Lvl 40 ship worth the dilithium (and other questions)?

[Edit: I was a tard and hadn't completed the promotion mission, so disregard that part of the post]

Also a thought: since my tactical escort refit came with scaling quad phaser cannons, I have been sticking to phaser weapons and running two phaser relay tactical consoles. Do the pros feel that is a strategy worth holding onto, or should I switch out to a different energy type? One possibility I am considering is keeping the quad phaser cannons and switching the rest of my energy weapons to tetryon, then running one phaser relay and one tetryon pulse generator. I have read that running multiple +% consoles reduces the effectiveness of them anyway (for example, two +19% phaser dmg consoles does grant more than a 19% boost, but does not provide the full 38% boost).

Thanks for any insight you guys can provide!

    Stick with the SP.

You may want to check the Shipyard as well. If you bought the SP you should still have a free ship waiting for hitting lvl 40.

First off, I thought that they'd dropped the idea of not letting F2P players have a ship token every promotion up to RA, so you should surely have one?

You have compelted the promotion mission and all that obvious stuff, I take it?

You could do the level 40+ PvE missions just fine with the Sau Paolo (particularly on Normal), but you will need a T5 ship (either a RA one or a CStore RA/VA one) to do STFs, imo. If you want to spend real money on a ship, you might as well save up and get the Defiant-R or HEC, imo. The HEC in particular is quite a good ship with the Lt. C engineering station giving it good surivivability with a fairly minor loss in DPS.

Phasers are fine for energy type, some people prefer AntiProton at top level since it's proc triggers more often and gives you more DPS, but I get on just fine with phasers. What I would say is slot Phaser Relays into all your tactical slots. I've run 4 on all my T5 Escorts. It's worth it.

Erm, yes, I had forgotten to speak to the admiral, so I did get a ship token, so, uh, disregard that part. I evidently had a brain TRIBBLE! I went directly to the ship yard, and when I didn't have a ship token, I automatically assumed that was because my sub had run out. Doh!

You should have a free ship at 40 regardless of silver/gold status. Check the shipyard after you complete your promotion mission.

This is true, but irrelevant. Running 4 of the same consoles in your tac slots still provides a DPS advantage over using mismatched weapons and mismatched consoles.
