STO mobile gaming

Not sure this is the right place for this question so just bear with me. I would very much like to play this game on my alienware m11x at work when I have some downtime. Are any of you guys/gals playing this while being mobile? If so, then what broadband providers are using? I've been doing a lot of research on subject but still can't decide if this venture is even feasible. If it is, any knowledge you could pass along would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I can play fine with my 4g phone as a tether. Loading times can be a bit annoying but nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't even know how to go about doing that. I've got an LG Thrill.

You play STO with a 4G phone? How much data are you using?

I'll on occasion tether my Verizon BB Bold to it with zero lag issues (3G data). Works out to about 100MB/hour

Check your plan, you may have unlimited data, but HIGHLY unlikely (by highly unlikely I mean basically impossible) that you have unlimited tethering. I have a grandfathered unlimited data plan but a 5g limit on tethering.

I've done this over my iPhone's 3G connection on 3 Mobile in the UK - it works well assuming I've got a decent signal :)

I downloaded an app to bypass the tethering block. Though it doesnt let me bypass the lock on making the phone a hotspot.

When my desktop CPU fan stopped and there was some melting involved I had to use my old laptop to play. I tried when I went out to use my phone tethered and it worked great. It was a little slow when it was patching new maps (took between 30sec and 2 mins) but after they had been done everything else worked perfectly without any lag or rubber banding. I was also only able to pick up a 3.5G half strength signal.

I'd recommend you just pick the cheapest provider that gives a few gig's a month and not worry to much about the speeds they claim as it looked to me that STO will work with any internet that's faster than the old dial-up.

I'd have to disagree with that. Folks here have discussed the amount of traffic STO makes and it;s supposed to be a lot more than most MMOs.

I;ve not paid attention myself but I just wanted to throw that out there.

Well I have horrible internet, via HughesNet. Comes thru the dish. I get less than 1 Mbps download, and normally, I can play STO just fine. Verizon 4g is more than 16x faster so...
