Cryptic: What are you thinking?

coutloud1coutloud1 Member Posts: 12 Arc User
This is not a troll. Cryptic, i got this game (retail) for $10.00. I started playing immediately when F2P went live, and it was pretty awsome! But.... July came around, and you suddenly announced that we should link our accounts with a PW account for (seemingly) no reason I can imagine, other than that you are planning to merge your company with perfect world (i also noticed most of your games are on the PW website...). So, now that Season 6 is LIVE, there aren't enough servers (or somthing) to hold the population of STO all at once.

Here is my problem:

1. You make us link our (I personally hate making morer than 1 account for 1 thing) accounts with PW WITHOUT announcing it ahead of time. (mabey a month before you do somthing like that, please?)

2. You don't have enough servers to hold the pop. of STO. You have paying customers, so I must conclude you have the money to set up more servers. Or are you keeping the money? What's going on?????

3. Quite frankly, I didn't sign up for PW, i don't have the PW home-page in my favorite's list (in my browser), and I'm (think) not playing a PW game. So, why do I have to use a PW account username and password for a cryptic game?

what's up? What's going on?

You have been playing a PW game for a long time now. They bought out cryptic a while ago!

They always have teething issues when new series go live, I admit, it shouldn't be this bad, but everyone was expecting something like this.

We may never know what they're thinking... but whatever it is, the final decision is PWE.

And they probably make the final decision on a lot of things, like the time-gated content. Cryptic just has no choice but to do it

Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

When you truly learn that this is only a game, that in a short or even a long run it does not mean anything in your life (at least it should not) you will know how pointless your way of thinking and acting is.

This will be fixed, this will be taken care of. I payed money to these guys too but just because the game is down for 1day it does not mean your life stops and that they are wasting the money you payed and that they are bad at this.

I must say that they should prepare for this more but lets face it, linking PW acc and downtime/loging issues hurt you?

All that PW/C does is or will be good in the long run and just because that guy does not understand it...actually i do think you know what i meant.

While much of this is true, it really isn't necessary to dog people out like that. The bigger issue is people purchased a product, there are issues with it, and the company which puts out that product did absolutely nothing to notify its consumers. More importantly, the timetables which it gave and explanations have been wrong. However, on a positive note, the queue is moving, so try to be patient, and in the meantime, do the smart thing and fill this forum with all the vitriol of your complaints and maybe they may change if enough people complain enough.

    1. They did annouced it in advance, it was optional and they said that eventually it would be mandatory. Besides no matter how much warning they give, not everyone comes to the forum to read the announcement.

    2. Breath in, breath out. you paid for a F2P game for 10$, big deal, I droped 300$ for LTS, if I can live if STO is down for a day or two, so could you.

    3. Cryptic got sold to cryptic a long time ago, you're a PWE customer now. Don't like it? quit playing STO, build yourself a time machine and go back to when Cryptic was owned by Atari. It won't be Free to play, you will have to have a subscription to play, but it's better than being a PWE customer I guess.

    Edit:
Or are you keeping the money?
I hope they're keeping some money and that it becomes profitable, otherwise they may as well put the key under the door and call it quit. They are in the business to make money, as much as possible.

"2. Breath in, breath out. you paid for a F2P game for 10$, big deal, I droped 300$ for LTS, if I can live if STO is down for a day or two, so could you."

I have a life. When I pay for a chocolate bar, do I get half a chocolate bar? NO. I get a whole chocolate bar. (whomever the hell is in charge of STO) has the total number of users who play the game. When people pay for a service, they expect it to be delivered. If PW/Cryptic can't accomodate the entire population of STO on their servers, what am I paying for? This is about SERVICE, buisiness, and most importantly the customer. Yes, it is a game. But when you start paying for somthing, it yeilds a value. I buoght a game which I should (keyword is 'should') be able to play at anytime of the day/night. Instead, i can't. So, did I get my money's worth? NO. If It is wrong for me to be upset about that, please let me know.

"1. They did annouced it in advance, it was optional and they said that eventually it would be mandatory. Besides no matter how much warning they give, not everyone comes to the forum to read the announcement."

I almost never go to the forums, hell I alm,ost never go to any forums. If Cryptic.PW want to send a message that they want everyone to hear (like "Season 6 is now LIVE"), they should put it up in the patcher like Blizzard does, or any other game for that matter. Sending a message that affects everyone demands a form of communication that reaches everyone.

"Cryptic got sold to cryptic a long time ago"

They sold themselves to themselves, eh?

It Kind of is. Every MMO has server down time. The downtime is actually used (in case as I think you don't know) to improve and update the game. This actually makes the money you spent on the game a better deal as when you do log into the game the next day, the game is better than when you had originally spent money on it.

Do you not want a game that is continually improved?

Let me correct your chocolate bar analogy to help you understand. You initially pay 10 dollars for a chocolate bar. You then eat half of it and then the rest of it is taken away for a few hours. When you get it back, instead of the half chocolate bar you had taken away momentarily, you get back a bar that is complete (Or to be more accurate, some fraction of a bar that is more than 1/2). The cycle then continues with eating and improving and when all is said and done, you will have eaten way more chocolate than was in that initial bar you paid 10 dollars for.

There, I just let you know.

    1. Every MMO has a rough time when a big patch comes out, cause every person in the world somehow wants to log in at the same time. So servers go wack, its to be expected!

    2. The STO site is for the news and other stuff, launcher not so much. Its to launch the game trough, and as far as i remember there was a big thing in the launcher that linked u to the STO site where u got to learn that if u link ur account on that time u would get some ingame goodies. So even the launcher had it!

    3. U know what he ment, ur just being childish with that responds...

More accurately since he doesent say he pays a sub and only payed for a physical copy of the game (and doesn't mention any special features included in said copy), the analogy should be....

You bought a souvineer for free chocolate tasting event. This event is free to all who choose to show up. There are some premium chocolated available to buy if you wish but there are also lots of other things to try free of charge. The amount of chocolate available is on a first come first serve basis, with a portion held over and front line access for those with special passes that are available for purchase.

You paid $10 for the game. If you've played for 10 days, your cost has been a dollar per day. You lost 8 hours of game time yesterday so that the game could be improved. You want 33 cents back to cover your 8 hours?

You mention how WOW posts news in their launcher so you are obviously aware of how MMOs work. There is scheduled maintenence. There is unscheduled downtime. It happens to every game at some point and again, you seem to have some MMO experience so you should know this.

And yeah, your whole "if I don't like your response I will ignore it" and willfully ignoring what people meant when they make a typing mistake pretty much reveals that your claim that this isn't a troll thread in your OP is false.

    Move along...nothing to see here.

I love it when people jump to cunclusions without sufficient proof. I have not been playing this game for 10 days. I have been playing for months. If you read the initial post, you would know that.

So, unlike blizzard, notch, or any other game dev I ahve had to put up with a whole lot of s**t from Cryptic/PW. But, NO! Wait, THERES MORE! No one in the forums seems to grasp the fact that Cryptic/PW are providing a service, and it sucks. Un-announced downtime (which was finally fixed, thank god), servers which can't even bear the full load of the game, and oh yes the account linking... omg i hate that so much.

In all my video game experience I have enver encountered such an unstable game, and uncareing comunity.

OP - perhaps you should have done a little more research into STO, its developer Cryptic, the publisher for a year now - PWE, as well as visiting the forums even for just a little lurking. It's amazing the amount of information you pick up just by lurking around the forums. :)

So, just to be clear, everyone is just fine with ****ty customer service, horrific lag, not enough (good) content, and (oh yes) mis-information? Alright, suite yourself, I'll just quit this TRIBBLE game and play StarCraft II. At least Blizzard cares enough to post maintanence, major patch, and other relative news on the login screen so everyone can freakin see it without making it their obligation to spend 30 minutes looking up the forums for the "latest and greatest".

It's just bad buisiness not to care about customers, and when Cryptic/PW learn that, then I MIGHT reconsider playing STO. I really hate that it has to be run by such a ****ed up company which only cares about profit. TRIBBLE you all.

Dude, this isn't rocket science. If you've been here even 1 month then you know STO patches every Thursday. They've done it on that day at the same basic time for a couple of years. Sometimes it only takes 2-3 hours and sometimes it takes more, but Thursday's the day. Plus Patch Notes are filed on the forum the night before so that everyone can see what's coming in that Thursday's Patch.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I'm sure that the "might" is going to keep PWE/Cryptic up at night, depressed about how they messed up the entire relationship, wondering what they could have said or done to show you how much they cared about you and how much they really miss you.

If this game is like chocolate, then let's Forest Gump it and upgrade it to a 'Box of Chocolates':

Buying a subscription to an MMO is like a box of chocolates. Except you don't pay for the chocolates, you're renting acces to the box. Some chocolates you may eat only if you pay more. Others may not have yet been put into the box. Some chocolates may not be done yet. The box may be expanded. You may encounter other hands in the box that you can trade chocolates with or discuss chocolate taking with. Every so often, the box will need to be updated at which point you will end up on a web forum talking about chocolate boxes. And that is where we are at, currently.

Except they're still just as lousy at updating their games. Just go check the hunter rhino pet in WoW. Two expansions later and it still has a bleeding debuff.

PWE bought Cryptic because Cryptic was broke.

They can make you link to their site and use a login for it if they like.

If these things bother you , you should stop playing the game. Posting on the forums will not change anything. PWE clearly has it's own priorities, and I strongly doubt that your -- or anyone else's -- disapproval matters in the slightest to them.

There are quite a few people upset with PWE for very legitimate reasons. There are also many people upset with PWE because they want the company to take a loss just so they can have the game they want, regardless of the fact that doing so would result in it being shut down for being unprofitably productive. The first group's complaints can be addressed, I suspect the second group's are being ignored.
