Is there a way I'm not seeing to turn off the auto equip for items like weapons?

    I'm not sure what you mean by auto equip. Items don't equip themselves automatically. If you are talking about the visuals (your character holding the weapon) then you can just press H to hide and show it.

    As for kits and armor. You can right click on them in the character window and choose Disable Visuals.

    I think he means if you have a empty equipment slot and you pick up a white equipment that fits into that slot, the game will auto equip that into that slot. Like while leveling I wanted to just keep one weapon for ground and left my 2nd wpn slot empty, but soon found out when I picked up a white wpn it would auto-equip it into my 2nd slot.

    I don't know if you can disable that, but it will not matter as you will need to have every slot to be filled to be efficient as I found out. In ground keep a sniper or similiar for distance then a close range like pulswave rifle in other.
