I haven't seen the movie yet, will probably see it next weekend. Read the book and thought it was awesome, and I can't wait for the movie. Have any of you both seen the movie and read the book? If so, what were your thoughts on it? How did it compare?

This has got to be the worst idea for a movie yet. As for the south and southern people, I think they take a lot of nasty TRIBBLE when it comes to being poked fun of in the media. I am about as north as you can get without entering Canada, but I respect people in the south for putting up with shows like "Squidbillies" and comics like Jeff Foxworthy.
I think this movie and Tim Burton's Dark Shadows remake spoof are on my do not watch list.

uuuuuuh. Dark shadows isnt a spoof. It was really that way in the 70's (it was a soap opera after all). and as for the south being poked fun at. It's Abe Lincoln where the hell esle is he going to end up? It's worth noting that the vampires in the move are not southern. The primary bad guy is actualy 5000 years old. He just lives in the south, so he can own lots of land, and slaves....so he can eat them.
As a time traveller, Am I supposed to pack underwear or underwhen?

Abriham lincols:Vampire hunter....... go... go and watch it......seriously. greatest thing i have ever laid eyes on
If that's the best movie you've seen...well, you need to see more movies.
I have not seen it, doubt I will, but the whole theme of the movie is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Even the trailors I've seen look silly...all CGI and special effects...meh.

Um, the Dark Shadows of the late 60s (66-71) was NOT even close to a comedy like the Tim Burton version. Soap Opera with Vampires, yes, but it was not even a little bit on the funny side. For those days it was dark and terrifying.
I remember...my Mom was a huge fan. It used to scare me to death as a child when it was on.

Umm if you have never seen the movie or read the book, how can you comment on its entertainment value? TrailErs often dont do a movie justice, look at the 2009 startrek movie. (which was literaly just all the exterior Awesome effects.... all of them... from the whole movie.)

I read the book a year or so ago. The only thing really racist about it was the system the aristocratic southern vampires used to feed themselves. They would accuse slaves, already in an inherently racist system, of running away or aiding union soldiers, then round them up and feed on them. They'd get buttpats for 'supporting the war effort at home' and 'killing them dang yank-helpers' when they were just being greedy and aiding a system that preferred whites almost entirely.
It was highly humorous and did have some serious merit for writing style and control of tone. The book was great. The most I've heard about the movie is that they spent a pretty penny to get lots of good special effects.

Also...go and see it totaly worth it especialy in 3d

Southerners are their own race? That's the best thing I've heard since a Southern accent is just a speech impediment.

Ooh, or maybe Thomas Jefferson - Alien Killer
Keeping in the Lincoln tone:
Hannibal Hamlin - Dalek Destroyer
I lived in the town of his birth so....
If only it had phasers and photon torpedoes too

But that may not have been the movie's fault, given the events of they day or two leading up to going to see it.
equal parts cynical and helpful

I liked the trailer better.
