, PvPers seem to spend more than PvEers in the C-Store.
"Cryptic Studio’s Jack Emmert (2010): Microtransactions are the biggest bunch of nonsense. I like paying one fee and not worrying about it – like my cellphone. The world’s biggest MMO isn’t item based, even though the black market item GDP is bigger than Russia … microtransactions make me want to die.”
PvP has been woefully negleted since the beginning. We all want new maps & gameplay types. We all want new open PvP areas. I remember a while back there was talk of a new open PvP, FvK area where Feds defended freighters while KDF attacked them. What happened to that? That would've been awesome, but alas, Cryptic again dropped the ball.
We NEED NEW MAPS, even existing maps like the Vault interior & even exterior, or the Operation Gamma map with the Swarmers would be great. They're already in the game, just some respawn points & away we go. Keep the swarmers, nebulas, & Romulan patrols on there as eviromental hazards (this will breed new tactics & interest).
New gameplay like King of the Hill would also reinvigorate interest in PvP again.
Undo, or reevaluate the Sci nerfs. We need more Sci Captains, I'm lonely...
And for the sake of all things shatner, ADD A LEADERBOARD. People may complain about people becoming "too competitive", but this is PvP. Its SUPPOSED to be competitive.
Thats my 2 cents
I like my Sci guy & I like my Sci ship & that's that.

Ha, we BoP pilots would make mincemeat of that kind of freighter defense PVP :P

By new content we mean maps and new pvp style. For exampe think An asteroid field that is the whole map, so that you have to steer left, right, up and down to avoid them, asteroids could break contact with your target and also be used as cover. The maps we have already have those, but they can be easily avoided and most players avoid them and go all way up the map for their pew pew. I mean we could have a map where you can't avoid them and you need to fight under those conditions.
Different pvp scenarios such as capture the base - which would be more territory control. It would be a variation of existing c&h, where you should hold 2 points simultaneously for 1 minute. You do that and get some points (fleet marks, pvp emblems etc). Or you get a kill, you get other points.
We also need some premade vs premade queues, where highly skilled teams confront eachother. Regular queues (pug only queue) where same fleet players won't be allowed to team up. 1-1 queues would be also nice. Add some npcs in there for more fun. Even the discussed kling sorties would be a nice idea, that was roumored to go live a year ago but never happened.
Right now, all pvp is, as op said, a savage skirmish of 2 teams, no matter how you take it. And indeed, it gets a little tired to do same thing over and over. But still better than keep killing stupid dps npc sponges.

and they actually made it to tribble where it was discovered that both the attacker and the defender spawned at the same point.
another massive failure on their end for the pvp community.
Lol, yea, seems to be the default behavior for open pvp @ cryptic...
Edit: spawn point seem to be a big deal for cryptic, and I don't see why. It seems their system is hard to modify to respawn factions in different sides. And since we mention sorties, why can't they make that open pvp now? Seems some work has been done, I wonder why don't they re-work the code and make that happen?

Right, sorties, remember they were roumored to be made open pvp with season 4?
I remember. I also remember there being complaints becuase some found it unfair when the KDF could cloak and others complained that the feds could too easily outnumber the klinks.
Maybe the Devs gave up because they could not make evryone happy?

i distinctly remember the majority of people complaining that they spawned at the same point.... ah well....
id be happy just getting a modified space assault map/mode like we used to have.
1. A map for PvP @ Warp Speeds in sector space. MES and Cloak capabilities while warping.
2. Arena style maps for when Warp Speed maps drop out of warp.
3. Hit and run maps for sector and system space.
4. Competative resource gathering maps in system space and deep space (eg asteroid belts).
5. Raiding maps in systems.
6. Raiding maps in stations.
7. Raiding maps on planets.
8. The ability to create custom PvP maps via Foundry.
9. Semi yearly tourneys for individual and team rankings w/accolades and trophies for the winners.
10. Ability to form unique politcal alliances w/other fleets.
11. Ability of fleets to be unrestricted by characters' factions.
12. Diplomatic/coersive interaction w/NPCs and their resources. Eg fleet A agrees to protection for X amount of resources. Fleet B destroys enough NPC ships, that Fleet A agreement is voided. So, Fleet B then offers protection or threat of destruction.
In general contested maps should be designed for a different playstyle for each map. For example, raiding maps should favor escort/raider ships as the attackers where raiding a system w/a starbase should favor more DoT sturdy ships like carriers/cruisers as attackers.
In the end there's a lot of ways to add to the PvP and even do it piece meal. I just don't see the current mgt doing it as they have consistantly done the opposite.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. ADD FLEET MARKS TO PvP!!!
They don't have to be a lot, due to cooldowns. But PvP is a FLEET activity, many times, so it makes sense to be able to earn FLEET Marks, doesn't it?
