Tour the Galaxy

Is it me or has the Tour the Galaxy changed in the reward you get? You get 50K per sector block. But I only seem to get 50K whenever I complete a particular race, i.e. the three Federation sector blocks. Bug, change or something I'm missing?

Sorry, there been no change. It's always been 50,000 EC per Sector Block for Vice Admirals, since it was in F2P Testing.

So I should get 50K for doing both the Sirius Sector Block and the Regulus Sector Block and the Pi Canis Sector Block, all of which are Federation? I'm sure I was only getting rewarded for completing the three.

You only get rewarded once for doing Federation space. The areas are:

    Federation (Sirius, Regulus, Pi Canis)
    Klingon (Eta Eridani)
Romulan (Alpha Centauri, Iota Pavonis, Pi Canis)
Cardassian (Beta Ursae, Alpha Trianguli, Zeta Andromadae)
    Deferi (Orellius)
    Borg (Gamma Orionis)
    Undine (Pelia)

Klingons do Omega Leonis instead of Sirius.

Seven areas, for a total reward of 350k per lap. I don't know if things used to be different before ftp, but they have been like this ever since.

Hmmm... that was the conclusion I was coming to... but I find it bad that the reward is described as for each 'Sector Block' when it's really 'each group of Sector Blocks'. :S

are you going through every single sector in a sector block? you can only get the 50k for every "fully explored" sector block.

No, you get 50k for every fully explored "[race] space" area.

So 50k for all Federation sectors, 50k for all Borg sectors, 50k for all Romulan sectors, etc.

That's absolutely 100% what happens now. I believe it was different in the past.

It was different in the past, we used to get a lot more EC from it.

I recall it being like that recently... though I could be wrong... :)

The only thing that changed with the Tour the Galaxy was the event stopping at the top of the hour during F2P Beta, the frequency of the Tour the Galaxy race from every 4 hours, to every 8 hours, then 10 hours. But the EC you earned has been consistant since F2P Beta.

I know, I ran in almost every race since F2P Beta, up til a month ago after maxing all 6 characters.

Now I'm really confused. You say it's 50k per sector block, of which there are 11 (550k total per lap). However when I run it, I get 50k per race zone, of which there are 7 (350k total per lap). It's been every sector block since F2P Beta, yet it's every race zone now. So what are you all saying? The lack of precision here is astonishing.

Not sure where you are getting 11 Sector Blocks from:

    1) Sirius / Regulus / Pi Canis (Or Omega Leonis for KDF)
    2) Eta
    3) Orellious
    4) Cardassian (Beta, Alpha, Zeta)
    5) Romulan (Alpha, Psi Vel, Iota)
    6) Gamma Orionis
    7) Pelia

7 Sectors - 50,000 EC each per lap.

    It's always been that way.

Azurian, what you just listed are territories held by races. Note the color blocks on the Galaxy Map.

Sirus sector block contains the Vulcan, Orion and Risa sectors. Together, the Sirius, Regulus and Pi Canis sector blocks comprise Federation space, much like the Iota Pavonis, Alpha Centauri and Psi Velorum sector blocks make up Romulan space.

It seems like the quest text never got updated after they changed intent from getting a lesser reward at each sector block to getting a larger reward when completing a racial space area. Either that, or they need a proof reader who understands the game concepts better.

It's one reason I always try to hit Romulan space last, because then I can get the single sector block races (Borg, Undine, Deferi, Klingon) done and cashed in.

    And your point is?

I ran the event recently, and it's the same as it was when it was in F2P Beta. 50,000 EC / 50 Exploration / 40 Trade per Sector Block. And there are 7 Sectors Blocks to get rewards in.

    Nothing has changed.

You're right, nothing has changed. But given the wording of the event mission, the original poster can be forgiven for thinking it may have. Not all of us have been playing since beta.

My point was that the event quest uses an in-game term to mean something other than that term generally means in-game. Sirius sector block is a sector block, which has an in-game definition. The Tour the Universe mission states in plain English:
For each Sector Block you visit, you will be rewarded.
But you don't get a reward for visiting Sirius sector block, you get a reward for visiting all of Sirius, Regulus and Pi Canis sector blocks, which collection of sector blocks is listed in the mission under "Federation Space".

I always hit the romulan space first after leaving earth then I make my way clock wise from romulan space down through Canius through to Eta on to deferi space. From deferi space I go to cardassian space then I hit the federation space (two blocks in Sirius and three in regulus) then I transwarp to gamma to do the borg space and then fluid space last. Head back to earth accept mission again and repeat. Ive done it like this two times so far since I started doing Tour the Universe again and I plan on doing it like this again later today.

The thing to remember is to make sure you have the time cause even with a fast ship you cut it close if you try to do it twice. Have to take into account the long load time for ESD during the Tour the Universe event.

As far as the wording goes, I think what they are trying to say is you get rewarded for visiting each sector block but you dont get the rewards till you complete the whole sector for a given faction. Personally I would like to see it give you the EC for each sector block and when you do all sector blocks in a given faction`s sector it adds up to 50,000 EC. That way for those of us that cut it close and the mission ends before we complete a sector we still get something out of it for our time.

I just wish they would have it up more often cause I dropped 700,000 EC on a console box off the exchange and doing tour the universe twice paid for that. But then I dropped 250,000 EC for a Mirror cruiser, 290,000 EC for a Mirror assault cruiser and 299,999 EC for another mirror assault cruiser. Sure you can make a lot of EC from this and I hope that doesnt change but you cant get a large mass of EC built up if you are actively using it. I dropped 420,000 EC for replicating 350 warp coils at 1200 ec a piece. So I am glad for a event like Tour the Universe.

You're confusing "Sector" with "Sector Block". A Sector Block can be made up of anywhere from 1 to 3 Sectors. For instance, for a Fed the Federation Sector Block consists of Sirius Sector, Regulus Sector and Pi Canis Sector. The Klingon Sector block consists of only Eti Eridani Sector.

    See? :D
*STO* It’s mission: To destroy strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations... and then kill them, to boldly annihilate what no one has annihilated before!

Thanks for all the feedback... things make a lot more sense. It goes to show we don't always pay enough attention (read "I don't") when noticing what rewards we actually get... :D
