Mobile Emitter should be a Science Starbase Special Project

The Hologram Mobile Emitter should be a Starbase project in the Science division. After acquiring the emitter (via a Fleet Provisions objective, similar to the ships) players would be able to equip it in the device slot of their Photonic Tactical Officer. This would also give the player the ability to beam down the Photonic Tactical Officer as a 'combat pet', to aid the player and show it off.

    So you want to make something people payed real money for almost useless until they perform something ingame? Because people loved it so much with starbases and fleet modules?

    Nah. He's talking about giving it extra functionality.

    Thing is, the BO already has a mobile emitter. When killed, the BO disappears and a mobile emitter drops.

    That said, I could see photonic BOs being special projects for fleet starbases.

    Particularly:

    A photonic engineering BO (to round out the set) or theme BOs like the Hamlet DOffs, Dixon Hill Gangsters, etc.

    It's the combat pet aspect that I'd like to see, for when in groups of players or doing STFs (which is all we do these days), similar to a Mugato/Horta.

    Ah, I didn't notice that but I'd still like it for some way to have it beam down. Adding the ability and then, as you mentioned, being able to recruit Holograms via special projects would be ideal.

    It's an interesting idea but as I understand it, will likely be better served for the eventual kit revamp.

    Geko doesn't want inventory items to have special powers and when kits become slottable, Ophidian Cane, Shard of Possibilities, etc. are supposed to become items that get slotted into kits.
