I have always wondered, what in the world are those things in sector space that look like space lanes? They provide no speed bonus and serve no navigational purpose, so? Why are they there?
Legacy design. They never served any purpose in the live game.

In Perpetual's design, they were supposed to provide speed buffs.
However, I recall hearing that Cryptic didn't consult those designs and crafted them independently because they made space look less open and 3D, largely as a visual reference to make space look more like a room and less like space, for players who don't handle space well.
I just think it would be cool if they did provide speed buffs. This would help new players get around, learn were things are, and not take forever looking at people in odysseys driving by with their slipstream on. Anyone else think its a good idea?

I always thought the same.
Pride of Starfleet. *snort* BLAH!
They died out. The Klingons ate them all at a Risa Beach Party.
