I did the space STFs for the first time ever tonight, got the Veteran Engine Requisition out of it. So I'm not burnt out at all :D

I didn't mean it like that! Just surprised is all. I've done the grind and I've been rewarded accordingly. I get e feeling a lot of you might quit because you haven't been rewarded. You can't just give up. You. Never know, your next run might give you what you always wanted! :)

I've gone through MANY runs that gave me nothing but garbage.

And even if you can't get the mrk XII stuff, everyone CAN get the mrk XI which is just as good.

Okay, yeah, that's not as bad :P.... well the thing is I've seen one for sure, probably more, people who have done 100+ of a single STF, never got their proto tech, and felt it was a chore with **** rewards to continue going and thus went to other games.

Really, I feel the effort placed can be opposite of the rewards. Some people put massive effort and perfect the STF run, but get nothing. Another guy is just learning and gets the prototype. So I tend to go "BLAH." If somebody implies that XII is perfectly fine as is and something you can work toward as a goal that can be predicted/obtained without relying on luck.

I'm a little curious: if you're sticking with normals, why not just trade EDC for the Mk X/XI stuff? The MACO shields of any grade are a huge step up, at least.

I'm attempting to save the EDC for the set items, but its extremely hard to get when idiots completely fail the missions, not just the optionals, the entire missions.

I have most of what I need for the STFs already on my ship just about everything is Mk XI rare or better, and if by some slim chance the missions (with optionals) are successful and I get a hold of the rare Borg salvage, I trade it in to make minor upgrades to my ship, mainly swapping out the phaser beam arrays with the tetreoyn beam arrays to better rip out shields so my torpedoes hit harder.

As stated in my post, all four beam arrays and the two quantum torpedoes have the Borg proc, the two Har'Pangs are max level versions from replaying the Doomsday mission a few times. My ship is also equipped with all four parts to the Borg set so I have all the set bonuses there, and I have the right set of consoles to make my NX-Odyssey work as an effective battle platform for pounding the hell out of large targets.

ive been burnt out on them for awhile, i still need 2 ground mkxii and one space, i run it every now and again, but after just a few times i just loose interest. im 150 or so just on cure elite and no prototype yet, yea id say the system is just broken, heck ive only gotten two rare tech drops out of all of my runs, and ive managed to buy 12 mkxii weapons and both my mkxi ground sets and both mkx ground sets with the slandered tech. Luck based drop systems are stupid, nothing like punishing a player by forcing them to run the same mission a million times and still not awarding them with a the only useful drop left.

Never received a proto engine tech drop, but I have a stack of five each for proto shield and deflector techs in my bank. Gotta love random drops.... :(

The logical answer to that is to stop running Infected and KA til you get the engine drop.

I have actually seen the rare salvage drops come up during the STFs, but of course the random ill equipped moron winds up getting it and I end up with a stack of lockboxes that I can't use since I'm stuff as a true F2P, and that is if by some extremely slim chance the optional is successful, but any time I do an STF the failure rate of the optional is 99% and currently the complete mission failure rate is around 75%, and with failure rates like these on NORMAL difficulty, I think that Cryptic needs to change the minimum level you can start STFs at or make some kind of filter system to keep out the idiots when queuing up.

As for the random ill equipped idiots out there, I have some tips for you:

    1. Wait until you are at cap level before attempting an STF (entering STFs when you first get them will get you blown out of the sky and frustrate everyone else)
    2. Have some type of torpedo bay on your ship (this is also Star Trek cannon), large ships will need at least two, one forward and one aft
    3. Your equipment must be blue (rare) or better and the highest mark number you can get (the only items that don't count for this are the devices)
    4. Equip the Har'Pang torpedoes (Kingons can craft these, and the Federation gets them from the Doomsday mission)
    5. Learn the proper tactics for the mission and difficulty (do not ever use the same tactics for NORMAL and ELITE, they require completely different tactics)
    6. Use you ship for what its designed for, escorts and small are meant to chase the swarms, cruisers and larger ships are for beating the hell out of the big targets, and the science ships are used for support and crowd control

That is enough for this rant, hopefully something gets through on this and the STFs will be doable again.

Great tips, but theres a problem... The people who need to be reading this are flying around with their chat closed, theyre thumbs up their a**es, while yelling ZOMG IM SO BEAST even though they cant kill a thing. encountered a guy today on an ISE who, i kid you not, was named 'john'. he was flying an oddy (dont know which) equipped with all tetryon save a quantom in the front and back. he busted the 10% rule on BOTH sides despite repeated lambasting in chat. when we were killing the gate, it decided to do us a favor and kill 'johnny bag o' noobnuts' for us, and we all cheered. at least 2 of the other guys knew what they were doing- made 2 new friends that day :D didnt even bother muting johhny. moral of the story: GET YOUR THUMBS OUT OF YOUR A**ES AND OPEN CHAT!!!
    When in doubt, (hehe) c4!

I have the same problems with the space set. I got the rare engine tech 7 times!!!! SEVEN TIMES!!!! I need the proto tech!!!! I spoke with a player who got the proto tech engine 4 times. So what are you doing cryptic??? It was easier to get the M.A.C.O. Team Commander Accolade as one full set of 3 pieces. It is a lottery and it seems to make no difference if you solve the optional or failed. PLEASE CHANGE THAT BACK TO THE OLDER RULES. In older days you got your special item after spending 3-4 hours for one STF. Now the STF missions are short but you need month for one item. Why???

dood98998 - Like I said in older posts, I myself fly the anniversary edition Odyssey that I refer as the NX-Odyssey since its the prototype before the C-Store versions came out. I only run this ship since I'm stuck as a true F2P and can't get anything better, but like any good Star Trek captain and engineer (who says Vulcans don't make good engineers), I took a ship that was lacking in several areas and made the damn thing work by adjusting power levels and installing the right parts, so my NX-Odyssey became an effective battle platform, that can pummel just about any large target to death and survive heavy pounding from the vary thing I'm attacking. Too bad most people in the escorts don't realize this and ignore the small ships that swarm me, which makes it difficult for me to do my job of killing the big ones, cruisers are too slow and can't maneuver enough to chase small ships all over the map, that is the role of the escorts, think of it as a bomber group, the fighters protect the bombers, while the bombers eliminate the objective.

Thats how it should be, but an escort with 3 parts borg + maco shield can sit in front of just about anything using only TSS/e2s + Tac Team while sending the borg a double birdie  . As for the 'small targets' problem, just get BFaw and/or Tractor Repulsors to destroy/push them away. I can handel 3 spheres or 5 probes by Faw(ing) the hell out of them.

i agree with what Archived Post said.

it would be nice if we could trade 400-500 edc for a proto tech

Have been for awhile now...:( Be it a large sum of EDC's or tradeing rare tech for proto would be nice to know there is a sure fire way to get your gear

Since the failure of the STFs and lack of cap level content for people stuck as true Free-to-Paly, I have been taking a long break from STO, there is basically nothing left for me in this game.

It would be nice to get more of the sets, but with the current player base for any PvE mission you have to que up for, they are like "Shaka, when the walls fell." instead of "Darmok, and Jalad... at Tanagra." or "Picard and Dathon... at El-Adrel." , hopefully these select quotes from a Star Trek TNG episode sink-in.

As for STO itself, until there is more cap level free content or a better player base for STFs, it will be "Terreut, his ship docked." for me. (that last one is my own version of a Tamarian phrase with my STO character name)

Agreed, rare tech + EDCs + other crafting materials to make a proto.

    IGE is killing me.

Burnt out ? Naw, not yet. I've gotten some pretty epic loot drops before S6, but I'm afraid to do STF's since S6's release because of all the weapon bugs, not to mention replacing some weapons that were outright broken by S6. I'm afraid I might find more bonus bugs that havent been reported yet.

...Besides, the dilithium grind takes MUCH more time than it used to, time I could be spending doing STF's if I chose to.
