Looking For A Casual, Friendly, Starbase-Building Fleet That Enjoys Trek

Who Am I?

I'm a Lifetime subscriber (900+ days Vet) who's been playing since closed beta.

I've traditionally played solo, not from being anti-social, but from a desire to enjoy and immerse without having demands made on my game-time.

However, I really enjoy the Starbase-building, and would love to continue contributing to base projects in a Fleet not vulnerable to drama.

I'm not an active RPer, in the sense that I feel self-conscious role-playing in a group, but I am certainly a passive roleplayer, in that I enjoy the "Trek 2409 vibe" of STO, and I do my best to preserve that essential Star Trek-ishness in my characters and my playstyle.

If I'm a fit for your Fleet, you will be receiving a friendly player, with a VA character in each division, who is more than willing to commit to Starbase building projects.

What Kind of Fleet Do I Hope To Find?

+You don't like drama or politics either.

I realize that every Fleet will /have/ potential drama crop up, but my idea of a good Fleet realizes that drama is anti-fun and takes steps to sort it out immediately.

+You don't want to play my character for me.

I'm an adult, with a real life. I play Star Trek to have fun and to immerse. If your Fleet has highly-structured play requirements, I'm not your guy.

I will come in, be friendly, and help as much as I can to get the base built as quickly as possible, so that everyone can enjoy using it.

If you've got "checking in" requirements (so many hours per week); or some sort of strict uniform code (my uniform designs are /very/ Trek); you insist that I change my Forum avatar; or insist that I use Voice Chat (I can't), then you don't want me.

Basically, I don't need a second job, and I'm not here to be arbitrarily told what to do. I'm very co-operative and friendly, but I dislike being ordered about.

+You love Star Trek Online and the various forms of Star Trek.

Like me, you want to preserve the general Star Trek feel of the gameplay. You're not a Fleet of Timelords from Gallifrey, or dimension-lost Drow Elves. Your Fleet isn't called Spock's Brain or The Cheeseburger Cat Inc. or Murder Angels From Hell. You're here for the Trek vibe, just like me.

I also find that I'm not keen on the ultra-militaristic and/or hardcore Fleets. My main is a non-Med Science captain. I don't belong in those Fleets.

+Lastly, your Fleet is neither too big nor too small.

Big fleets tend to have more problems with drama, and while an active small Fleet is great, a small Fleet where only two or three members are actually working on the base can feel like a depressing, endless grind with no progress in sight.

I'll Shut Up Now

I apologize for the long post, but after leaving my last Fleet, I guess it's important to me to not get burned a second time, so I'm being as clear as possible.

If no one has an interest in me, but other players feel what I'm saying, as a last resort, I could found a Fleet. I don't want the work (I've run guilds before) but I would really like to help build a Starbase out on the Federation-Klingon-Tholian border.

Thanks for your patience,

KFS

    Greetings!

I am sad reading this quote:
Like me, you want to preserve the general Star Trek feel of the gameplay. You're not a Fleet of Timelords from Gallifrey ...

Then we're definitely not for you! :P
+Lastly, your Fleet is neither too big nor too small.

Well, our active core - more than 15 registered members - spans from Europe to the Western US and there are some enlisted "play-only" as well .. so we might be just the size you look for.

If you're really bothered by our name, then forgive me bringing our Fleet to your attention. If not, we're more than happy to answer your questions and provide you with info about us.

Have look at our thread here: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=321711

And take your time, if interested, to make "first contact" with us here: http://timelordsfleet.webs.com/

I would like to recommend Federation Reborn, but I am afraid you might find us to be smaller and less active than you would like. Some of our members are very active, some haven't logged in for months.

Other than that, I believe we fit the profile. We're interested in building our starbase, but we're not pressuring anybody. It's actually against our fleet principles to impose the kinds of restrictions you're referring to.

Even if you don't join us, feel free to hang out on our forums as a "visiting diplomat". Maybe you'll give us a second look if things don't work out.

Just to reiterate what rdm1958 said, he's right when he says thinks you'd make a good fit in the 44th.
+You don't like drama or politics either.

I realize that every Fleet will /have/ potential drama crop up, but my idea of a good Fleet realizes that drama is anti-fun and takes steps to sort it out immediately.

    We do our best.
+You don't want to play my character for me.

You can play what you like. We do occasionally have official fleet events, but participation is always optional.
If you've got "checking in" requirements (so many hours per week); or some sort of strict uniform code (my uniform designs are /very/ Trek); you insist that I change my Forum avatar; or insist that I use Voice Chat (I can't), then you don't want me.

No 'check in' requirements (although we do look to see if you've logged in in the past month in order to give promotions). If you haven't logged in, no big deal. You can still maintain your membership.

We do have Teamspeak server, but it is not required. Some don't have a mic, and will only 'listen in' on the teamspeak. Helps if running STFs and such.

We have a 'fleet uniform' available, but there is no requirement that you wear it.
Basically, I don't need a second job, and I'm not here to be arbitrarily told what to do. I'm very co-operative and friendly, but I dislike being ordered about.

    No orders. No saluting.

A somewhat boring numbered fleet name. But, hey, it's cannon.
+Lastly, your Fleet is neither too big nor too small.

Big fleets tend to have more problems with drama, and while an active small Fleet is great, a small Fleet where only two or three members are actually working on the base can feel like a depressing, endless grind with no progress in sight.

We have about 30 active members. Personally, I think we are close to the 'sweet spot' for the fleet progression system.

Thank you to everyone who answered my post. I think I've found a Fleet which works for me, and I wish all those Fleets who so generously offered me a place all strength and success in the universe of STO.

    Cheers,

OK, I'm going to reply, even though we may be on the fence about a couple of issues.

I represent the {UFP}, which <ahem> IS a large fleet. Before you move to the next post, please read this entire post. After all, I read yours, so it's only polite! <g>

For a large fleet, we have relatively little drama. I doubt any fleet has NO drama, and I think we handle ours well when it arises.

We do have a "check in" requirement, but it is about as minimal as you can get. You must check in once a month and sign roll call at the website. That takes all of 90 seconds. You must also log into your character in-game at least once every 90 days.

There's a reason for that. We do not want to have spots taken up by idle captains, nor do we want members on the roll who have abandoned the game or the fleet. It's simple logistics and it's pretty important if you're trying to keep an active, progressive fleet.

To become a full member, both in-fleet and in-game, will take about 2 hours of effort, total. There's the quick application and then an entrance exam (which is a piece of cake). Once you have completed both, and spend 90 seconds signing in the first of week of each month, you have met our time requirements.

How involved, how much you play, what roles you take within the fleet, are all up to you. We have players who are chronically addicted to the game and we have players who get in a few hours here and there... and everything in between. We like it that way.

Did you mention starbases? We are constructing a main fleet starbase, an alt-fleet starbase and a Klingon fleet starbase. We could use your help with any of them or all three if you choose.

Uniforms. Yes, we have a fleet uniform, and we require you to wear it ONLY when we are making a fleet photo. The rest of the time you are free to wear whatever uniform you like. I wear everything from the Enterprise to the TOS to a Jupiter Veterans uniform, and even the STF uniform at times.

As far as the "friendly" part goes, I think that you'll fit right in with most of us. Sure, in any large group there are a couple of sticks in the mud. Just watch your step and walk around them so you don't get mud on your shiny fleet shoes.

Look, all I'm asking is for you to spend 10 minutes at our website and see what we're all about. After that, if you are not satisfied we are the fleet for you, there will be no hard feelings. We're easy to find. Just go to ufplanets.com and check it out. You can get there by clicking my siggy. Hope to see you in-game soon.
