Hello everyone. My old forum handle was AlchemistiD, I didn't post all that much, but I've been playing STO roughly since open beta, with a few breaks here and there, and skimmed the forums on a roughly daily basis.
So, a couple days ago when this madness happened...or transpired....actually I prefer that, it sounds appropriately negative. When this madness transpired, I tried linking my account Cryptic account to Perfect World, after deleting my billing information, of course. After setting up my account info, avatar and such, I played a little STO and hit the hay. I was rankled at having to link my account to PWE in order to even post, but I figured it was inevitable that this would happen and elected to simply deal with it.
The next day I tried signing in to the forums. Repeatedly. I kept getting login errors, time and time again. I tried changing my password a couple times, logging in with both my user name and account name, nothing.
Worried, I checked out the launcher to see if I could log into the game. And it works, I entered the same login and password that the forum kept throwing back in my face, and logged into the game as easy as before. Even did some dailies and doff missions to try and cool off about this whole thing.
Here we are, days later, and it still doesn't work. The one reason I linked my account to PWE, and it was for nothing. I actually had to set up a new account just to post on the forums, which is arguably what I should have done in the first place instead of sullying my account by linking it to a corporation that barely sees it's consumers as human. You can call me an idiot if you like, I sure have.
I'm reluctant to bother sending a support ticket. I know Branflakes or some other rep would say that every ticket gets looked at by someone with a pulse at some point, but as much as I respect branflakes, it's really their word against the sea of complaints and grievances of people who have repeatedly sent in support tickets and received nothing but an automated message, and no support.
I feel like asking if I deleted my PWE account, whether or not my Cryptic account would go the way of the dodo as well, and I'd lose everything, or whether some kind tech somewhere would unlink my account so I can go back to just being pure Cryptic again. Fairly certain that's wishful thinking. I've also considered setting up a new account, but I'm equally sure all new accounts would be PWE by default.
So that's where I'm left now. The only positive thing about linking my account besides forum access was that I could use the GameStop Gift Cards I get from surveys to buy Zen Cards to supplement my C-Points while I also build up Refined Dilithium to use on the exchange. As things are, that is now impossible.
Normally I'd hate to add to the pile of "I hate this X" topics, but at this point, I'm pretty sure the only ones who mind are the mods, and even they have their own problems. Namely the fact that almost all of the tools they had to, well...moderate, are now gone. As has been said in quite a few other places, the majority of the quality of life functionality of the old forum is gone. Even the Dev Tracker is gone, and likely permanently, given the state of Champions' Dev Tracker. There's only a black screen crater where the old forums were.
I'm not sure where the blame here should be assigned to be honest. Cryptic for certain is at least partly to blame, for having dropped this on us with no warning at all. But I'd like to think I can lay the majority of the blame on PWE. No disrespect intended to branflakes, who has done a great deal for this community.
It's a shame that this transition had to happen in this way, and especially had to happen now, when players were getting excited about the game again and once again warming up to the devs after the end of the perceived information embargo after that whole Massively debacle. Pulling a stunt like this with no warning resulted in almost every wrong way to handle this transition happening. This has once again hurt the trust of a community that was already left incredibly cynical following last year.
And I think the devs know it. There's no way they couldn't know, not after days of topics with pages and pages of vitriol towards this change. Unfortunately, I'm not sure there's a thing any of them can do about it.
So there it is. Apologies for the long post, but I had to air things out after the last couple days. I hope the terrible handling of this transition isn't an omen of things to come.
Branflakes has stated in a few locations that, inevitably, the linking of a Cryptic account with a PWE account will no longer be avoidable. As in, mandatory.
I and other posters take this as meaning our Cryptic credentials will be going away. Since I decided to do the compliant thing and just make a PWE account when I realized this, and linked it to my Cryptic account, I lost the ability to log into STO with my former Cryptic credentials. I am forced to use the PWE account now, even though the 'Cryptic login' radio button is still there and active.
If your Cryptic account is unlinked, enjoy it while you can. Eventually we will all be forced to either drink the PWE kool-aid or not play at all.

I had quite a different problem. I linked my accounts only to get kicked off the game servers every time I tried logging in with my new PWE account. I eventually stumbled upon a fix for it, but it means I can no longer run the game through Steam like I used to. And in any case, having to jump through one more hoop just to connect because of the PWE migration is irritating to say the least.
I didn't mind having to change my handle, but that's only because I wasn't that crazy about my old one, which I adopted on the fly back in 2010 before I realized I'd be running more than one ship in this game. So, I took the opportunity for a do-over. All in all though, the handle issue may have been the most poorly executed aspect of this transition on Cryptic's/PWE's part.
I was eventually able to access my C-points and the linking reward (though I had to hunt a bit for the latter in the C-store), so that's something I guess. The new forums are still awful, though. Yeah, this is a fine mess indeed.

I made one but it was with my cryptic account.
