I doubt many people will see this due to the "forum horror" but I thought I would comment on the new Freighter details they just decided to release since at least for today I want to get my mind off this terrible new forum update, hopefully they will fix things soon.
But on to the Freighter; I actually like the idea but not so much of how it is implemented. I mean the only use I see for it now would be as a novelty item. I mean the fact that you have to go to the interior to use it functionality seems a bit too tedious. I say this not because im lazy (which I am) but because it would probably only take you about an extra minute or two, to go to a space station and use the bank, exchange, etc over their. Space is too small right now for this to be all that useful.
Now if you could use all this from sector space, THAT would be very useful. If it was possible to somehow make a player controlled version of the Azura II, that would be a very cool ship to have. Players could just come up to you in sector space and use your conveniences. What would make it even better is if you can decide who can come up to you and who cant. Maybe allow only fleet members. Or you could decide to be a trader and only allow one person at a time to come up to you but they have to pay.
As it is now, I dont see this ship doing much other that looking funny in missions and PvP. So, comments, suggestions of your own?

Very true.
I would also love it if the freighter tripped your Inventory space. The size of Inventory space should be based on the type of ship, and fixed to your ship.
I like the idea of being a 'trader' in which people could pay you if they're desperate to use the bank/exchange, but as you said, the space is far to small and this would have no real purpose because people would just fly to anywhere within <5min. If Star Trek could grow to the size of Eve then I can see this work. Or another idea is instead of hailing Azura every 2hr, you could have a set boff who stays on the ship and could come to your aid whenever.
Its accessible from the Small Ship Selection Screen, has 2 fore 2 aft weapons, 1 ensign and 1 lt universals. 3 Engineer consoles. If its classified as a small craft. It Could be a very nice Vault Event Runner. Little more DPS then the Delta Flyer and you can tank it tighter.

I doubt it is a small ship. It's stats seem to say it like a Tos Connie or Oberth. Plus a doff/crafting ship added on
I know I want one

The dev blog stated you switch to it the same way you switch to a shuttle or fighter, so unless they're introducing a 3rd type of ship that's neither small craft or regular vessel, then I'd say it would count as a small craft.
Of course, it's possible they could ban that specific ship from the Vault 5 man to stop people from using it.
As for it's usefulness, I definitely am very interested. Often there are times I won't want to go to the nearest starbase, and though it's a bit inconvenient to switch to it, it would still be less inconvenient than me going to a base.
And if I'm doffing or something, I'll just stay in the ship until there's reason to switch back again.
I actually like this idea of a merchant vessel. I believe about a week ago, or so, a post about wanting a merchant vessel popped up, and I even opened a separate topic for the possibility of a merchant class.
Although they should open up crafting to non-weapon or ship equipment, without the use of dilithium, that is another time, and a different post. In the mean time, I'm tickled pink to possibly use one of these, as I am a big fan of the DOff system, across my many characters.
The freighter is a nice idea, and in theory merchant vessels could be a lot of fun. The novelty of flying the Azura will probably last for a few hours.
Unfortunately, STO really has no "economy" as such (sales on the Exchange are instantaneous, listings are free and there's no penalty for relisting anything). Getting to DOff missions isn't that hard, although I might be in the minority in thinking so. It'll be more of an amusing diversion than a useful ship.
