rare prototype borg tech

i know you get them in drops on elite...i've done over 150 elite stfs and have never gotten a single prototype borg tech drop. ive seen a few but have never gotten them due to everyone hitting "need". how rare are these drops b/c i'm considering just giving up on ever getting them and i'm a 700 plus day vet.

    I got lucky yesterday. Three STFs in a row gave me prototypes.

    Yeah, it's an odd system. Basicly there's no way to grind for the top gear, you have to luck out twice on the RNG. Once for what you want to appear, and once to be the one who gets it. I got prototype deflector once on KDF, and two of the weapon prototype thingies for Fed and KDF each.

    That said, MkXI stuff is almost as good and can be ground for. It is still frustrating though.

    I'm trying to start an XII HG set yet I got the XI armor drop twice in one day :rolleyes: I traded it in for Dil...:p

    Like the post above said, it's just random luck. My very first Elite STF run after they added in the new rewards, I did infected and I got the purple Borg tech.

    I'm curious, can the tech items needed to obtain a requisition be traded or sold?

    I'm giving up the stfs soon too. Not worth the time it takes.

    It's sad I got 227 stfs done so far with no mk xii special reserve drops yet.

    Hopefully Dan can do something about this. Hopefully!

    I hate to ask, but are you doing Elite or Normal STFs. The prototype only drop in ELITE.

    Tech is dropping at a fairly decent rate since they tweeked it a few weeks ago.

    They drop a lot more often than they used to, mainly IN your personal loot reward at the end, and occasionally in optional rewards.

    yeah I noticed a bit higher chance of dropping tech, i think the current rate is set at a reasonable level

    not high as to get a Tech every run but not too low as to just waste days and weeks of game time getting nothing

    i just reently got to vice admiral and have been grinding stfs since 44 i have never even seen a rare borg tech -_- i am dying everytime i open that prize i wish for one but i never get it evrryone else does why cant this be fixed i wish i everyone got one for every run:(

    I have been farming Infected Space Elite, and Kitomer Accord Space Elite for prototype tech with my sci Ferasan with a crowd control carrier. I am approaching 180 sum for both. They have been dropping some rare tech, but zero prototype.

    A couple of weeks ago, I accidentally selected Cure Space Elite, it was a great group, and I got prototype engine tech! Now I am taunted by the utter lack of prototype shields or deflector!

    In the meantime I built a Mk X KHG ground set, and am on the verge of a complete Mx XI... all with data chips.

    Rare Tech usually starts dropping after I bought every piece of a set via EDCs ... :(

    Don't feel bad about not getting Prototype Tech Drops, I've been grinding for them on my Fed toon for months and months, without getting a single one.
    Hop onto my Klingon toon the other day, do elites on it for the first time and got two tech drop:o So yea, the drops on them are somewhat screwed up. But hopefully they'll drop for you one of these days.

    I have NEVER seen a tech drop in the optional rewards. . . 300+ STF's and counting.
    I thought they were personal drops only. If not they damn well should be.

    i dont think the grind would be so bad if there was actually more stuff to get in the STF store i mean the borg stuff is dirt cheap and is very powerful when you have a 3 piece set and a decent shield to stick with it compared to the mk X -XI stuff you grind EDC's for and you can get pretty much your entire weapon set from the borg salvage drops, maybe some Mk X- XII consoles in the STF store for 20 - 40 EDC's a pop ??? or some other sets that have decent set bonues on them to make worth useing.

    this is my experience. i have not counted the number of STFs i have done, but i have done plenty since i started playing a few months ago. i did pretty good at getting prototype tech and have an omega 12 set and maco 12 set for space; not as lucky on the ground. i have been trying to get PSG shields out of the IGE forever it seems.

    regular prototype and tech seems to come in cycles or spurts. for awhile i could get 3 or 4 prototype an evening and load up a ship with level 12 weapons. for the past month i have rarely seen any prototype at all.

    oddly enough though lately i have been getting many rare borg techs (2 at a time even), which i now just convert to shields, engines, whatever and sell them for credits. i only use level 12 items and you only get them through elites.

    also i have found (my experience only) that it makes absolutely no difference if you select need, greed or nothing at all on getting loot. i have tried all combinations and i think what you get is purely random. i have selected "need" many, many times and got nothing.

    i am often really surprised that players, like you, that have played for so long are not getting prototype tech, while a newer player like me has done pretty good on getting proto tech. i think this is just purely random.

    one question though; have you ever spent any money on the game? i liked the idea of free to play, but i wanted stuff that cost cash, so not free to play after all. i'm wondering if you have better chances if you have spent money?

    I don't believe it's broken, just yesterday I did 3 runs, got 2 rares on 2 and a single- 5 RARES in 3 runs.

    Maybe I should play the lottery.

    I think last night was a good night for proto drops, as I got one of each almost in a row.

    After playing over 500 stfs on 6 diff toons, after 600 days.. I get all 3 in one night. WTF! lol

    I had my fed decked out in MkXII weapons in 2 days. Getting optionals helps a ton. My KDF has 3 different types of full sets, I think she's done maybe 150-200 elite STFs

    I've been doing stf's for about a month I guess.I have 2 ships kitted out in MkXI and mkXII weapons.I have the omega,borg,and maco mkXI ship sets.I have 5....yes FIVE....prototype MKXII deflector pieces....I've never seen a shield or engine tech piece.I am sad panda.There should really be way to exchange duplicate pieces.

    I've gotten about 6 prototype shields and about 4 prototype engines. I've also gotten 2 each of the PSGs and armors. Tons of rare stuff.

    I've gotten one prototype deflector (on an alt) and never have gotten prototype weapons, and I keep grinding for these to no avail. We really need a system in which to convert pieces to pieces we need, or allow us to share amongst the characters on our account.

    I've done at least 500+ Elite STFs, and have yet to see even one Prototype Borg Engine... not one.

    They really need to fix their formulas for determining the chance of a drop (like factoring in how many the player has successfully completed).

    Getting REALLY fustrating.

    Just to weigh in. I've done (just) over 300 STFs, mostly elites, on my main. That character has full XII AP, Polaron, Phaser and Disruptor sets for escorts and Polaron sets for cruisers (light show). Also a collection of XII torps just because. Full XII MACO (space) with several spare prototype techs in the bank for future use. The ground gear (full XI sets) admittedly was mostly purchased with EDC because I mostly run space STFs due to liking large explosions.

    I think the drop rates are consistent.

    The reason prototype engine techs seem very rare is mostly due to most pug Cure Elite runs failing - the strict DPS checks and actual - frequently solo - combat with Neg'Var's and Raptors means people who have terrible builds that slip through mostly unnoticed in KASE and Infected tend to spend their time being largely ineffectual and/or respawning. Killing a Neg'Var that shoots back isn't like killing probes of course.

    I mean I'm at the point where I routinely facetank Drozana but I'm still surprised when a random Cure Elite actually succeeds.

    Approximately 50% of the Cure Elites I play in succeed, I play it at least 3 times a day, every day for months. Still not a single prototype borg engine.
