I don't frequent the forums so I may be beating a dead horse BUT...

1. Star Trek fans want to be Captains, not Admirals.
2. Admirals command large areas/fleets, not individual starships

SO

1. Level 40-50 should be Captain rather than Admiral (career progression Lt, j.g., Lt, LtCmdr, Cmdr, Captain instead)
2. Use Admiral titles as an incentive for Fleet play (i.e. If you form a fleet, you get to be a Rear Admiral lower half. If your fleet gets big enough, you become a Rear admiral Upper half, etc. Say your fleet reaches x ships, others in the fleet can be appointed to rear admiral lower half, etc as the senior leader moves up and the fleet size grows)

THUS

1. Admirals are actually in charge of something
2. Being in the admiralty means something
3. Casual players get to be the Captains they want to be
4. This makes more sense militarily and in the context of cannon

Note: All Senior Captains and Admirals would be "capped" at level 50 but there is no reason why additional incentives/little perks can't be given to the Admiralty who are making an effort to build/grow their community. These Admirals would actually be community leaders whereas Captains would be the more casual player.

I too would rather be Captain 50, than a Vice admiral 50. They already show you your level so it is only a title change. I really hope they do this at some point. I hate being called Admiral.

I wouldn't mind being an admiral so much if I could put promote my Boff's to Captain and I could assign them to other ships in my inventory. Admirals have the ability to call in other ships, but it would be much cooler if they were my old ships captained by Boff's I developed.

Plus, some missions have NPC ships you work with. How much cooler if at least some of the time they were your ships under your captains.

Speak for yourself. I'm a bigger fan than most people. I've known Star Tek since back when it was paper mache graphics. I'm fine with the ranks the way they are? You want to be a captain. Go change the rank on your character if you want it so bad. Don't try to turn the game up side down for other players to satisfy your fetish.

But what's going to happen when they raise the level cap?
We can't have hundreds of people having Fleet Admiral ranking. They need to introduce Lt. Jr, Commodore, and Fleet Captain ranking for the characters that hasn't already attain anything higher.

Lt. Jr commanding a ship? sorry but no way that could happen.

Also there is Commodore ... that is Rear Admiral, Lower Half as you could say it as its just 5 levels for Lower and Upper its pretty much Rear Admiral the fact is the rank is in the game.

Simply put, the rank=level in hindsight was perhaps a mistake, it would be better just leave it with general descriptions or none at all (nothing wrong with leaving it as Level I, Level II, etc ...) with rank progression would be handled in a separate way but that ship have sailed.

Why do they need to raise the level cap? This is a Free to play game they aren't going to try and sell us an expansion.

It's been "proven" in other MMOs that "completionists" will return to grind through everything in order to have it all. Therefore, upping the level cap will draw all these "completionists" back into the fold until they get to the new level. Meanwhile, PWE smiles all the way to the bank if even 10% of these people start investing in C-points...

My "argument" that this could happen:

    1. In the RL Navy, O3s can command smaller PT-boat or cutter sized ships, O4s get small Destroyers and PT flotillas, and O5s get the lighter cruisers or destroyer squadron commands...

    2. This is "wartime". As the tutorial "illustrates", Starfleet has shifted back into "merit based commands", in that those who demonstrate leadership get the ships. Remember the tutorial - Ensign Player, as the sole surviving commissioned officer during a Borg attack, successfully brings the hulk of the ship, with a majority of the enlisted crew, home. In recognition of the effort, Ensign player receives a two grade battlefield promotion to O3 Lt, gets fast tracked into the command program, and is assigned command of a "training" vessel.

If I were to propose a revision to the tutorial, in advance of a rank/level realignment, Ensign Player would only receive a one grade field promotion, to Lt Jg (O2), and is still "fast tracked" into the command school. Due to necessity of senior officers on the front, LtJg Player is given a command from the Academy (ie, the crew are mostly raw cadets), doing the "milk runs" of the Sirius / Alpha Cent blocks. Upon "graduation" from Command school (ie, Level 10), Player receives a promotion to full Lt., is given their own full command, and begins the "deeper" series of missions in the Klingon Neutral Zone.

At this point, the rank realignment kicks into full gear. The lower ranks stay on the "promote on the zeroes" system we have now, to finish the climb to captain, Lt Cmdr at 20, Cmdr at 30, Captain at 40 (instead of 40 being the introduction to the Admiralty). At this point, the progression can be "changed" to promoting on even zeroes, with the odd zeroes getting a recognition of some sort. My thought would be 50 = Fleet Captain (Commodore, still max out with Captain's pips), 60 = RA-LH, 70 = RA-LH, service ribbon, 80 = RA-UH, 90 = RA-UH, second service ribbon, 100=VA. Not sure how to handle the "don't touch my bars" club, yeah, we "earned" VA in a time where ranks were handed out like water, it could be a "provisional" rank (still allowing all the bars, etc.) but newer players (and those not at cap) will have a long climb to VA...

But they don't need to raise the level cap to add new content. They just need new content. Heck Tier 6 ships could easily be realized just by converting a Lt to a Lt.Com and the Ensign to a Lt on existing Tier 5 ships. But that doesn't mean a new wave of Tier 6 ships couldn't be released.

From the publisher's standpoint, the best situation is to do both.
    1. Raise the level cap, wait 2-3 months for the completionists to grind their characters to the new cap, possibly paying into the C-store for XP boosts and other stuff.
    2. Profit.
    3. Release Tier 6 ships, wait 1-2 months for the completionists to grind the dilithium or pay into the C-store to buy the new ships.
    4. Profit.
    5. Possible release some actual new content with associated C-store items, wait 2-3 months for completionists to grind through it and pay into the C-store again.
    6. Profit.
    7. Rinse.
    8. Repeat.

    Agreed,

If you raise the cap or have the cap stay at 50 but scale gear and new STF mob difficulty upwards by a lot, then you make all the current STF's obselete. On top of that, raising the cap means new content will take longer to develop. They will have to make sure that at the new level of 55 or 60, that PVP is still balanced. They will need to give people a way to level to the new cap, so now they have to make something for that. Then they have to make all new STF's which also will need to be balanced, and have new/different mechanics as the current STF's. And of course with all those new things there will come bugs, nerfing if a class becomes too OP, or buffing if a class isnt up to par with everyone else.

If they introduce new STF's, but keep the same level cap and just give us new mechanics to deal with then at least you dont make cure, infected and khitomer obselete, you can still play them if you want. It's just now you have a bigger selection of STF's to choose from. IMO if the game engine can handle it, then they should make the new STF's 10 mans (or at least make one of them a 10 man).

About the only problem i see with the above is by wanting to keep current STF's playable while introducing new ones, is that eventually your gear will need to have a cap. Either that or have gear keep scaling upwards, but the devs would have to fine tune all the level 50 content so that it doesnt become too easy.

I miss the LT JR Grade amoung my bridge officers. I agree that admirals command fleets and not a single ship. Militarily speaking the ST always had a little problem with "real military protocols" I was a naval alisted in a real navy and I think ST is like a "real" navy too. But this does not make this game less perfect. I am already adctived to it!:)

Like its already been said, why go through and change the game because a few people want captain to be the max rank?

There are ways around it, those ways have been given. You don't have to wear the admirals uniforms, rank insignia, or title.

Seriously, what does it matter anyway? You are flying your ship blowing things up left-right-and-centre. You can change your title to Captain if you like. There are bigger things to worry about.

I agree, I would rather be a Captain than the bloody Admiral. I mean, did they ever watch the shows? *Power to starbase Captain* etc it was not, *Power to starbase Admiral.*
or power to what ever. when I got to lvl 30 er rank wich ever you call it, and it said captain,
I thought, *oh it must stay that way* nope. welcome to rank Admiral.
    Don't gorn with me.

Personally, I wish they'd rip ranks out of the leveling system altogether and leave ranks/pips as unlocks at different milestones. We've been asking for this for years now, so I don't expect anything to change. Ever.

A simple Option in which you could choose how NPCs will address you would be better, as most NPCs don't have spoken lines anyway and foundry Missions have text only anyway.

    exactly what i do.

You can ignore your rank nearly completely during playing.
I'm in favour with a change to maxlvl of captain...but it is not necessary actually.

I have to agree. I CRINGE everytime I read "We need your help Admiral". On my characters I generally set "Captain" as the title, though that does not help me at all as I can't see it.

If I were doing it all from scratch, I would not have even had ranks. It would have been level one through fifty and you are always a captain, if you were in the leadership of a fleet, then you could be an admiral.

IIRC one of the Devs said this was possible some time ago, but I think it's rather low on their priority.

I kind of imagine that all of those 7 or so ships in m inventory are still out doing stuff, with my currently unused bridge officers either on board or in command, and that I as an Admiral have the option of freely assuming command of any of these ships at whim.

In that regard Admiral should be a title not a rank, and Fleet Admiral should be restricted to the person in charge of a particular fleet.

love that idea...if it would be possible to incorporate your unused ships into DOFF missions, to boost the completion time, or add some percentage towards critical success.
assigning a unused BOFF to each ship...giving the ship some extra bonus if it is used in a doff assignment.

Nice I like that idea of incorporating them ino Boff missions. Science could give +5% to science with the exception of those damn bubble ships giving +5% to medical, with Simmiliar stats associated with appropriate crafts.

Certain cruisers giving bonuses to either Engineering or Opperations, with the exception of the Dreadnought giving a bonus tactical.

I am on my iPad so cannot access the game so forget what the two tactical officer type missions are, but escorts would give bonus's to those. The cloaking Defiant would grant an extra +5% bonus on espionage.

An Oddyssey would give a bonus to the diplomatic missions you get from your first officer.

Maybe this rare drop box ships like the Tholians, Cardasian, and Jem Hadar ship give an extra 5% on top, I don't have any of them or care, just think their rarity should be reflected in this regard too.

I would also like to see fleet assignments which let you assign unused ships to star base patrols, but blocked you from switching to the for the duration of the assignment which should be at least 24 or 48 hrs. Bonus % ratings are based on the tier of the ship put on patrol duty and you can earn fleet marks for the mission.
