If any devs are reading this and wondering why your people are willing to spend money to get into a Beta for another game and not your game, I will give you a hint.
It involves your Bargain Bin Developer mentality. It involves peeing in your communitys face when time and time again they reached out to help you.
It involves hiring ignoramus rpers for a pvpers job.
It involves a company that has done the exact opposite tack that you guys have in terms of community feedback, attitude, and dedication.
Mostly it involves #1 and #3.
That 20 dollars you almost got from me? Kiss it good bye. Not even the promise of how sexy and powerful the Fleet Vorcha is for tacs got me to spend money on you again. And that money is going to be funneled to another game tonight.
Good luck with your uniform pips. You're going to need them when your asia launch fails miserably.
After watching a few vids MWO seems to the the first MMO where I have though "hmm I wonder if the Hammer and Anvil deployment would be viable considering the function of the classes."
For those wondering what I am talking about it requires a line of heavy troops (assault mechs in this case) pinning the opposition in frontal assaults. They aren't meant to chase only to deal damage and keep the enemy engaged and stuck in a position (the Anvil), with more mobile yet heavy units (medium mechs) flank around to the back and pound them enemy from the rear (the Hammer). The stuff like the catapult providing heavy arms support from the rear on the enemy with the light scout mechs skirmishing the foe and trying to draw them into the main line.
The reason I say this because if any MMO ever had a system where this tried and true military doctrine can work it epitomizes balance. Because without balance this form of close arms support can NEVER work in an MMO.
EDIT: And yes this makes me want to play the game so friggen badly right now to even see if this is viable.

I can safely tell you there are maps that this works devastatingly well on, if your opponents get drawn into it.

The answer is yes to all of the above. Role warfare and strategy, are a big deal.

fleet vorcha is pretty damn cool, wish it was easier to slot EWP on it without giving up ether ET3 or A2S3 though. i think they have done a great deal of listening lately, at least borticus has and is putting in effort to fix issues we bring up, and whoever else works with him. of course if he was a veteran pvp'er he could do a better job, (thats why i applied to that systems position a few weeks ago) but in the mean time all we can do is try to give them good information without beating them over the head with it. to much negative from a certain group would make me not want to deal with that group.
he proboly has to twist some arms for them to give him the time to do those fixes and stuff, its generally low priority. shipped content usually is, just look at all the ship detail issues that have languished for years now. no body is asking for photo realistic quality, just a well shaped approximation.
that mech warrior game looks very well done, but ive never been particular into mechs like that. i am drawn to quality though and will proboly check it out. this is the only place to get a star trek fix, so im stuck here for the duration i think lol

Get your c-bill on.
Yeah it pretty much got settled with Mav's response. I will very soon be purchasing this game. I literally can't think of many MMO's that have accomplished balance like this. Teamplay sure, but role balance not so much, at least not in pvp. Because if role balance is a go then jesus the different military strategies that can be employed (and based on Mav terrain plays a role) makes the strategy involved for successful attacks and defense near infinite. And that is something very few MMO's have ever been able to pull off.

The surface has barely been scratched.
Mech Warfare ? The embodiment of Mech to Mech combat.
Role Warfare ? The ability for player's to customize their experience to suit their own style of gameplay.
Community Warfare ? The ability to let the players take part in epic combat for territorial control.
Information Warfare ? Bring a new element to the battlefield that incorporates information technology to help control the fight.
Any mech on the battlefield can provide guys carrying LRMs and streak missiles with weapon locks.
For example my Catapult, which has been renamed the Firebird, uses her pair of flamers to lock down an atlas by forcing overheats. I press R, and suddenly you who are virtually across the map, can bombard him artillery style with missiles while I keep him locked down and peppered with my pulse laser and ac5 secondaries.
You can also totally retweak and repurpose your mechs for different battlefield roles. My aforementioned Catapult for example has a larger engine, flamers, and a bunch of short range weapons. She's a walking engine, and flame thrower. She just absolutely shuts down enemy mechs, or at least keeps them from firing safely. I built her as a Missile Lock Scout, as well as Heavy weight interceptor.
I have an Atlas I built for similar purposes. (though I'm going to strip the armor off of it, if I don't get my own beta invite after I buy in tonight)
I'll be here. No way am I shelling out money on a new game at this point (even though MWO sounds sweet) and especially not on a PvP-oriented game when I don't pew-pew all that well.
I can handle an optional $15/mo on C-Points for a game that fits my casual gamer lifestyle in a way that MWO won't.
My views may not represent those of Cryptic Studios or Perfect World Entertainment. You can file a "forums and website" support ticket here Link: How to PM - Twitter @STOMod_Bluegeek

But you won't have to shell out cash at all for MWO.
I wanted a founders mech, and early access. That's why I paid :P
Also, I think you'd be better at mechwarrior than you think you would be. Movement takes some getting used to.
Is there a thread for MWO? I'd love to play with people from this community. I saw somebody named Major Fury last night and thought "Blackjack?"
Hammer and Anvil, yes. DFA, yes. And I'm pretty sure I can safely say that I think they got the feel (drop and leading) of ballistics really, really right. Gauss is satisfying.
Still... I kind of miss space... so any PvP revamp has a real chance to end my hiatus.
_______________ CommanderDonatra@Capt.Sisko: ahhh is it supposed to do that? Norvo Tigan@dontdrunkimshoot: hell ya, maybe
Mav has a post and I see he went and got the $60 pack and selected House Marik. Prompted me to actually look more into it and see the Federated Suns was basically Germanic in styling and not the Greek/Neo-classical I am more fascinated by.

signed up and reserved pilot name, also signed up for beta. i haven't played any old mech warrior game enough to remember what it was called, so i just randomly clicked one

That is me.....definitely a different type of game but as far as quality PVP goes I don't think STO is even close. Teamwork is very important in MWO but not in the classic I heal you up magically or tossing invulnerbility spells on each other. No, teamwork in MWO is more about covering the flanks of your team mate, providing long range support to the front line, reinforcing where the enemy is making a push or scouting for targets.
There is A LOT more they have planned to introduce to the game and I'm hoping that they follow through because if they do it's going to be great. If nothing else I would suggest dropping the minimum $30 to gain access to the Beta and giving it a look.
Nothing says loving like either delivering or watching your lancemate DFA some poor light.
Excellent. Look for me eventually as HalfBurntRoach.
Frankly I getting tired of being forced to swallow Cryptics BS about the KDF, PvP and seeing so many fedfans backing thier excuses like loyal lap dogs.
Well once I get in I hope to be rocking the Centurion. From what I have seen and read about it the thing is quite the versatile medium sized mech and it looks rather neat to boot.
