It's stupid to exchange a Purple doff all the way down for white doffs, right?

fulleatherjacketfulleatherjacket Member Posts: 980 Arc User
A purple doff takes 125 white doffs under the officer exchange program:
(125 whites = 25 greens = 5 blues = 1 purple)

However, exchanging purple doffs down to whites yields only 27:
(1 purple = 3 blues = 9 greens = 27 whites)

So with that in mind, it looks like an enormous waste to downgrade a purple doff to anything past three blue doffs. If one has a few worthless purple doffs, 0ne might as well upgrade excess whites and greens up to blues, then downgrade the worthless purples and re-upgrade the blues to purples again.

The starbase doff purchasing system solves all my white doff needs anyway.

It is kind of a crummy trade off, I won't deny that, but at least we DO have it.

I'd rather have this, and be able to trade down crummy purples, like chefs, bartenders, etc, than to be forced to keep them, or sell them, or discard em. I would prefer a greater trade-off, true, but I don't want it to be any worse than what it is.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

    It isn't a problem.
If it's not profitable, don't do it.

Providing the option to do so, however, provides the important mechanic of a price floor, something any economy needs to remain stable.

Depends on the Doff. If I have a purple Refugee, then I have no problem trading them in.

The purple bartender stays, though. :D

Except you can get free repeatable purples from the Support Colonization missions and run this over and over for no actual cost.

Doesn't happen that often in KDF side despite having 34% critical chance. Not sure about FED side though.

Well I have already broken down my 6th or 7th clone of a few of the purple support doffs. I didn't always get it all the way broken doff into whites because I ran out of roster space. Its hard finding the RIGHT white doffs. Am seeing a point about just downgrading to blues. Still its good to have the downgrader just for that.

Another thing I have been doing is grinding 5 useless civilian whites, then ungrinding and trying to get at least two out of three white doffs that can be starbase-meat.

Another good thing is to use the asylums for refugees and whites for exchange missions and get at least a green or blue, then downgrade back to whites (unless you get a good blue), and you turned one white doff into 3 or 9.

Opportunity cost is not actual cost.

Opportunity cost is, by definition, actual cost.

We are not accustomed to thinking of it as such, but anything that you could potentially have and choose to forfeit is in fact an actual loss vs profit.

You could have had it, but as a result of your choice, you do not, no different than if you had at some point and now do not. The duality of choice vs outcome remains the same.

"Opportunity cost" is basically a way of saying that you spent however much time getting something. that's time you spent that you can't spend getting something else.

    that's a great idea! I keep getting types I don't like

Opportunity cost refers to the opportunity itself and anything that could have been gained from it, not merely time. Time is one commodity amongst many.

Im getting flashbacks to my college Macroeconomics class.

He is right though. Opportunity cost is definitely real. You lose not only the time but also what you could have gotten with that time. I have run at least 10 of those support missions and have not gotten any purples despite always having at least 28% crit chance. And that is alot of time those purple doffs could have spent getting me contraband

28%? try 32..and if you are KDF then odds are not in your favor at all. Me thinks it is one of the ways of PWE/Cryptic to bend over KDF fraction like other things.
