LockBoxes will keep spamming us? (my urge to uninstall gets bigger)

zerobangzerobang Member Posts: 0 Arc User
They will keep popping up after explosions of Ships (and Metreon Gas Clouds)?
They will keep cluttering the Need or Greed UI?
They will force their way into my inventory so that i will have to dismiss them all the time?

Everytime one of the above happens my urge to just uninstall this game gets bigger and bigger.

I don't mind you earning money Cryptic.

But can we PLEASE go back to the Winterbox System?

Just buy the damn things directly?

Make them unbound so they can be sold just like the LockBox-Keys.
(50% of your customers just buy those keys to earn easy Energy Credits -> why not directly sell 1 million EC for 1$ ?)

Put a NPC in the game that converts formerly purchased Keys into the new Box(es).

JUST PLEASE remove that constant IN YOUR FACE ADVERTISING
for all our sanity!

This was the ONLY reason i like the DOffPack System better than the LockBox System.
It is not harassing me at every step i make!

It is not constantly begging me for a $

...

I think i payed enough Euro, C-Points, Atari Tokens and Zen for this game in the past 2+ years to ...nicely ask ...that you stop harassing your Playerbase like that!

STOP IT!

    I agree with this statement

or Reduce..Reduce..REALLY reduce, and then Reduce some more the Drop rate. And just to add alittle visual pleasing, turn the lock box, into an escape pod. so when it drops instead of this horrble glowy box in space..its an escape pod, floating in space, ready to be claimed.

Lockboxes would not bother me nearly as much if they would stop dropping whenever I shot down a torpedo or popped a metreon gas pocket or some other thing that doesn't make sense to have a loot drop attached to it, and if I could set an 'autopass' filter on them during team loot rolls.

I hope you bought some doff packs in order to show your support, then. I did, but based on the number of "suchandsuch has unlocked a Tuffli-class freighter!" I'm seeing, very few others did. I still see a D'Kora awarded every few minutes, and even a Galor a couple of times a day; I haven't actually noticed any Tuffli awards yet.

It's clear that the forums community in aggregate prefers the DoffPack system more, but what matters is which system is preferred by those who are actually buying.

    Well, NO.

simply because i already had a Jem Hadar Ship and because i could not care less about a silly Freighter (i'm a doffing nutjob, but i still see no reason to place myself in a freighter, not to mention that i have 11 Chars now and 1 freighter wouldn't make a dent in my doffing routine, but even if the freighter was account wide i still would not want to fly a freighter).

Then why in the name of Bob Dole do you think they'll change to accommodate you?

Yes, the game is free to play now, and the more the merrier. But when deciding how to monetize the game, should they be weighing the desires of people who are actually paying for the upkeep, or people who have made a committed stance to NEVER pay ?

Might as well uninstall. Cryptic is so in love with lock boxes, theyre fine with losing whole countries over it, let alone one player.
    #BorticusGate

I wish we could turn the visuals of them off though and just auto loot them, and I'll flush them down the toilet later. Kills screenshots, let alone immersion.

While I agree with the general sentiment of the thread, the OP is wrong about them clogging the need/greed UI.

This will no longer happen unless you set your threshold to common.

Personally i do not have any problem with the lockboxes, (I make good EC with this game feature :P)

What really annoys me, is, that when the first lock boxes appeared in game, in the thousands of STF's I made, I only looted 1 GOLD BOX! The loot? TRIBBLE.

Let them open I say, I keep buying and selling keys on the exchange and I get my ship for free.

good to know, but this is just trading one annoyance for another.
LockBoxes will drop in space instead, hanging there in 3D on my screen even longer, ruining screenshots and demo records because nobody will pick the trash up.

Then why in the name of....

    almost valid argument
if you take that quote out of context as you did.

put some ships i care about in a doffpack next time and i'll buy that.
put a lockbox directly in the C-Store without annoying the hell out of me every 5 minutes, and i might consider buying it
(depending on the content of course).

no need to mention that i have already spend somewhat around $800 - $1000 on this game for various things (but who's counting?).

This is getting beyond a joke, when i saw ferengi boxes were ending i thought finally a break from this spam, guess not.

I liked the ships in doff packs idea, that was really great n should replace the lockboxes. The only reason i did not go for that one is because since i am a 1 ship per char player, the tuffli has no use for me, is a weak ship, n the ship switch ability is no use to me. Had they put the tholian ship in them i would have bought some.

This new one cmon, 3 ships in it, one unique, but the other two identical to existing ship but with slight;y tweaked slots and a slight diff skin. Could there be a lazier way to make more ships. So basically by cloning an existing ship and making a few (very minor) tweaks, they r now selling 3 ships in the box in order to gouge more money from people this is beyond a joke.

Seriously why doesn't pwe just change their name to Ferengi Alliance, cuz just like the ferengi they are only interested in profit, gouging players, spamming maps, and now releasing tweaked versions of existing ships.

The cardassian one i did do, but they had better chances, the ferengi one i bought off market after a bad experiance with the gold lock boxes being bugged. This time i will do the same, either get what ships i am interested in off the exchange or not at all, i will not play into this price gouging by opening tons of worthless boxes.

If they put em in doff packs i would buy some, even donate from my own hard earned cash, but i am not playing this so called lottery (more like spamming in your face player tax ) no matter how many boxes the pwe ferengi alliance shoves in my face.

Forgot to mention my fav part, when they put in the post linked on the launcher that they listened to player input, really?

How come when the majority of players said they are sick of the boxes n think it would be better in doff packs, they r still releasing more boxes. Is that listening to player feedback like claimed in the post?

actually it's more like 5 Ships and a Shuttle (Fighter) if you count the Klingon Mirror skin ship and the Tholian Dreadnought in the Lobistore.

The worst mission used to be cure space elite. Get to the carrier and bam lockbox spam felt like every pet you downed you got a lockbox. Least that gots better.

It ilks me that every fe episode rewards a lockbox at the end every Borg stf rewards you with a lockbox in the personal reward. Do I really need another half dozen or more dropping during the mission. I'll get one at the end.

I think it would be interesting to see the metrics on how many people select "Pass" on lockbox loot. That would be an indication of how many people dislike this mechanic, some of them enough to stop playing.

Unfortunately, they continue the lockbox scheme, which can mean only one thing - they are making money on it. It's a free to play game, and they have to make money to stay in business.

There are 2 problems with the lockboxes.
Firstly, lets look at the possible contents.

    1. Ferengi D?Kora Marauder Class Starship. -- Easily the most sought after prize I'd imagine.
    2. Cross-Faction Starship Console. (Vent Theta Radiation Console for FED and Photonic Displacement Console for KDF). -- Quite good.
    3. Ferengi Gambling Device. -- Nice, but nothing special.
    4. Ferengi Duty Officer Pack with 3 random Ferengi Duty Officers. -- Nice, but nothing special.
    5. Large Commendation XP Boost (20% bonus to Commendation XP for up to 10,000 CXP). -- Don't care.
    6. Commendation XP Boost (20% bonus to Commendation XP for up to 2,000 CXP). -- Don't care.
    7. Skill Point Boost (20% bonus to Skill Points for up to 1,000 SP). -- Don't care.
    8. Consumable Fighter Pets. -- Don't care.
    9. Consumable Combat Pet. -- Don't care.
    10. Holographic Combat Drone Pet. -- Don't care.
    11. Holonovel Code Fragment. -- Don't care.
    12. Random Rare or Very Rare Space Deflector or Ground Armor. -- Nice, but nothing special/don't care.
    13. Stack of double bonus consumables that improve two stats in combat. -- Don't care.
    14. Lobi Crystals. -- Don't care.

So out of 14 possibles there's 1 or 2 items I'd quite like, ~3 that are just ok, and 9 that I consider to be as good as worthless. Assuming all items have an equal chance of appearing(although I'd imagine in reality the chances of picking up double stat consumables to be MUCH greater than winning a ship) then it's fair to assume that if I was to buy a stack of 10 keys I'd probably still only get maybe 1 halfway decent item.

Secondly, they drop SO often. I could handle 1 per week or 1 per day, but it's more like 1 every 10 minutes. When the supply so vastly outstrips the demand the product devalues. Familiarity breeds contempt.

Presumably enough for them to take the boxes out out of the loot roll mechanic, which it's been stated they've done.

Well i Can Agree with you in regards to the Lock boxes being dropped so much and it is excessive
but thats how Cryptic is making so much Money off of them, cause alot of people usually get a Lock Box
in the hopes of getting something Rare like a Ferengi D'Kora Marauder Class Starship simply only to end up disappointed after actually seeing it was just a waste of a Lock Box Master key, while others just
pick them up to Stock pile them Sell them on the Exchange for an Insane and Unrealistic price
Easy Solution to this Problem is to Not Buy Keys for the lock boxes or even pick them up that way
Cryptic is Not making Any money from them at all.

This is... insane... I loved the loffpack... I adored the loffpack... I even bought the damn thing even though I didn't want a bug. It was out of my face... it wasn't clogging the need or greed bar... it wasn't exploding into view every time I destroyed a ship... It was glorious... a beacon... a light unto the future possibilities... It was out of the way... it was beautiful....

    but these... dropping... as... loot...

Aye.... admittedly I was celebratin' the comin' o' season six... but it seems I be happy too soon..... :(

Hmm. What about starbase projects requiring lock boxes as resource? Otherwise I am for removing them from all loot tables and for selling open boxes in C-Store directly.

    Really people? Yeesh...

Lock Boxes aren't that bad. You don't HAVE to pick them up. You can always hit PASS when they show up on N or G. It takes all of 2 clicks to throw them away (3 if you're throwing away stack).

You don't HAVE to buy keys, you can just completely ignore the Lock Boxes. Some people like them, some people don't, but threatening to "Uninstall" isn't going to make PWE have them removed.
