Maelstrom Costume/Other Costumes

daikaiju973daikaiju973 Member Posts: 7 Arc User
So I just realized today that the Maelstrom class, among others is no longer available in the store. Is it still available in game in some form? Or have these ship costumes ceased to exist within the game?

All the C-Store ship costumes were removed by Cryptic and now they are only available if you buy the fleet ship relevant to the skin. The maelstrom for example is on the fleet patrol escort so if you want that skin you need to buy the fleet patrol escort.

As there currently is no fleet assault cruiser, the imperial skin is at this time not available.

Well how lame -_-, thanks for your help though.

Just so you're clear, ship costumes are no longer account-wide unlocks costing 500 zen.

    They're now per-character unlocks costing 2000 zen.

The costumes are no longer available as account unlocks on the c-store.

If you owned one of the costumes before they were removed, you can still access it.

The costumes can now only be obtained by purchasing the appropriate fleet ship.

As to whether or not they are account wide or per character like the fleet ship they came on, I do not know. I did a search of the forums, had a read of the old dev blogs on fleet ships.... bottom line is that I don't know for sure.

It would be nice to get solid confirmation though either from a dev or rep or someone who bought a fleet ship who never had the skin to start with.

Am curious, but what would happen to a purchased skin if it had been purchased before this little change? Does said person lose that skin, do they get a reduced fleet cost, or doesn't it effect them?

Indeed, lame it is, they've thought of another devious way to extract money from us.

As was just answered in the post right above yours, you still have access to the Skin. No one loses anything they previously purchased. It's just new people who can only get the Skins by buying the Fleet ships.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Yeah, I missed that, but thanks anyway. :)

Maybe not losing them, but the whole thing is still glitchy. There have been reports of several players not being able to access the skins they bought before S6.

Just enough players affected that they are keeping it a low priority fix.

I think those reports have more to do with the fact that people don't know where to find them: they assume the Skin choice is on the standard tab on the left side along with the base 3 ship skins choices. The fact that the Skins need to be accessed under the Advanced settings, and on a per-section basis, is a complaint I have had about them since they were initially released into the game 2 years ago.

That's not entirely fair. Players are also paying for the various advantages Fleet ships offer, including extra consoles, buffed stats, and the exclusive "Fleet" material option.

Is the price still too high for a per-character unlock?

Yes. But if you only care about unlocking it for the skin and not the stats and feel whiny about that, that's your problem.

To be fair, I think that's what this topic is about: just wanting the skin. Some players aren't part of the sort of fleets that will have ready access to fleet ships for the foreseeable future. Now the *only* way to reskin a ship is to spend a lot of Zen on fleet modules.

The change also wasn't relayed to the playerbase in the normal fashion (I never read any announcement or even forum post about it until this thread). To me, that seems disingenuous.

I don't care how long you've been playing. I only care about how you play.
And remember to follow the rules.

It was announced in a single, easy-to-miss line hidden in the middle of a (long) blog post about Fleet Ships about a week after Season 6 was released.

If you don't read the news posts, that's your problem, not Cryptic's. They're not obligated to continually broadcast every bit of information. You don't see patch notes popping up in-game, right?

Though yes, it was kind of nasty that they didn't put up that Fleet Ship explanation immediately after (or before) Season 6 launched.

Thing is, it wasn't even in the patch notes, which people DO read. Or even as an announcement, which we have no excuse not to read.

It was in a blog posting. In fact, that particular blog posting isn't listed in the News Archives at all.

Here is the blog post. You'll have to scroll down to the bullet point titled "Fleet Ships" and look for the two sentences pointing this out. 64 words out of a 1,269-word article.

That's all the "announcement" they made.
