Why isnt my ship in the middle of the screen?

th3gr4ndnagu5th3gr4ndnagu5 Member Posts: 6 Arc User
If you zoom all the way in on your ship it is in the middle of the screen. But as soon as your start to zoom out(on the very first click actually) your ship drops towards the bottom. Why isnt your ship always the middle point of the camera view even if you are zoomed out?

Hi, you might want to ask in the academy sub section. That's that place to go concerning how things work. Hope this helps.

I would presume it's to use most of your vertical screen real estate to show the space and objects in front of your ship.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. If I zoom all the way in my ship is the in the middle of my screen but I can still see just as much space as before.

Really? Do you play that way (zoomed all the way in)?

I guess I'm just looking at it differently; I find I have the best situational awareness when I'm zoomed out so that the ship is maybe 2-3 inches wide on screen (on a 17" panel). Closer than that and I can't keep a good view of what's going on; farther away and I have a harder time judging where everyone is relative to my firing arcs.

I think the point is to emphasize what's in your line of fire, in front of you.

The overall design intent is for your most damaging attacks to be whatever is in front of your camera.

No, I play zoomed out. But my point is regarding the positioning of my ship more towards the bottom of my screen than in the middle. You will notice that if you zoom all the way in, your ship is in the middle of the screen. But when you do one mouse wheel click out, your ship drops towards the bottom. Why isnt the ship still in the middle of the screen even when you zoom out?

Yeah, I figure if you zoom all the way in, it's because you're ogling your pretty ship, not actually trying to play. =)

I know if the ship was centered when I was trying to play it would irritate me, wasting all that vertical space on a partial aft view.

The camera raises above your ship, so you have a better vantage on the battlefield around (in front of) you.

The camera drops on the last wheel click, because we presume that when you zoom in all the way, you're probably trying to get a better look at your own ship.

I find that having the Ship off center helps when Captaining an Escort, Because I will zoom in further to see my forward firing arcs.

When at the helm of a Cruiser I play zoomed pretty far out so I can see the whole Battlefield, and would like the Ship to be centered.

I also switched my tag to the Career Officer title b/c it was better than "PWE User" or whatever they had. I'll probably switch it back to the non-LTS tag whenever they add in that ability.
