Why don't we ever kill Captains/Generals/Admirals/Dahar Masters of our own faction?

Just throwing this out there but intra-factional strife is NOT ONLY a big MMO thing (since it aids in the illusion of agency and control for players) but it's ALSO a huge Star Trek thing.

DS9 is the only series I can remember where the Captain routinely took orders from a superior officer instead of doing the opposite of whatever they were ordered to do. (That said, we DID get that on the Klingon side in DS9, cultimating with Worf killing the Klingon head of state and with Martok celebrated for his defiance of orders.) And even then, Sisko did contradict Ross, was treated as an equal by him, and ultimately acted as Ross' superior.

In general, a Starfleet Captain seems to wind up with a high bodycount of superior officers in their career (because the pips mean they're evil or crazy, 99 times out of 100) and the KDF even moreso (because honor gets interpreted by the warrior).

The one time we have this in STO, it's an impostor.

I'd feel like there would be a lot less drum thumping faction patriotism and a more interesting game if we wound up arresting or killing superior officers more.

And, heck, DS9 had Admiral Layton.

Yeah sure why not, we are shooting everything else that moves in this game. It would sure help me with that "Destroy Federation Ship" Accolade on my left to things to-do. Also, why is there no Vole hunting at DS9?

edit ... nice Ninja Turtle btw

The only way, it seems to me, to really deal with all these complaints about lack of content, or the game being the same grind day after day, is to move away from this "missional" model. If all the action is in missions, and there are only so many missions, and the missions don't really change anything, then of course the game is going to become a grind after a while.

So we need something that allows players to drive the content and have a real effect on each other - maybe the Klingon v. Fed war actually allows territories to be won and lost based on player actions (with Kronos and Sol always safe, say). Maybe you should be able to board and actually capture another player's vessel. We could come up with 100 different ideas. I'm kind of suspicious that the reason they haven't been implemented is because CBS doesn't want players to have a free hand to change the content of "their" story. Not sure what to do about that.
