Fleet ship balance?

Cryptic, Devs, and those how make decisions, this is an imbalance that I recognized while looking through the shipyard at ESD on the Tribble Test Server.

I am a coming up on my 500 day veteran run, and I absolutely love playing Star Trek Online (STO). Does it have issues yes, but what and who can build the perfect game for everyone? I can?t be happy all the time but, I love what is coming in you soon to be released Season 6. I also love the idea of the new fleet ships coming. I also love playing science characters; I have three of them and can?t get enough of them. I have at least one of every class and find that science is the hardest to play, the reason I love to play it. I have one problem with the decision on the extra console slot that is coming on the Fleet Long Range Science Vessel (Intrepid).
Here is my argument.

Look at the Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit (Defiant) vessel; it is supposed to be the quintessence vessel for tactical ships and dealing DPS. It has 3 bridge officer slots: one Ensign; one Lt Commander; and one Commander?with the new Defiant it is coming with 5 consoles for the tactical position on your ship. You have 8t tactical bridge officer skill slots to 5 console slots seems fair for the go to DPS dealer of the fleet. The previous version of this ship use to be the free ship you got before season 5 when you hit VA, well at least one of the three options. In comparison the new Fleet Patrol Escort had 4 console positions for both tactical and engineering. It also has 7 tactical bridge officer skills and 3 engineering skill positions.

Now look at the Feet Exploration Cruiser Retrofit (Enterprise-D) vessel. It used to be the epitome of engineering and tanking. Its previous version was one of the three options when getting promoted to VA. It too has 3 bridge officer slots: one Ensign; one Lt Commander; and one Commander?with the new Enterprise-D it is coming with 5 consoles for the engineering position on your ship. So it tow has an 8 bridge officer skill slots to 5 console slots. This combination allows for the upmost tanking abilities, maybe except the Odyssey. The new Fleet star Cruiser is almost I aligned with the Fleet Patrol Escort with 4 engineering and science console slots. It also has 7 bridge officer skill slots for engineering and three for science.

These four previous ships have the additional console slot to go with the bridge officer skill slots available.

Now here is where the ship does not conform to the previous standards. I think you hit the Fleet Reconnaissance Science Vessel (FRSV) on the nose. Under the previous platform when the ship had three of an off primary skill slot it had 4 console slots. You added the additional tactical console slot to the FRSV which makes since because under the previous format used to add the additional console slot. Here is where it does not make since. The Fleet Deep Space Science Vessel (FDSSV) and the Fleet Long Range Science Vessel (Intrepid) under the plans I seen in the shipyard they do not conform to the way other ships had have their additional console positional added. The Intrepid has 8 science bridge officer skill slots and only four science console slot. Instead of adding it to science like the previous format the ship had it put into tactical position. Now the ship does not conform like the old free VA ships. The FDSSV also does not conform to the standard. The additional console position was added to the science area instead of the engineering position. This ship under the current Tribble format does not have 4/3 to 4/7 consoles to bridge officer skill position ratio like the Fleet Star Cruiser or the Fleet Patrol Escort.

Here is how I would fix the issue and make the ships conform like the other ships. I would take the Intrepid and give it 5 science console positions to go with the 8 bridge officer skill positions. This would remove the third tactical console position. The FDSSV should have the 5th position removed and add a 4th engineering position. I think this would resort game balance and have similar vessel throughout the shipyard.

This might be a shipyard UI issue instead of what you have Cryptic has planned but it was an imbalance that I recognized looking through the shipyard fleet ships.

I agree, they do not appear to be aligned to the format they have followed in the past. Hopefully they will rethink it before the live date.

Granted I do not PvP a lot... but I imagine that yes, the new Fleet ships will be superior in PvP. Though I also credit the skill of the Captain as also crucial, so someone in a F2P ship that is a regular PvPer would easily kick my butt in PvP no matter which ship I buy.

However, for the many people who don't PvP, these are really more of a flavor change. The Elite STF experts do just fine in their current ships, and could continue to do so without the Fleet versions. (Note I say COULD).

If you just PvE, and are a casual STFer it will be cool, but in no way necessary. Flavor, and not too much more.

I think a few of you might be missing my point. The Intrepid (FLRSV) has the 8 science bridge officer skills so it needs the 5 console slots to help cover more of the skills. Just like they are doing with the Fleet Tactical Escort and the Fleet Exploration Cruiser ships. I would like to see the balance before season 6 goes live because one it does, Cryptic might not change it. I also think one thing they might be doing is preventing non-escorts from having 4 or more console slots. I just don't understand the issus whenit is alright for the Fleet Partol Escort to have 4 tatical and engineering.

I agree completely, and have had this same conversation with my fleetmates as we looked over the fleet ship charts. The DSSV should have an extra engineering console, not science; the LRSV needs that 5th science console, and personally I think the Nebula should get a tac console to round it out to 3/3/4, since it is supposed to be well-rounded and modular. Now it seems they just want the Nebula to be a science-cruiser hybrid completely, which means tanky, CC, and no dps.

I think the changes made to science vessels just shows they have no idea what they want to do to balance the ship classes, especially now that they've tossed in two more science ships for VA. It looks like they want the LRSV to be the middle-of-the-road choice for captains, even though it is pigeon-holed with three science stations. The console layout for the LRSV should be on the Nebula, the Nebula console layout on the DSSV, and the DSSV layout on the LRSV. This would give the LRSV a boost to its science specialization (even though I prefer the Belerophon station layout), help boost the DSSV's role as uber tanker/CC, and allow the Nebula to be the most modular ship in the science arsenal.

The fleet LSRV should have a universal ensign, that'd allow both intrepid and bellerophon boff layouts.

I haven't been paying much attention to the consoles on the sci ships, I'll wait til they hit holo for that.

I bought C-store ships for the Consoles mostly :) I still get to keep those and the Tier 5 ones will even move to the Tier 6 ships.

I am wondering if Cryptic is going to change, it just does not make since if you have the vessel with more science bridgeofficer skill position than any other ship have less console slots. It makes more since to have the Fleet Long Range Science Vessel have 8 bridge officer skill positions with 5 console slots.
