Hi this is in support to Branflakes, Tumorboy, and the rest.

I for one know that this was mandated by PWE and not Cryptic. Unfortunately you guys are the face that we see. This means that the player base is coming down on you guys, to fix the problems, which you have no real control over.

I just want to say THANK YOU GUYS, for your hard work. You have my support.

If any one feels the same, let the guys from Cryptic know. Please keep the posts about problems and calling out, OUT OF THIS THREAD. Its for the support of BranFlakes, Tumorboy, and the rest of the guys.

Remember if you don't have nothing nice to say, don't say it. (There are plenty of other threads for that!:biggrin:)

I have plenty of support for cryptic, and know this was forced on them. I'm not happy with the change at all, and I think my sig reflects that.

I support this topic. Kudo's to Cryptic.

Really guys, its way easy for us to say/post/complain, when its the Devs' that spend there time looking at Code so we can have fun. then spend hours blowing stuff up. Thank you too all the Devs' game testers and even each of us in the STO community who have Constructive things to say and play in the times we live.
Wish I could think of something wise and cool, and all That!

The Cryptic devs certainly have my sympathy, and I'm certainly not mad with them at all (Bran included of course).

They want to make a good game worthy of the name Star Trek, but I'm sure the integration with PWE is a distraction they could do without at the moment.

Bran is a sto guy, and has been since he was Balferzr (or however you spell it), just because he took of Wishy's job and was hired by PWE doesn't change the fact that he has been with STO since launch.

    /signed.

I don't agree with many of the recent changes, but I know that Cryptic wasn't really responsible for that. And I admire them for putting so much time into the game.

    Thanks, guys.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

It may indeed have been mandated by PWE - BUT - on the Cryptic side of things they could have handled the notification regarding the COMPLETE FORUM CHANGE - an what one would need to use the STO forum after date X rather than just posting the usual "We're taking down the STO Forums for maintenance from 9:00 - 13:00 PDT" (which BTW went over to the tune of 10+ hours - and then we come back to find you can't log in to post or even read the forums with a Cryptic only account .

Also, it's clear they didn't even fully test the new linking script as if you get an error on first submitting and supplied an e-mail address; somehow the address is 'linked' to a PWE account - and you can't use it again for the STO link ;procedure - BUT if you go to the PWE main site and try to 'recover username' - you get a red box stating "this e-mail address is not linked to a PWE account" - and if you have a second e-mail address and then submit that , and are successfully linked - if you go to account management and try to change it back to the first e-mail address (IE the one you had on your original Cryptic account) - you STILL get the "this e-mail address is already linked to a PWE account" - again, even though the PWE username recovery tool says it's not.
    ^^^
What does this mean? Whomever created the linking script probably has code that sets a linked flag to an e-mail address EVEN IF the transaction doesn't fully complete <--- and this wasn't found out due to LACK OF PROPER QA TEST PROCEDURES

And sorry, since Brandon loves to tout the web expertise his team has (although we have ample evidence to the contrary) - and also (whenever an issue comes up) - likes to tout that Cryptic is still an independent entity (yeah right - again, the evidence of the changed to the Forums and the fact that Brandon first thought himself that we could change display names) - and the fact that the info he gives is more often incorrect then not - I can't support a group who seems unable to properly do the job they were hired for.

This update didn't happen on a whim - they knew it was coming (and knew the ramifications) - but said NOTHING to the existing forum base beforehand

This kind of treatment to the folks who have stuck with and supported this game from day one I cannot support - and IMO - the whole Web team (and Brandon and Community Manger) dropped the ball - BIG TIME.

At this point, I doubt I'll believe anything Brandon has to post as he's either out of the loop, (meaning neither Cryptic or PWE care about building a supportive playerbase) or really doesn't have what it takes to properly do the job.

I won't support what I see as a high level of neglect and/or incompotence.

The handling of this switch was the first case of "uuuuhhg" I have had since the PWE acquisition.

Although I knew the Account Merger was coming, the forums change had little warning to most of the community and doesn't look like it was tested (or occurred) anywhere else, such as Champs.

There didn't seem to be any testing done to compare this new setup with the old one, despite Neverwinter running on this system. (I don't know how long it's been up though). There was a real lack of communication that I think could have been applicable here and that has me saddened.

Still, this is the one strike that has made me feel sorry for the situation. I know it will get better. You guys don't stop.

For what it's worth Cryptic has my support, and hopefully you can influence a few changes on the way this is set up to your Higher-ups.

Oh, indeed I support the good old devs (and Bran, hoping he was prohibited to inform us of the forum change), I just don't support the politics being played above their heads.

Resist devs (and Bran), we're with you!
