What do the numbers mean in combat chat when fighting in space.

It will show two numbers, something like this:

500 (1000)

What does the first number mean, and what does the number between parenthesis mean ?

    I'm fairly certain that the larger number in parentheses is shield damage, while the other number is hull damage bleeding through the shields.

    I'd love a button on the Combot Logs to see highest damage to you by enemy and highest damage to you to enemy.

    As far as i know, that means 500 damage was done to the target from a 1000 raw damage shot.
    ie: 50% mitigation (mitigation via shields and hull/shield resists etc)
